Recalls and Alerts: February 19 – 22, 2017

United States

Allergy Alert: Fratelli Beretta USA, Inc. (Mount Olive, NJ) recalls Deli Thin Dietz & Watson Mortadella, sliced (3-oz. plastic pkgs; Lot# LO23633800; Best By Date April 2, 2017) due to undeclared pistachio nuts. The recalled product was distributed to retailers and distribution centers in Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

Allergy Alert: Bee International, Inc. (Chula Vista, CA) recalls Plastic Heart Tubes with Chocolate Lentils (1.7-oz clear plastic tube; Best before April 2019) due to undeclared milk.

Food Safety Recall: Cozy Vale Creamery (Tenino, WA) recalls retail raw fluid whole milk (quart, half-gallon and one-gallon plastic jugs; Best By dates of 2/27 through 3/4) after sampling conducted by the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) revealed the presence of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli in the product. The recalled raw milk was sold at the on-farm store, one drop-off location and several retail stores throughout Western Washington.

Food Safety Recall: MDS Foods Inc. (Massillon, OH) expands its current recall to include additional products, due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. Please refer to the recall notice for details.

Food Safety Recall: Ready Pac Foods Inc. recalls Ready Pac Foods Puro Picante Blazin Hot Chicken Salad (7.5 oz.; Use By Dates of 01/31/17 through 03/04/2017) because the cheese component of the salad may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Food Safety Consumer Advisory: The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is issuing a consumer advisory for products produced by Dukarani Food Processing, Inc. of Minneapolis, Minnesota, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum. An issue with two fish- and vegetable-based sauces was identified during a routine inspection. MDA cannot verify that the sauces were properly processed, making them a potential botulism risk. The inspection also identified a dry sesame seed and ground fish product (Benniseed) that was made through an unapproved process and with an unapproved ingredient source. Food Safety Consumer Advisory: The North Dakota Department of Health is issuing a consumer advisory for sauces produced by Dukarani Food Processing, Inc. of Minneapolis. These products have the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which can cause life-threatening illness or death. The advisory includes 8 oz. glass jars of Pepper Sauce, Ketele Sauce, and Benniseed Sauce produced and sold by Dukarani Food Processing. The products were produced and sold through Friday, Feb. 9, 2017, and may have been distributed in North Dakota.

Dietary Supplement Safety Recall: Organic Herbal Supply, Inc. recalls all lots of XtraHRD Natural Male Enhancement capsules after FDA analysis finds the product to contain Tadalafil, a FDA-approved drug.

OTC Product Recall: Bayer recalls A & D Zinc Diaper Rash cream (1.5 oz; All lot codes; UPC 41100-81128). The labeling claims the product to be ‘phthalate-free’, but trace amounts of phthalate were found in the recalled product. The cream was sold at Buehler’s Fresh Foods and may also have been distributed elsewhere.

Canada

Allergy Alert: Chocolate Moose Fudge Factory recalls Savory!! Popcorn – All Dressed, Savory!! Popcorn – Dill Pickle Chips, and Savory!! Popcorn – Salt & Vinegar due to undeclared milk. The product was distributed to retailers in Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Allergy Alert: Aliments Nacho Villa recalls Nacho Villa brand Tortilla Chips – Chipotle (280g; Code 14 04 17) due to undeclared sesame. The recalled product was sold by retailers in Quebec.

Allergy Alert: Wild Serendipity Foods recalls Wild Serendipity Foods scones and buttermilk scone dough mix due to undeclared milk, tree nuts and wheat. Please refer to the recall notice for a detailed list of products, which were sold by retailers in Saskatchewan.

Consumer Product Safety Recall: The Honest Company recalls all lots of Honest Organic Baby Powder (4 oz. white bottle; UPC 817810014529) due to possible contamination with several species of bacteria. The recalled product was manufactured in the USA and sold primarily online between May 2014 and December 2016, and at West Coast Kids in/around February 2015.

Europe

Allergy Alert (Ireland): The Happy Pear recalls The Happy Pear Lovely Basil Pesto (180g; various batch numbers and Use by dates), due to undeclared egg. Please refer to the recall notice for additional details.

Food Safety Recall (France): Société LE BRUN recalls LE BRUN Jus de Pomme Artisanal (1L bottles; Lot #01/2016; 02/2016; 03/2016; 04/2016; Expiry February 2018) due to  the presence of Bisphenol A. The recalled products were distributed through Intermarché.

Food Safety Recall (Germany): Karlsberg Brauerei recalls MiXery Nastrov Flavour Iced Lemon (six-pack; Batch # L 09 K6; Expiry date MHD 08.17) after a foreign body was found in a bottle of the recalled beverage.

Food Safety Recall (Ireland): Tesco recalls Tesco Cheeses of Ireland Wicklow Blue (120g pkg; Use by 23/02/2017 and 25/02/2017) due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

Food Safety Recall (Ireland): SuperValu recalls Wickow Blue Cheese (cut and packed in-store; Use by 21/02/2017, 22/02/2017, 23/02/2017) due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

Food Safety Recall (Hong Kong): Leo’s Fine Food Co Ltd recalls Leo’s Fine Food Roast Beef (Use by February 27, 2017) due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
