  • Allergy Alert: King’s Delight (Gainesville, GA) recalls APPLEGATE® Naturals Gluten-Free Chicken Nuggets (8-oz cartons; Est. P-2617; Lot #210864; Best before 08/28/13; UPC 25317-00556), due to undeclared wheat. The recalled products were supplied to retail stores in Indiana, Maryland, Oregon and Washington.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall: Fromagerie Bergeron Inc. recalls Fromagerie Bergeron Brins de Gouda Firm Unripened Cheese (100g, 180g, 230g, 260g, 300g, 500g & 2.5Kg sizes; Packaged 2013 JA 14; Best before 2013 JA 29; Lot 13-0065), Fromagerie Bergeron Le Populaire Unripened Firm Cheese (335g & 675g sizes; Prepared 2013JA14; Best before 2013AL14; Lot 13-65 or 13-66) and Fromagerie Bergeron Le Populaire Unripened Firm Cheese (2.2 (variable weight) Kg; Preparation date 13JA1465; 13AL14), due to the presence of metal fragments. The recalled products were supplied to retailers in Quebec, including Costco Canada.
  • Outbreak Alert Update: The Public Health Agency of Canada reports that an additional outbreak case of E. coli O157:H7 has been confirmed in New Brunswick, bringing the total number of cases to thirty, including 7 in New Brunswick, 10 in Nova Scotia and 13 in Ontario. The illnesses are most likely related to the consumption of shredded lettuce from California that was distributed to some KFC and KFC-Taco Bell restaurants by FreshPoint Inc. Thirteen of the 30 outbreak victims have been hospitalized, including one who developed hemolytic uremic syndrome.

  • Dietary Supplement Safety Alert (Hong Kong): The Department of Health warns the public not to purchase or consume Leisure 18 Slimming Coffee, as it was found to contain the undeclared and banned drug ingredients sibutramine and phenolphthalein.

  • Allergy Alert: Peak Performance Products Inc. (Toronto, ON) recalls Dymatize Nutrition brand Elite Gourmet Cookies & Cream Bar (42.5g & 85g; Lot Code BB SEP 2013 12200A and BB JAN 2014 12310A, respectively), Dymatize Nutrition brand Elite Gourmet Fudge Brownie Bar (42.5g; Lot code BB OCT 2013 12244A) and Dymatize Nutrition brand Elite Gourmet Fudge Brownie Bar (85g; Lot codes BB MAY 2013 12084A and BB SEP 2013 12199A), due to undeclared peanuts. The recalled products were distributed nationally.
  • Allergy Alert: Heidelberg Foods Ltd. (Est 644) recalls Noah Martin’s Black Forest Salami (variable kg; Sold up to and including January 11, 2013) and Noah Martin’s Black Forest Salami (1.5 (min.) kg; Best before 2013 MR 07, 2013 JN 27 and 2013 NO 13), due to undeclared mustard. The recalled products were supplied to retailers, hotels, restaurants and institutions in Ontario.
  • Food Safety Recall: Fromagerie Bergeron Inc. recalls Fromagerie Bergeron Brins de Gouda Firm Unripened Cheese (500g; Best before 2013 JA 29; Lot 13-0065 & 13-0066; UPC 062036020506) and Fromagerie Bergeron Le Populaire Firm Unripened Cheese (675g; Best before 2013 AV 14; Lot 13-65; UPC 62036007453)  due to the potential presence of metal shards resulting from an equipment malfunction. The recalled products were supplied to Costco Canada warehouse stores.
  • Outbreak Alert Update: The Public Health Agency of Canada has confirmed a twenty-ninth case of E. coli O157:H7 associated with the consumption of shredded lettuce originating in California and distributed in Canada by FreshPoint Inc. The 29 illnesses occurred in New Brunswick (6), Nova Scotia (10) and Ontario (13) between December 22, 2012 and January 5, 2013. Fourteen people have been hospitalized.

  • Contact Lens Recall (UK): Johnson & Johnson Vision Care recalls 1-Day Acuvue® Moist® Brand Contact Lenses (Lot 2054890521 & 2054895620) and Acuvue® Advance® brand Contact Lenses with Hydraclear® (Lot B00DJPQ), due to the potential for a limited number of contact lens packages to not have completely sealed, which may result in the loss of or leaking of the packaging solution in some individual contact lens units and could compromise contact lens sterility.

  • Allergy Alert (Ireland): The Food Safety Authority of Ireland warns consumers that Rose Snowcreams (300g box Family Pack box; Best before 19/11/2013) contains undeclared egg, milk, soy and nuts, and should not be consumed by individuals who are allergic or intolerant to any of those ingredients.
  • Food Safety Recall (Belgium): Carrefour alerts its customers to the recall by Jan Dupont of all lots of the following cheeses, manufactured by la Fromagerie de Jussac (France) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination: Reflets de France Brique du Forez au lait de brebis (200g; UPC 3245390064578), Reflets de France Brique du Forez au lait de vache (200g; UPC 3245390226419), Reflets de France Brique du Forez au lait de chevre (200g; UPC 3245390064585), Carrefour Brique lait de chevre (200g; UPC 3270190215226), and Carrefour Brique lait de vache (250g; UPC 3270190215219).   • Food Safety Recall (Scotland, UK): Snax 4 U (Glasgow) recalls all varieties of Snax 4 U branded Sandwiches, baguettes, wraps and rolls made with various fillings (Use by dates up to and including 14 January 2013), because the items were produced in premises served with a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice due to food hygiene contraventions involving rodent infestation.
  • Food Safety Recall (Scotland, UK): Snax 4 U (Glasgow) recalls Burns Bakers pre-packed bakery products (postcode G21 1HS on label) and Highlands Foods pre-packed bakery products (postcode G21 1HS on label), because the products were produced in premises served with a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice due to rodent infestation.
  • Food Safety Alert (UK): The Food Standards Agency warns the public that the following products, originating in China via The Netherlands, should not be consumed, as they are contaminated with high levels of Bacillus cereus: Koon Yick Wah Kee – Rose Bean Curd Tofu (454g; Best before 30 December 2013; Lot #023424) and Koon Yick Wah Kee – Chilli Bean Curd Tofu (454g; Best before 30 December 2013; Lot #023421).   • Contact Lens Safety Recall (Italy): Johnson & Johnson Vision Care recalls 1-Day ACUVUE® MOIST® Contact Lenses (Lot #2054890521, 2054895620) and ACUVUE® ADVANCE® with HYDRACLEAR® Contact Lenses (Lot #B00DJPQ), due to incomplete seal welds in a limited number of packages. The weld defects could result in the loss or spillage of preservation solution in which the lenses are immersed and may compromise product sterility.
