United States

  • Food Safety Recall: BI-LO alerts its customers to a recall of Daniella Brand Mangoes (1 ct; UPC 0-00000-04051; Item code 600537; All lots).The recalled product may be linked to an outbreak of Salmonella Braenderup infections in the USA and Canada.
  • Food Withdrawal: Spartan Stores alerts its customers to a withdrawal by The FRS Company of specific FRS® Healthy Energy® can flavors produced in June 2012 due to an off taste affecting some cans with a Best before date of June XX, 2013.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Octopus Gardens Inc. (Brooklyn, NY) that a November 2011 inspection of the company’s seafood processing and importer establishment found a serious violation of the seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulation.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Aladin Sweets & Market, Inc. (Los Angeles, CA) that a June 2012 inspection of the company’s seafood importer establishment found serious violations of the seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulation.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall/Outbreak Alert: Mex Y Can Trading Inc. (Mississauga, ON) recalls Daniella brand Mangos (Product of Mexico; sold as part of multi-pack or as individual fruit; Sticker bearing PLU #4959 or PLU #4051), because they may be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup. The recalled fruit was sold at various retail stores across Canada from July 12th up to and including August 28th, 2012. The Public Health Agency of Canada has reported 22 cases of Salmonella Braenderup infections associated with consumption of Mexican mangos as of August 22nd.

Europe

Australia and New Zealand

  • Dietary Supplement Safety Alert (Australia): The Therapeutic Goods Administration advises the public not to consume Extra Power powder sachets, because the product contains the undeclared prescription substance aminotadalafil. The commercial supply of Extra Power powder sachet is illegal in Australia.
  • Dietary Supplement Safety Alert (Australia): The Therapeutic Goods Administration advises the public not to consume Rock Hard for Men tablets, because the product contains the undeclared prescription substances tadalafil and glibenclamide. The commercial supply of Rock Hard for Men tablets is illegal in Australia.
  • Dietary Supplement Safety Alert (Australia): The Therapeutic Goods Administration advises the public not to consume Ultra Men for Men tablets, because the product contains the undeclared prescription substances tadalafil and glibenclamide. The commercial supply of Ultra Men for Men tablets is illegal in Australia.

United States

  • Allergy Alert: Cucina Fresca Gourmet Foods recalls Cucina Fresca Smoked Tomato Sauce (24-oz glass jars; Lot 11002A or 11002B; UPC 8-84337-00522-4), due to the presence of undeclared milk. The recall product was sold at Pacific Northwest Whole Foods and Quality Food Center locations in Oregon and Washington states from the end of June 2012 on.
  • Food Safety Recall: Fresh Express Incorporated (Salinas, CA) recalls Hearts of Romaine Salad (10-oz; Product code beginning with G222; Use by date August 23, 2012), due to a possible health risk from Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled product, which is now expired, was distributed predominantly in eastern and southeastern states, including in stores belonging to Food City, and Publix.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall: Samantha Lynn Inc. recalls Reumofan Plus Tablets (30 tablets/bottle; lots may include the numbers 99515 ex096 and expires: 2016), after the undeclared drugs methocarbamol and diclofenac were found in the product. The recalled tablets were sold between Feb 2012 and June 2012.
  • Food Safety Recall/Outbreak Alert: The California Department of Public Health is leading an investigation into approximately 90 confirmed cases of Salmonella Braenderup in the USA. The outbreak strain is identical to the strain responsible for 22 cases of salmonellosis in Canada. California has confirmed 73 cases in that state; an additional 6 cases are reported by Washington state. Two-thirds of the California cases reported having consumed mangoes. Splendid Products LLC and Charlie’s Produce have voluntarily recalled/withdrawn Daniella mangoes (PLU 4959), which were implicated in the Canadian outbreak.

Canada

  • Allergy Alert: Cappadocia Import Export Turkish Bazaar Ltd. recalls Cappadocia Import Export Ltd. Whole Pitted Sundried Malatya Apricots (350g; Expiry May 30, 2013), due to the presence of undeclared sulphites. The recalled product was sold in Alberta.
  • Allergy Alert: Dong Phuong Oriental Market Ltd. recalls QK brand Jackfruit Freeze Dried, Sapota Freeze Dried, Durian Freeze Dried, Jackfruit Chips, Mixed Fruit Chips, and Mixed Fruits Freeze Dried (Exp. 28/13/2013), due to the presence of undeclared sulphites. The recalled products were sold in Alberta and Manitoba.
  • Food Safety Recall: Fresh Start Foods recalls GFS Sliced Mangoes (6 lb; no codes), due to Salmonella contamination. The recalled fruit was distributed to hotels, restaurants and institutions in Albert and Manitoba.

  • Allergy Alert: True Nutrition recalls Whey Protein Concentrate (1 lb; Batch/lot 0120712; Exp 05/2015), Whey Protein Isolate Cold-Filtration (1 lb; Batch/lot 0030812; Exp. 07/2015), Whey Protein Isolate MicroFiltrated (1 lb; Batch/lot 0040812, Exp. 07/2015), Whey Protein Isolate Cross-Flow Microfiltration (1 lb; Batch/lot 0730712; Exp 07/2015), and Hydrolyzed Whey Protein High Grade (1 lb; Batch/lot 0680512; Exp. 05/2015), because the labels fail to declare milk as the source of the whey. The recalled products were distributed through the website www.trunutrition.com.
  • Pet Food Safety Withdrawal: Bil-Jac withdraws Adult Select Formula Dog Food (6 lb bags; Batch #1792-02; Exp. 27 DEC 13), after receiving a few reports of mold in bags from this batch, caused by higher moisture content in the food. Bil-Jac has requested retailers to removed this batch from warehouses and stores.
  • Food Safety Alert: Rudolph Foods, a Dallas pork rinds producer has stopped production for one week after finding Salmonella on the floor in a “pre-cook” area of the production facility. None of the four positive Salmonella samples were from product contact surfaces or from finished products.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall/Outbreak Alert: North American Produce Sales (Vancouver, BC) updates its earlier Health Hazard Alert to include additional product brand information. The company has recalled Daniella brand Mangoes (Product of Mexico; sold as individual fruit with sticker bearing PLU #4959), because the mangoes have been linked to an outbreak of Salmonella Braenderup infections. The recalled mangoes were sold at various (as yet unnamed) retail stores between July 12 and August 14, 2012 and were distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon. As of August 22, 2012 the Public Health Agency of Canada has confirmed cases of Salmonella Braenderup in British Columbia (17 cases) and Alberta (22 cases).
  • Food Safety Recall: Odra Deli and Wholesale Meat Ltd. (Mississauga, ON) recalls Krakowska Sausage (variable weight pkgs of sliced sausage), because the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled meat was sold from the deli counter at Odra Deli and Wholesale Meat Ltd. in Mississauga, ON during August 9th to 20th, inclusive.
