Outbreak/Illness Investigations

MULTIPLE EU COUNTRIES + UK: EFSA & ECDC report an 11-country outbreak of Salmonella Bovismorbificans ST377 linked to alfalfa sprouted seeds. Outbreak infections (109 in total) have been reported by Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Spain, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Traceability investigations in Italy identified a common seed supplier in India.

NORWAY: The Norwegian Institute of Public Health is investigating an outbreak of 15 cases of Yersinia enterocolitica infections (9 confirmed and 6 suspected). The source of the outbreak has not yet been determined.

USA (Louisiana): The Louisiana Department of Health is investigating 11 cases of illness linked to consumption of raw milk from three different milking operations in the state. Outbreak victims have tested positive for campylobacteriosis and/or cryptosporidiosis. Two people have been hospitalized.

FRANCE: An educational farm in Auriol (Bouches-du-Rhône) has been linked to an outbreak of shigellosis. Most of the cases are in children.

VIETNAM: Health authorities report a major outbreak of Salmonella linked to sandwiches from a sandwich chain in southern Vietnam. This is the third food poisoning outbreak traced to the Hong Ngoc chain. The Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City found Salmonella in 25 of 36 samples taken from patients. Nearly 300 people have been hospitalized.
