Pet Food Safety Recall: Nestlé Purina PetCare Company recalls Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EL Elemental (PPVD EL) prescription dry dog food (8 lb and 20 lb bags; Lots 2213 1082 & 2214 1082, respectively; UPC 38100 19190 & 38100 19192, respectively) due to potentially elevated levels of vitamin D. The recalled products were distributed throughout the United States by prescription only through veterinary clinics, Purina Vet Direct, Purina for Professionals, and other select retailers with the ability to validate a prescription.

Pet Dietary Supplement Recall: Stratford Care USA, Inc recalls multiple brands of Omega-3 Supplements for cats and dogs (60 soft gels per bottle; Lot 31133 & 30837; Expiry  04/13/23 & 10/26/22, respectively) due to potentially elevated levels of Vitamin A. OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (Sweden): Sweden’s Public Health Agency has received reports of 79 confirmed cases of Salmonella Enteritidis infections linked to consumption of eggs. The outbreak strain was found in the production environment of an egg producer at the turn of the year.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Update): FDA has recovered from a sample of Utopia brand Enoki Mushrooms a strain of Listeria monocytogenes that is a genetic match for the strain of Listeria monocytogenes that was recovered from patients in an outbreak first reported last fall by the CDC. The outbreak has affected three individuals, one each in California, Nevada and Michigan. All three outbreak victims have been hospitalized.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Sweden): The Swedish Agency for Agriculture, the Swedish Food Agency, SVA, the Public Health Agency, regional infection control and other regional and local authorities are investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis infections that has sickened 22 people from eleven different regions across Sweden. The outbreak is thought to be linked to Salmonella-contaminated eggs from a single Swedish producer. Multiple brands and production batches of fresh shell eggs supplied by this producer have been recalled since late December 2022.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA is investigating a new food-related outbreak of 264 confirmed Salmonella Typhimurium infections. No specific food source has yet been identified.
