Outbreak/Illness Investigations
CANADA (Manitoba): The Manitoba Health Service reports 601 cases of hepatitis A have been confirmed across Manitoba since an outbreak was declared in April 2025, with 131 of those cases reported in Winnipeg. Three people have died, 5 were admitted to ICU and were hospitalized.
DENMARK: The Statens Serum Institut reports 11 cases of Salmonella Enteritidis since April 2026 in an outbreak that has been linked to a common school meal scheme serving several schools in the national capital region. Eight of the eleven victims are children. Median age of outbreak patients is 10 years. The source of the outbreak is under investigation.
INTERNATIONAL: ECDC is tracking a multi-country outbreak of Salmonella Stanley (ST2045) illnesses that has infected 62 people since January 2026. Outbreak cases have been reported by Austria, Czechia, Estonia, France, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States. No source has yet been identified, but ECDC says that a common source is likely.
INTERNATIONAL (Cruise): Forty-nine passengers on the Ambassador Cruise Line’s Ambition were infected with Norovirus during a cruise that departed Belfast, Northern Ireland on May 8th. The ship was quarantined at port in Bordeaux, France until the French health authorities could confirm the cause of the gastrointestinal illnesses.
USA: FDA reports that a 70-case outbreak of Salmonella Newport infections linked to cantaloupes imported from Guatamala is over. No additional details as to the geographical or demographic distribution of the illnesses was given.

Allergy Alert: Fly By Jing recalls Fly By Jing Creamy Sesame Noodles (single pack and 4-pack; Best before 10/15/2026, 12/6/2026, and 3/23/2027) due to undeclared peanut.
Food Safety Recall: Pure Ground Ingredients, Inc. recalls Pure Ground Ingredients-Organic Peppermint Leaf Powder (Wholesale, bulk; Lot PEPO-5234171TZM-PW-858Q; Best if used by January 2028) due to Salmonella contamination.
FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Minh Phung, Inc. that an October 2 through October 17, 2025 inspection of the company’s ready-to-eat (RTE) rice noodles and not RTE rice cakes manufacturing facility found serious violations of the Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Human Food rule.
Pet Food Safety Recall: Allprovide Holistic Pet Food recalls Gently Cooked Chicken Recipe for Dogs (1 lb; Lots 048-01, 048-2, 048-3, 048-4, 048-5, 048-6, 048-7, 048-8, 048-9, 048-10, 048-11, 048-12, 048-13, 048-14; Best By / Use By Date: 01-Aug-2027) due to foreign matter contamination (pieces of plastic).

Allergy Alert / Food Safety Recall: Charcuterie La Bastille (Alma, QC) recalls various raw milk cheeses due to absence of labeling that they were made from unpasteurized milk, and recalls various meat products due to undeclared soy.
Food Safety Recall: Osiris Inc. recalls FreezYums! brand Freeze Dried Candy – Sour Key Gummy (63g; Batch/Date code 2026 NO 01 052025LOT1; UPC 8 02962 38817 8) due to foreign matter contamination (pieces of metal).
