United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: CDC reports that contact with backyard poultry resulted in 1,135 reported Salmonella infections, 273 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths since the beginning of 2021. Cases were reported in 48 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. CDC reminds the public that you can get sick from touching your backyard poultry or anything in their environment and then touching your mouth or food and swallowing Salmonella germs. Children should always be supervised around backyard poultry.

Allergy Alert: Spice N’ More Corp. recalls all sizes and date codes of Salma and Casablanca Curry Powders due to undeclared peanuts. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Allergy Alert: Cargill recalls Wilbur Dark Chocolate Triple Covered Malted Milk Balls (1-lb bags; Lot #s 211007MB and 210917MB; UPC 200171-16) due to undeclared peanuts.

Food Safety Recall: Conagra Brands, Inc. recalls Birds Eye Broccoli Tots (12 oz / 340g; Lot codes 4715105620, 4715104220, 4715113720 & 4715113020; Best by AUG-19-2022 and AUG-25-2022, AUG-11-2022 and AUG-12-2022, NOV-17-2022 & NOV-10-2022, respectively) due to potential foreign matter (small rocks and metal fragments) contamination.

Canada

Allergy Alert and Food Safety Recall: Confidences et Chocolats (Sainte-Thérèse, QC) recalls multiple products due to absence of mandatory storage temperature instructions on the product labels and presence of undeclared eggs, milk and sulphites. Food Safety Recall: Traiteur Flash Express (Mirabel, QC) recalls SAUCE SPAGHETTI À LA VIANDE – POT MASSON / Spaghetti meat sauce in Mason jars (500 ml & 1 L; Best before JA-28-22) because the product may be unsafe to consume, due to improper production/packaging condtions.

Food Safety Recall: Tootsi Impex Inc. recalls Elan brand Organic sesame whole seeds (250g; Lots 21047 & 21030; Best before 2022 AU 16 (L6) & 2022 JL 30 (L6), respectively) due to Salmonella contamination.

Europe

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (SWEDEN): The Swedish Public Health Agency reports that an outbreak of 52 cases of Salmonella Coeln infections across 14 regions of the country was likely linked to a contaminated batch of fresh sprouts delivered to grocery stores, wholesalers and commercial kitchens at the end of August. The outbreak is now over.

Allergy Alert (Denmark): Hanegal A/S recalls Irma’s Organic Bolognese Sauce (400g; Expiry 24.11.2021) due to undeclared mustard.

Allergy Alert (Germany): Sediq Großhandel recalls Gaz Persische Süßigkeit / Persian Candy (300g; Best before 10.05.2022) due to undeclared almonds and pistachios.

Allergy Alert (Netherlands): Aldi recalls Cranberry Pâté and Cream Pâté (150g; Expiration dates December 3, 2021, December 6, 2021 and December 10, 2021) due to undeclared nuts.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

Allergy Alert (Israel): Blanco AAS Ltd. recalls Ballerina Cakes – Strawberry Flavored Personalized Cakes (All expiration dates up to and including 17.3.2022) due to undeclared milk.

Australia and New Zealand

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (AUSTRALIA): Commonwealth, state and territory food regulators and health authorities are investigating an increase in cases of Vibrio parahaemolyticus linked to the consumption of raw Pacific oysters (Magallana gigas) produced in Coffin Bay, SA. Trace back activities have identified oyster production areas in Coffin Bay as the source of the oysters consumed by the cases. The outbreak includes 36 reported cases in South Australia, 17 cases in Western Australia and 8 cases in Victoria. The Coffin Bay oyster harvesting area has been closed, and consumers are advised not to eat raw Pacific oysters from Coffin Bay, including fresh and frozen products.

Food Safety Recall (Australia): SA Health has issued an emergency order to recall raw Pacific oysters (Magallana gigas) produced in Coffin Bay, SA, including fresh and frozen products (All production dates from and including 4 September 2021 up to and including 16 November 2021) due to Vibrio parahaemolyticus contamination.

Food Safety Recall (Australia): Aldi recalls Snackers Market Little Pickers Cubed Tasty Cheese and Mini Crackers (35g; All USE BY dates up to 03.02.22​) and Snackers Market Little Pickers Cubed Tasty Cheese and Pretzels (40g; All USE BY dates up to 03.02.22​) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
