United States

  • Allergy Alert: Foster Farms (Demopolis, AL) recalls Foster Farms Honey Crunchy Corn Dogs (2.67-lb, 16-ct pkgs; Est P-7322; Use by July 2, 2013; Time stamp between 06:30 and 08:30), because of misbranding and the presence of undeclared milk. The recalled products were distributed to Kroger, Walmart and Food Lion stores in the Southeastern USA.
  • Food Safety Recall: Whole Foods Market recalls Bulk Sweets Mix containing Peanut Butter Power Chews (Bulk, PLU 9663), sold in the El Segundo, California store and Treasure Trove Mix (Bulk, PLU 6922), sold in several Florida stores, because the products contain peanut butter that may be contaminated with Salmonella.
  • Food Safety Recall: Fairytale Brownies recalls Peanut Butter Sprites, Peanut Butter Brownies, and Peanut Butter Cookies (manufactured on or after August 15, 2012), because the products contain peanut butter that may be contaminated with Salmonella.   • Food Safety Recall: Walmart alerts its customers to the recall of ground beef and ground beef products due to E. coli O157:H7 contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products sold in Walmart and Sam’s Club stores.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall: XL Foods Inc. (Est 38) expands its earlier recalls to include additional raw beef and beef products manufactured on August 24, 27, 28, 29 and September 5, 2012, due to potential contamination with E. coli O157:H7. Europe

  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Bønnelykken A/S recalls Simply Fresh brand Salad with Salmon (Packaged in the Netherlands; Best before 1/10, 2/10, 3/10 and 4/10-2012), because the smoked salmon is thought to be contaminated with Salmonella.
  • Food Safety Recall (France): Société Andouille ASSELOT recalls Andouille Asselot brand Andouilles de Vire (Lot #2612, 3012, 3112), after Salmonella was detected in the product. The recalled sausages were sold directly at the Asselot store in Vire (14500), in retail stores in the Normandie region or in Carrefour, Leclerc and Intermarché stores in Vire, either as packaged product or “by the slice.”
  • Outbreak Alert Update (Germany): The food borne disease outbreak in Germany has sickened at least 8,365 individuals, including mostly children, teenagers and support staff at 342 schools and child care facilities. Twenty-three people have been hospitalized. Cases are reported from Brandenburg (97 facilities; 2,415 illnesses; 14 hospitalized), Berlin (82 facilities; 2,213 illnesses; 3 hospitalized), Sachsen (118 facilities; 2,800 illnesses; 2 hospitalized), Sachsen-Anhalt (6 facilities; 50 illnesses; none hospitalized) and Thüringen (39 facilities, 887 illnesses; 4 hospitalized). The identity of the pathogen has not yet been determined. Nearly all of the affected facilities in Brandenburg, Berlin and Thüringen were supplied with food from a common source.

  • Allergy Alert: Maine Natural Health recalls Whey Protein Concentrates sold under various brands and names, because the products contain undeclared milk, shellfish and/or coconut. Please refer to the recall notice for details.
  • Food Safety Recall: Earth Balance, division of GFA Brands, Inc. (Niwot, CO) recalls Earth Balance Almond Butter (16 oz. jar; Best By dates between May 2013 and September 2013; UPC 3377610090), manufactured by Sunland, Inc., because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella.
  • Medical Device Safety Recall: Stryker recalls Neptune Waste Management System devices after receiving two reports of serious injury as a result of tissue damage. Please refer to the recall notice for details.
  • Food Safety Recall: Coast Citrus Distributors, Inc. and its divisions Coast Tropical and Olympic Fruit & Vegetable recall Coast Tropical Brand Fresh Mangoes (Product of Mexico; 8-12 count case; PLU’s 3114, 4051, 4311, 4584, 4959), packed at Agricola Daniella (Sinaloa, Mexico), due to reports of Salmonella Braenderup illness potentially associated with mangoes from Agricola Daniella.
  • Food Safety Recall: Falcon Trading Company, Inc./ SunRidge Farms (Royal Oaks, CA) recalls Sunridge Candy – Energy Nuggets (10-lb case; Lot codes 2351244; 2361244; 2411244; 2421244; 1851217; 1871217; 1881817; 1911217; 1921217; 1931217; 1941217; 1951217), Sunridge Candy – Peanut Butter Power Chews (10-lb case; Lot codes 2511230; 2541230; 2551230; 2561230 2361214; 2371214; 2401214; 2211283 2221283; 2271283; 2281283; 2011212 2021212; 2051212; 2061212; 2071212 2081212; 1711269; 1721269; 1731269; 1741269; 1771269; 1781269) and Sunridge Snack Mix- Treasure Trove Mix (20-lb case; Lot codes 2051213; 2271263), because the products contain peanut butter supplied by Sunland, Inc. and may be contaminated with Salmonella.
  • Outbreak Alert Update: CDC reports that 30 persons have been infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Bredeney in 19 states, including 4 persons who were hospitalized. Epidemiological investigations indicated that Trader Joe’s Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter made with Sea Salt is a likely source of this outbreak. Europe

  • Allergy Alert: Morrisons recalls Morrisons Trio Houmous (210g; Use by 27 September 2012), because the product contains undeclared egg.
  • Food Safety Alert (UK): The Food Standards Agency has updated its warning regarding Czech spirits that contain more than 20% alcohol, following reports that the number of methanol poisoning related deaths in the Czech Republic has risen to 24. Following is a list of affected brands: AB Style Tuzemák, Albánská Borovička, Lašský Tuzemák, Likerka Drak Original Tuzemák, Likerka Drak Original Vodka Jemná, Meruňka, Švestková vodka, Vodka Lunar, and Wodka Frederic.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): I/S Slagtergården Engros recalls Cooked Sausage (Batch No. 190 SK; Package Date 14-09-2012), due to contamination with Listeria.
  • Food Safety Withdrawal (Ireland): Holle Baby Food GmbH withdraws Holle Organic 3-Grain Porridge Baby Food (Product of Germany; Batch code R11171; Best before 25/04/2013), due to the detection of the mycotoxin, ochratoxin A above the permitted limit.
  • Cosmetic Product Safety Recall (Spain): The Spanish Agency for Drugs and Health Products mandates the recall of CREMA BLANQUEANTE SKIN LIGHT CAROTTE and LABIDJANAISE LAIT TRAITANT ECLAIRCISSANT POUR LA TEINT, because the products contain the active pharmaceutical agents clobetasol and hydroquinona.
  • Outbreak Alert (Wales, UK): Fifty-one guests and 23 staff members were infected with norovirus at the Hilton Hotel in Langstone, according to  BBC. The victims complained of diarrhea and vomitting. The hotel remains open.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.1358): Histamine in chilled tuna fillet from Ecuador, via France; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.1359): Glass fragments in sausage from Germany; distributed to Germany.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.1360): Salmonella in dandelion; distributed to Finland.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.1361): Parasitic infestation of dates from Tunisia; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.1362): Listeria monocytogenes in smoked salmon from Lithuania; distributed to Italy.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Food Safety Recall (Singapore): SuperNature Pte Ltd. recalls Holle brand Organic 3-Grain Porridge  – rice, maize and millet (250g; Lot R11171; Best before 25/04/2013), because the product may contain high levels of ochratoxin A.

  • Allergy Alert: Hanover Pike Enterprises, Inc. (Hampstead, MD) recalls Pepper Jelly (8-oz and 4-oz jars), Green Pepper Jelly (8-oz and 4-oz jars), Blackberry Brandy Jam (4-oz and 9-oz jars) and Peach Brandy Jam (4-oz and 9-oz jars), because the products may contain undeclared milk and soy. The items were distributed nationwide through retail stores and via the company website under the label “Jill’s Jams Mixes and More” or “Jill’s Jams and Jellies”.
  • Food Safety Recall/Outbreak Alert: Trader Joe’s expands its earlier recall to include Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter (sku 97111), Valencia Peanut Butter with Roasted Flaxseeds (sku 98927) and Almond Butter with Roasted Flaxseeds (sku 94079), because of potential contamination with Salmonella. The products are packed in 16-oz plastic jars; All code dates up to and including 24SEPT13 are affected. The CDC has named Trader Joe’s Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter as a ‘likely source’ of 29 cases of Salmonella Bredeney infections in 18 US states.
  • Food Safety Recall: Sunland, Inc. recalls Almond Butter and Peanut Butter products manufactured between May 1, 2012 and September 24, 2012, because these products may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled products were distributed nationally to numerous large supermarket chains under a number of different brands, including Trader Joe’s.
  • Food Safety Recall: Haggen Northwest Fresh and TOP Food & Drug recall a number of ground beef items sold in Washington and Oregon, because the product contains trimmings that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.   • Food Safety Recall: Albertsons recalls ground beef products that contain beef trimmings that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. The recalled products were sold in Albertsons stores in Washington, Oregon and three Northern Idaho cities (Coeur d’Alene, Hayden and Lewiston. Please consult the Canada/USA Ground Beef Recall tab for a detailed list of recalled products and retail distribution.

  • Allergy Alert: Maison des viandes (Rouyn-Noranda, QC) recalls a number of pies and pâtés (sold up to 21 September 2012), due to the presence of undeclared eggs, sulfites, or mustard.
  • Food Safety Recall: Salaison La Maison du Rôti (Montréal, QC) recalls Sauce Viande et Champignons, La Maison du Rôti (2-liter and 3-liter glass jars; Best before 15 November), because the product was not prepared in a manner that would ensure its microbiological safety and was displayed and sold without refrigeration.

  • Food Safety Recall (Israel): Tapugan Industries Company Ltd. recalls Waffles Frozen Mashed Potato Puree (500g package; UPC barcode 7290012884467; Expiry date 01.31.2014), because the product may be contaminated with plastic pieces.
  • Food Safety/Outbreak Notification Update (EU #2012.1302): Salmonella Dublin outbreak suspected to be caused by raw milk cheese from France; distributed to Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Nigeria, Norway, Spain and Sweden.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Food Safety Recall (Australia): Cerebos (Australia) Ltd. recalls Foster Clark’s Snak Pack – Chocolate (2 x 140gm; Best before 21 AUG 2013, 22 AUG 2013, 23 AUG 2013 and 06 SEP 2013), Foster Clark’s Snak Pack – Chocolate (4 x 140gm; Best before 23 AUG 2013, 24 AUG 2013, 06 SEP 2013 and 07 SEP 2013), Foster Clark’s Snak Pack – Strawberry (2 x 140gm; Best Before 03 SEP 2013), Foster Clark’s Snak Pack – Banana (4 x 140gm; Best before 27 AUG 2013 and 28 AUG 2013), and Foster Clark’s Custard Cups – Vanilla (4 x 140gm; Best Before 29 AUG 2013 and 30 AUG 2013), because the products may contain small pieces of plastic.
