United States

  • Pet Food Safety Recall: Cargill Animal Nutrition  recalls Nutrena NatureWise® Goat Pellet 16 (50 lb bags; Lot codes 1MG1365, 3MG2049 and 1MG2056) because the feed contains undeclared Decoquinate, a medicated article for the prevention of coccidiosssis, that not approved for lactating goats.
  • Food Safety Withdrawal: Gerber Products Company withdraws Gerber® Good Start® Gentle Powdered Infant Formula (23.2 oz plastic pkg; Batch GXP1684; Expiry March 5, 2013), because the product might have an off-odor noticeable to some consumers. Some cases of spit-up and other gastrointestinal complaints have been reported.
  • Outbreak Alert (California): Los Arboles Middle School in Marina, CA sent home 110 students who were suffering from gastrointestinal illness. The students were suffering from flushed cheeks, light-headedness, stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting.

Canada

  • Allergy Alert: Whole Foods Market Inc. recalls Spinach Mushroom Quiche (approx 280g; UPC 0275184 316999; Sold March 1 to 5, 2012), because the package actually contains Spinach Pine Nut Quiche. The recalled product was sold only from the Whole Foods Market Cambie Store, 510 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, BC.

Europe

  • Allergy Alert (Finland): FK Trube Oy recalls Blueberry-Raspberry Filled Bun (225g pkg; Best before 10/03/2012), because some of the packages contain Apple Filled Buns instead.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): SuperGros A/S recalls First Price Peanuts (250g; All date codes) and Best/SuperBest Peanuts (250g; All date codes), because a foreign object that resembles a piece of jaw from a small animal was found in a bag of the peanuts.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (France): Bristol-Myers Squibb recalls Coumadine, 5mg scored tablets (Lot 1K04; Expiry October 2013), because of a defect in the seal of certain blister packs.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (Hong Kong): Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service recalls all Albumex 5 Infusion 12.5g/250ml and Albumex 20 Infusion 10g/50ml, after receiving notification from the Australian manufacturer that some of the products were found contaminated with ethylene glycol.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (Singapore): The Health Sciences Authority recalls all supplies of Albumex 20® (20% albumin) manufactured by the Australian bio-pharmaceutical company CSL Biotherapies (CSL) from public hospitals as a precautionary measure following detection by HSA’s laboratories of trace amounts of ethylene glycol in samples of the product.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Food Safety Recall (Australia): Almarae Dairy Products recalls Almarae Dairy Products Country Cheese, soft cheese in brine (Glass jar with white lid; Date code 20 May 2012), due to contamination with Listeria and E. coli. The recalled cheese was sold at the Almarae Dairy Products retail store and a convenience store in Punchbowl, NSW.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (Australia): CSL Limited recalls all batches manufactured prior to 25 January 2012 of: Albumex 4 (500mL), Albumex 4 (50mL), Albumex 20 (100mL) and Albumex 20 (10mL), because the products may be contaminated with very low levels of ethylene glycol as a consequence of equipment failure.

Latin America and the Caribbean

  • Consumer Product Safety Recall (Mexico): Distribuidora Jugarás, S.A. de C.V. recalls Súper Luchamanía plastic dolls (Manufactured in Mexico), due to elevated levels of lead in the paint.

United States

  • Dietary Supplement Safety Recall: Healthy People Co. recalls all lot numbers of the following products, due to the presence of the prescription drugs Sibutramine and Tadalafil: Mince Belle (30 capsules; UPC 7503013203305), Everlax (30 capsules; UPC 7503013203046), Ever Slim (30 capsules; UPC 7503013203053), Ever Slim Shake Mix – Strawberry (17.6 oz; UPC 7503013203084), Ever Slim Shake Mix – Chocolate (17.6 oz; UPC 7503013203077), Acai-Man Mangosteen Herbal Drink (16.6 oz; UPC 7503013203015), and Perfect Men (10 capsules; UPC7503013203190).
  • FDA Enforcement Action: A federal court has granted FDA a permanent injunction preventing Daniel L. Allgyer and his Rainbow Acres Farm from distributing raw milk and raw milk products in final package form for human consumption across state lines. The FDA sought the injunction against Allgyer after documenting multiple and repeated violations of federal law. The agency issued a warning letter to Allgyer in April 2010, informing him of these violations and requesting that he take corrective measures to avoid regulatory action. Despite such warning, Allgyer continued to operate in violation of federal law.

Canada

  • Allergy Alert: IGA – Marchés Pépin inc (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, QC) recalls several ready-to-eat products due to the presence of undeclared soy, sesame, milk and/or wheat. Please refer to the recall notice for a list of affected products.
  • Food Safety Recall: Fromagerie du Pied-de-Vent Inc. recalls Fromagerie du Pied-de-Vent Fromage au Lait Cru à Pâte Molle Affiné en Surface (1kg; Date Code 10 12 2011), due to contamination with Staphylococcus aureus. The recalled cheese was distributed in Quebec.
  • Food Safety Recall: Charcuterie La Tour Eiffel (Blainville, QC) recalls Tour Eiffel brand Parisian Cooked Ham, because the product may be contaminated with dangerous bacteria or parasites. The recalled product was sold from deli counters at certain Sobeys stores (including IGA and IGA extra) and Metro stores (including Metro and Marché Richelieu) as well as certain independent grocers and delicatessens in Quebec between February 10 and 21, 2012.

Europe

  • Allergy Alert (UK): Waitrose recalls Waitrose Gammon in Parsley Sauce (400g; Use by 23 February 2012), because the product may contain haddock instead of gammon.
  • Food Safety Recall (Switzerland): Migros recalls Tail-on Cooked Shrimp (500g; Raised in Indonesia; Sell by dates 19.02.2012 – 23.02.2012 inclusive; Consume by dates of 20.02.2012 – 24.02.2012, inclusive), after internal quality control tests reveals the presence of pathogenic Listeria.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (Spain): B. Braun Medical, S.A. recalls a number of Nutriflex products for infusion, due to the detection of particles in the products. Please refer to the recall notice for additional details.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.0267): Absence of health mark on fresh eggs from Poland; distributed to Bulgaria.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.0268): Mercury in frozen fish from Madagascar; distributed to France.
  • Dietary Supplement Safety Notification (EU #2012.0269): Incorrect labeling on ampoules of Vitamin C from Spain; distributed to Bulgaria.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.0270): Mercury in frozen fillets of swordfish with skin from Vietnam, via the Netherlands; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.0271): Excessive benzoic acid, undeclared caffeine in, and insufficient labeling of, energy drink from Japan; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.0272): Unauthorized morpholine in plums from the United States; distributed to Austria and the Czech Republic.
  • Animal Feed Safety Notification (EU #2012.0273): Arsenic in sea algae meal from France; distributed to Austria.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • OTC Medical Device Safety Recall (Hong Kong): Coloplast (Hong Kong) Limited recalls Biatain Ibu dressing (Product of Denmark), as the product contains Ibuprofen, and has not been registered as a pharmaceutical product. The recall was initiated at the instruction of the Hong Kong Department of Health.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Allergy Alert (Australia): Oriental Merchant Pty Ltd recalls Koh-Kae Peanuts Coconut Cream Flavour Coated (125g and 265g orange tin cans; All Best before dates; Product of Thailand), due to the presence of undeclared milk and egg. The recalled products were sold nationally at Woolworths, Coles and IGA supermarkets, Asian grocery stores and other independent outlets.

United States

  • Food Safety Enforcement Action: The Utah Division of Regulatory Services cites Mr. Fidel Gomez (West Valley City, UT) and fines him $500 for violations of the Utah Dairy Act, including illegally manufacturing and distributing cheese without a permit and not labeling the cheese. Mr. Gomez supplied a Salt Lake valley restaurant with queso fresco cheese that was linked to 42 lab-confirmed cases of Salmonella Newport gastroenteritis.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall: Smiley sauce spaghetti à la viande (Farnham, QC) recalls Star Originale, Smiley brand Sauce Spaghetti à la Viande / Spaghetti Meat Sauce (750ml, 1.4L and 2.1L glass jars; sold before December 2, 2011), because the product was held and stored without refrigeration and represents a health hazard.

Europe

  • Food Safety Recall (Belgium): Culina Foods sprl recalls Sla Mustard Dill Dressing (250ml bottles; Best before 17/02/12, 02/04/12, 09/04/12, 12/05/12, 21/05/12, and 12/06/12; Lot #1106171, 1106172, 1108021, 1108022, 1108091, 1108092, 1109131, 1109132, 1109211, and 1110121), due to possible fermentation in the bottles as a result of a production error.
  • Food Safety Recall (France): A l’Olivier recalls various flavors of vinaigrette (250ml bottles), because of possible contamination with particles of glass. Please refer to the recall notice for a list of flavors, lot numbers and Best Before dates.
  • Food Safety Recall (Germany): Tirol Milch Wörgl recalls Andreas Hofer Anniversary Cheese (200g; Best before 02/09/2012), Austrian Alps Mark Mountain Cheese (300g; Best before 28/02/2012, 03/05/2012, and 03/06/2012) and Mountain Cheese (430g; Best before 27/02/2012, 03/03/2012, 04/03/2012, 03/10/2012 and 11/03/2012), because the cheese rind may be contaminated with Listeria.
  • Dietary Supplement Safety Alert (Germany): Consumers should avoid using Slimming Coffee Leisure 18 Coffee for weight reduction (18 x 10g packets; Product of China; Batch # 20110801, 20110901, 20110924, 20110301, and 20110914), because the product contains the undeclared prescription medication sibutramine, which can cause serious side effects in certain individuals.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Food Safety Recall (Hong Kong): Trappist Dairy Limited recalls Trappist Dairy Hi-Calcium Low Fat Milk Drink (236ml; Use by 4.12.2011) and Trappist Dairy Fresh Milk (236 ml and 946 ml; Use by 6.12.2011), because the milk may be contaminated with toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes. Two illnesses have been reported.
  • Food Safety Alert (Saudi Arabia): The Saudi Food & Drug Authority (SFDA) warns the public that tests of Radwa Drops potable drinking water found that several samples contained in excess of the permitted limit of Bromate. Consumers should not drink this water. SFDA has taken steps to suspend production, and is urging Radwa Drops Potable Water Factory (Yanbu Al Bahr province) to recall its product from the local market.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Food Safety Recall (New Zealand): Goodman Fielder New Zealand Ltd. recalls Sizzler Triple Cheese (precooked) Sausages (400g; Use by 8/12/2011 and 912/2011), because some of the sausages may contain blue plastic pieces.  The recalled product is sold in all supermarkets throughout New Zealand.
  • Medical Device Safety Recall (Australia): Coloplast Pty Ltd. recalls Trident Catheter Valve (Item #380851; Batch #2565208, 2646228, 2662994, 2696297, 2701396, 2708828, 2724652, 2730835, 2793517, 2800400, 2812339, 2819240, 2825445, 2887949, and 2918547), because the batches failed sterility tests conducted by the manufacturer.
