Outbreak/Illness Investigations

USA (Update): CDC has closed its investigation into an outbreak of Salmonella Javiana infections linked to consumption of jalapeño peppers imported from Mexico. As of October 2, 2026, the outbreak comprised 488 confirmed cases, including 65 people hospitalized. Cases were reported in 34 states. Although traceback investigations led the FDA to a single grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, the agency closed its investigation without being able to determine a route or source of contamination for this outbreak.

Allergy Alert: Flowers Foods, Inc. recalls Nature’s Own® Hawaiian Bread (20 oz and 40 oz bags; Multiple lot codes; Best if used by OCT 08 2026 03 – OCT 18 2026 13) due to undeclared milk.

Food Safety Recall: Inexport Logistics LLC recalls YUPI GOLPE CON TODO SABOR BBQ mixed chips with “Clásicas,” “PLATANOS,” and “Chicharrón Fred” pork cracklings (60g foil bags) because they were produced in the Republic of Colombia, a country that is not eligible to export meat products to the United States.

Food Safety Recall: EAK Distribution LLC recalls HOME GROWN Green Sprouting Calabrese Broccoli Seeds, Heirloom (8 oz; Production lot code AUG172026; UPC 850056627443) due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Stewart’s Shops Corp. recalls Heavenly Medley Ice Cream (half-gallon; Best by Feb.10.27) and Vanilla-Chocolate-Strawberry Ice Cream (half-gallon; Best by Feb.11.27) due to possible foreign matter contamination (metal).

Food Safety Recall: TODD’S SEEDS LLC recalls Multiple varieties of sprouting seeds (Multiple package sizes; Multiple lot codes; Use by 12/31/2029) because the products contain alfalfa seed recalled by the supplier and may be contaminated with shiga toxin-producing E. coli and/or Salmonella.

Food Safety Recall: WinCo Foods recalls WinCo Foods Salsa Bean Dip Tray Express (54 oz; Best if used by Aug. 14, 2026 through Sept. 25, 2026; UPC 2-67173-#####) and WinCo Foods Salsa Bean Dip Tray, 16 Inch Catering Tray(by special order only) (104 oz; Best if used by Aug 14, 2026 through Sept 25, 2026; UPC 2-67240-#####) due to the inclusion of recalled peperoncini from G.L. Mezzetta.

Food Safety Recall Update: Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. recalls additional lots of Great Value frozen Organic Triple Berry Blend (10 oz), Great Value frozen Organic Blueberries (10 oz), and one lot of Trader Joe’s frozen Organic Mixed Berry Blend (12 oz) due to possible Escherichia coli O145:H28 contamination.

Canada

Food Safety Alert: MAPAQ and the City of Montreal warn the public not to consume certain BOULANGERIE ANGE brand pastries due to possible Norovirus contamination. The pastries were made using Alasko brand frozen raspberries that were recalled recently across Canada due to Norovirus contamination. An unspecified number of Norovirus illnesses have been associated with consumption of the frozen raspberries.

Food Safety Recall: Fromagerie des Grondines (Deschambault-Grondines, QC) recalls NOUVEAU BREBIS / New sheep’s milk cheese (Variable size; All lots) because the label does not indicate that the cheese was made using raw (unpasteurized) milk.
