OUTBREAK ALERT UPDATE: CDC reports 55 cases of Salmonella Stanley infections (6 hospitalizations) in 12 states linked to consumption of wood ear mushrooms distributed by Wismettac Asian Foods, Inc. CDC believes this outbreak is now over, and FDA has completed its investigation.
Food Safety Recall: Vitamin Cottage Natural Food Markets, Inc. recalls Natural Grocers Brand Organic Whole Elderberries (4 oz; Pack dates 20-216, 20-225, 20-246, 20-265 & 20-281) due to potential Salmonella contamination.
Pet Food Safety Recall: Grassland Beef recalls Dr. Siegel’s S. A. F. E. Petfood, Ground Beef 70% Lean / 30% Fat Net Wt.: 2 lb 18841 (Batch code 20157) due to E. coli O157:H7 contamination. The recalled product was shipped directly to consumers nationwide and one retail location in Florida.
FDA Warning Letter: FDA issues Warning Letter to Fresh Express Inc – Div of Chiquita Brands following investigation into a 2020 Cyclospora outbreak linked to the company’s bagged salad mixes. During its investigation, FDA recovered Cyclospora cayetanensis from two samples collected to the north and south of where the farm accessed canal water for seepage irrigation. FDA also experienced delays in receiving requested documents from Fresh Express that were needed to conduct the traceback investigation.
