Outbreak/Illness Investigations

CANADA Update: The Public Health Agency of Canada has closed its investigation into an outbreak of Salmonella linked to pistachios and products containing pistachios. The outbreak, which involved 200 confirmed illnesses in six provinces, was linked to pistachios imported from Iran. Twenty-six people were hospitalized. There were no deaths. The CFIA’s temporary import restriction on pistachios from Iran remains in effect.

USA Update: The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is reporting 7,664 total Cyclospora cases in the state with 160 hospitalizations as of July 23, 2026.

Food Safety Recall: Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. recalls 1,589,577 dozen white shell eggs and brown cage free shell eggs produced in Texas (Multiple pack sizes, varieties and brand names; sell by or best by dates between July 20, 2026 and August 17, 2026) due to possible Salmonella Enteritidis contamination.
