United States

Pet Food Safety Recall: Evanger’s Pet Food and Against the Grain expand earlier recalls to include 13 months of date codes and a third product. Twelve-ounce cans of Evanger’s Hunk of Beef, Evanger’s Braised Beef and Against the Grain Pulled Beef (all lots manufactured between December 2015 and January 2017; expiration dates of December 2019 through January 2021), due to potential adulteration with pentobarbital, a euthanasia agent. FDA investigation is ongoing.

Pet Food Market Withdrawal: Blue Buffalo withdraws 17 varieties of BLUE Divine Delights 3.5 oz. cups and BLUE Wilderness Trail Trays 3.5 oz. cups due to a quality issue with the foil seal on the top of the cup.

Outbreak Alert: CDC reports an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 linked to I.M. Healthy brand SoyNut Butter. A total of 12 confirmed cases have been documented in five states: Arizona, California, Maryland, New Jersey and Oregon. Six people have been hospitalized; four with hemolytic uremic syndrome. No deaths have been reported.

Food Safety Recall: The SoyNut Butter Co. recalls I.M. Healthy Original Creamy SoyNut Butter (15 oz plastic jars with the Best By dates July 05, 2018, August 30, 2018, and August 31, 2018; individual portion cups with the Best By date as August 08, 2018; and 4 lb plastic tubs with Best By dates of November 16, 2018 and July 25, 2018.), due to potential contamination with E. coli O157:H7. The recalled product was distributed in multiple states and may have been purchased in stores or through mail order. It was also distributed to childcare centers and schools in multiple states.

Food Safety Recall: Ohio Farms Packing Co. Ltd. recalls Atlantic Veal & Lamb Inc. Boneless Veal products due to possible contamination with E. coli O103. Please refer to the recall notice for details of the affected products.

Food Safety Recall: Meijer expands its earlier recall to include Meijer brand Artisan Made Natural Muenster Cheese and pre-wrapped Ham Sub on Artisan White Baguette due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. Please refer to the recall notice for additional details.

Food Safety Recall: Dos Hermanos, Inc. recalls Carne Seca Beef Jerky: Chihuas Natural (8-oz pkgs; shipped to retailers in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri between Oct 26, 2016 through Feb. 23, 2017), because the jerky was produced without the benefit of federal inspection.

Canada

Allergy Alert: Ahaa Foods recalls Eastern brand Payasam Mix (200g) due to undeclared wheat.

Allergy Alert (updated to include additional product information): Hen Long Market Oriental Food Co. Ltd recalls Happy brand Mangosteen Pudding (110g x 6; all lots) due to undeclared milk.

Food Safety Recall: The Liquor Control Board of Ontario recalls Georgian Bay brand Vodka (750 mL; Batch 19) due to high alcohol content.

Food Safety Recall: Charcuterie Jacques-Cartier (Valleyfield, QC) recalls Fondue au Fromages Classiques/Classic Cheese Fondue, as the labelling does not disclose that the cheese mixture contains cheese manufactured from raw milk or unpasteurized milk.

Europe

Allergy Alert (Denmark): Scan Choco A/S recalls Easter Øko-mandler med mørk chokolade og kokos/Easter Organic almonds with dark chocolate and coconut (110g; Best before 07/12/2017) due to a labeling error. The package actually contains milk chocolate. Milk is not declared on the label.

Allergy Alert (Ireland): Tesco recalls Tesco Spaghetti Bolognese, frozen (400g; all date codes) due to undeclared egg.

Allergy Alert (Sweden): Fazer Konfektyr recalls Cocosprickar/Coco Dots (1kg & 2.1kg; various production lots) due to possible cross-contamination with hazelnuts and almonds. Please refer to the recall notice for additional details.

Allergy Alert (UK): Tesco recalls all date codes of Spaghetti Bolognese (frozen), due to undeclared egg.

Allergy Alert (UK): Zipvit Ltd. recalls ZV Whey Protein 80 (500g; All lot numbers and date codes) due to undeclared milk.

Allergy Alert (UK): Uncle Roy’s recalls Natural Bitter Almond Extract (50ml/1.750z pkg; Best before 2017 and 2018; Batch codes 112787, 112789, 113172, 114374, 114432 and 115614) due to undeclared nuts.

Food Safety Recall (Belgium): Le Larry recalls Artisanal Goat Cheese made using raw milk (125g; Lot 1705401; Expiration dates 02-03-17, 03-03-17, 05-03-17, 07-03-17 and 13-03-17) due to potential contamination with Shiga-toxin producing E. coli.

Food Safety Recall (Belgium): Lotus Bakeries recalls Lotus Crunchy Biscuit Spread because the product may contain small pieces of metal. Please refer to the recall notice for additional details.

Food Recall (Denmark): Danpo A/S recalls Smagfuld Kyllingeoverlår (800g; packed 28/02/2016; Best before 09/06/2017) due to an incorrect Best before date. The Best before date should read 09/03/2017.

Food Safety Recall (Finland): Oy Semper Ab recalls BabySemp 2 (200 ml; Best before 10/06/2017) due to a packaging fault that can result in product deterioration.

Food Safety Recall (Germany): Lotus Bakeries GmbH recalls Lotus Biscoff Brotaufstrich Crunchy (380g; various production codes) because the product may contain small pieces of metal. Please refer to the recall notice for additional details.

Food Safety Recall (Germany): Kaufland Warenhandels GmbH & Co.KG recalls K-Classic Königsberger Klopse in Kapersauce, frozen (450g; Expiry date 07.2018; Lot #MHD 07/2018) due to Salmonella contamination.

Allergy Alert (Australia): Jinyuanbao Investment Pty Ltd recalls Jinyuanbao Pork Vegetable Wonton and Jinyuanbao Chicken Vegetable Wonton (300g; All best before dates up to and including 10 April 2017) due to undeclared wheat.

Allergy Alert: Procesadora La Hacienda, Inc. (Juncos, PR) recalls Seasoned Meat raw meat chubs (2 pieces of 5 lb. per box; packed June 10, 2016 and Feb 7, 2017; Est. No. 21217A), due to undeclared wheat and whey.

Allergy Alert: Fratelli Beretta USA, Inc. recalls Deli Thin Dietz & Watson Mortadella (3-oz plastic pkgs; Lot #LO23633800; Best by April 2, 2017) due to undeclared pistachio nuts.

Allergy Alert: Northern Food I/E Inc. (Westbury, NY) recalls RA’s Farm dried apricots (12-oz packages; UPC 754351-144424) due to undeclared sulfites.

Allergy Alert: Peekay International Inc (Maspeth, NY) recalls “Pashupati brand Furundana” food treats (13-oz clear plastic pkg; Batch #APR 2016; Expiration date Apr 09, 2018) due to undeclared peanuts.

Allergy Alert: Whole Foods Market recalls Our Chef’s Own Spinach Orzo Salad (PLU 61159; Sold on date February 24 or before) due to undeclared pine nuts. The recalled salads were sold in Whole Foods Market stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine and Rhode Island.

Allergy Alert: Meijer recalls pre-made Caesar salad kits (Sell by March 3, 2017), because the salads were mislabeled as Greek Salads. The mislabeled salads contain packaged croutons, which is an undeclared wheat allergen not included on the Greek salad kit label.

Allergy Alert: Whole Foods Market stores in Arlington, MA and Brookline, MA are issuing an allergy alert to recall Lonestar Bakeries Cream Cheese King Cakes sold between February 4 and February 26, due to an in-store labeling error.

Food Safety Recall: Wayne Farms, LLC (Decatur, AL) recalls Waffle Breaded Bites: Fully Cooked Breaded White Meat Chicken Bites (5-lb clear plastic bags, 2/case; Est. No. P-20214; packaged Dec. 1, 13 and 30, 2016) due to a potential processing defect, resulting in the potential survival of bacterial pathogens in the products. The recalled products were shipped to Food Lion stores in Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

Food Safety Recall: Gourmet Classic Salads, Inc. (Lake Wall, FL) recalls ready-to-eat meat and poultry products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes. ready-to-eat salad, wrap and snack items were produced and packaged from Jan. 30, 2017 through Feb. 24, 2017. Food Safety Recall: Yoke’s Fresh Market recalls Colby Jk Longhorn Cheese and Colby Longhorn Cheese (16 oz; sold between 09/01/16 and 01/27/17 in Yoke’s Fresh Market stores in Washington and Idaho under the Yoke’s Fresh Market private label) due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

Food Safety Recall: Manzana Products Co., Inc. recalls Trader Joe’s All Natural Unsweetened Apple Sauce (all codes through DEC 16, 2018), Trader Joe’s Organic Unsweetened Apple Sauce (All codes through OCT 06, 2018) and Trader Joe’s First Crush Unsweetened Gravenstein Apple Sauce (all codes through AUG 08, 2018) because the company received consumer reports of glass found in some of the products.

Food Safety Recall: Lipari Foods, LLC recalls various Copperwood and Lipari Old Tyme brands of bulk and retail cheeses due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Food Safety Recall: ALDI Inc., in cooperation with Versa Marketing, recalls Fusia Szechuan Stir Fry (21-oz bag; Best by 06/14/18) due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Food Safety Alert: The Hawaii State Department of Health (DOH) has ordered Meadow Gold Dairies to stop its distribution and sale of two-percent reduced fat milk. DOH issued a Cease and Desist Order to the company today after laboratory results from routine milk samples exceeded standard limits for Coliform bacteria. Samples of two-percent reduced fat milk taken from Meadow Gold Dairies on Jan. 19, Feb. 6 and Feb. 22, 2017 revealed coliform counds in excess of 150/ml, 130/ml and in excess of 150/ml, respectively. The maximum allowed limit for coliforms in pasteurized milk is 10/ml.

Canada

E. coli Outbreak Update: The Public Health Agency of Canada has received reports of four additional cases of E. coli O121 illnesses. The outbreak, the source of which has not been identified, now comprises 20 confirmed cases of E. coli O121 with a matching genetic fingerprint, reported in British Columbia (8), Saskatchewan (4), Alberta (3) and Newfoundland and Labrador (5). Illness onset dates range from November 2016 to January 2017. The investigation is ongoing.

Allergy Alert: Alimentation Du-Mag inc. (Sacré-Coeur, QC) recalls Strudel, due to undeclared milk, egg and soy protein.

Allergy Alert: Bella Biscotti recalls various biscotti products due to undeclared egg and milk. Please refer to the recall notice for a detailed list of affected products, which were distributed to retailers in Ontario.

Allergy Alert (Update): Amira Enterprises Inc. updates its recall of Ziyad brand Soup Starter Soup Base – Jameed issued on February 24, 2017 to include additional distribution information. Please refer to the recall notice for additional details.

Food Safety Recall: Transilvania Trading recalls Trader Joe’s Organic Unsweetened Apple Sauce (All Best Before dates up through OCT 06, 2018) and Trader Joe’s First Crush Unsweetened Gravenstein Apple Sauce (All Best Before dates through AUG 08, 2018) due to the potential presence of pieces of glass. The recalled items were sold at Pirate Joe’s, located at 3744 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, British Columbia.

Europe

Food Safety Recall (UK): Quorn Foods Ltd. recalls frozen Quorn Meat Free Mince (300g pkg; Best before 31 August 2018; Batch code 136331) because the product may contain small pieces of metal.

Pet Food Recall (UK): Pets at Home recalls four lines of AVA Dry Cat Food products because they contain lower levels of thiamine (vitamin B1) than specified in the recipe. Please refer to the recall notice for details.

Food Safety Alert (Hong Kong): The Hong Kong Department of Health urges the public not to buy or consume a product called Eromate Coffee as it was found to contain an undeclared Part 1 poison

Australia and New Zealand

Food Safety Recall (Australia): Cottage Cheese Farm Pty Ltd. recalls Cottage Cheese Farm Ricotta (425g and 3kg plastic tubs; Use by 2 Mar 2017, 4 Mar 2017 and 5 Mar 2017 (425g), 7 Mar 2017 and 9 March (3kg); Product of Australia) due to E. coli contamination. The recalled products were distributed at Cottage Cheese farm store, delicatessens, small independent retailers, cafés and caterers in VIC.

Food Safety Recall: Lakeview Cheese and Bashas’ Family of Stores recalls various types of Colby cheese due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products were distributed by Las Vegas-based Lakeview Cheese to Bashas’ Family of Stores, and sold in Bashas’ and Food City supermarkets’ Arizona meat departments under the grocery brands’ private label. Food Recall: WinCo Foods and Buehler’s Fresh Foods recall Two Bite Pecan Mini Tarts (9.2 oz; All lot codes), manufactured by Give and Go Prepared Foods (Ontario, Canada) because the product may contain dried weevil larvae.

Public Health Alert: The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert due to concerns that certain PREMO brand meat and poultry wraps produced by JLM Manufacturing (Shelby Township, MI) may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. A recall was not requested because it is believed that all products have been consumed and are past their “Best by” dates. Please refer to the FSIS notice for details.

Canada

Allergy Alert: Poissonnerie du Marché (Laval, QC) recalls Taramosalata Dip (all product sold up to and including February 22, 2017) due to undeclared milk.

Allergy Alert: Amira Enterprises Inc. recalls Ziyad brand Soup Starter Soup Based – Jameed (1 kg) and Ziyad & Chef’s Soup Starter Soup Base – Jameed & Premium Rice (1.91 kg) due to undeclared milk. The recalled products were distributed to retailers in Alberta, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec.

Food Safety Recall: IFC Seafood Inc. recalls Irresistibles brand Giant Scallops (300g; Code Oct 10 2018; Lot 164105 16284) due to metal pieces in the product. The recalled product was distributed to retailers in Ontario and Quebec.

Food Safety Recall: Les Placements GT7 Inc. – Marché du Coin – Super Sagamie (Saguenay, QC) recalls Spaghetti Sauce (800 mL and 1 L glass jars; sold up to and including February 22, 2017) due to potential underprocessing that may render the product unsafe.

Food Safety Recall: Pâtisserie La Bonne Fournée (Matane, QC) recalls Cipaille (500 mL and 1 L; sold up to and including February 22, 2017) because the product is missing the required label instruction indicating that it must be refrigerated.

Food Safety Recall: Les Pâtes Cortina Inc. (Quebec, QC) recalls Sauce à la Viande/Meat Sauce (500 mL and 1L; Lots 08/02/2017 and 15/02/2017; Exp. 25/03/2017 and 01/04/2017) due to potential underprocessing that may render the product unsafe.

Public Health Notice Update – Norovirus: The Public Health Agency of Canada advises Canadians that a total of 267 clinical cases of gastrointestinal illness linked to oysters have been reported in British Columbia (179), Alberta (40) and Ontario (48). Testing of several cases has confirmed the presence of Norovirus infection. All individuals who became ill reported having eaten oysters.

Europe

Allergy Alert (Denmark): Dan Viet (Odense) recalls Kokoscreme Royal Thai i dåse (400 mL; Expiry 11-06-2019) and Lotusrod i lage (Net wt. 200g; Expiry 31-12-2018) due to undeclared sulphites.

Allergy Alert (UK): Waitrose recalls Frozen 2 Breaded Haddock Fillets (300g; Batch no L7 038 N; Pack size 2; Best before end February 2018) due to undeclared mustard and milk.

Food Safety Recall (Czech Republic): Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority warns the public not to consume Grandma Beauty Seven Herbs bagged tea with Echinacea (Batch L09111630 C; Best before 09 11 18; Manufactured by Mokate SA, Ustron, Poland) because the presence of alkaloids and scopolamine renders the tea unfit for human consumption.

Food Recall (Denmark): Danish Crown Oldenburg GmbH recalls ground beef sold in Aldi (400g net weight; Printed expiry date 03/28/2017; Lot no. ID2002) due to an incorrect expiry date.

Food Safety Recall (Germany): Steigerwald Mineralbrunnen GmbH recalls various mineral waters and sweetened beverages after a foreign body was found in some bottles. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Food Safety Recall (Germany): Martin Amberger Kartoffelverarbeitung Dolli-Werk GmbH & Co. KG recalls Dolli and Feldmühle potato salad products (Best before dates 26.2.2017, 13.03.2017 and 16.3.2017) due to an error in the use of metal detection equipment.

Food Safety Alert (Germany): The North Rhine-Westphalian Department of Consumer Protection warns against the consumption of “Diamond Vodka” after laboratory tests reveal that the product contains 15 grams of methanol per liter, exceeding the permitted limit by 400 times. A criminal investigation is in progress.

Food Safety Recall (Ireland): Wicklow Farmhouse Cheese recalls Wicklow Blue Cheese (Batch codes 16334C and 17018A; Use by dates 23.02.2017 and 11.04.2017) due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

Food Safety Recall (Israel): Tnuva recalls Cdi Yogurt (3-liter, 3%, 4% and 6.5% fat; Expiry dates 25/02/17 to 04/02/17) due to the presence of plastic residues in the products.

Australia and New Zealand

Allergy Alert (Australia): Ottovo International Trading P/L recalls Wheat Pop Sesame Flavour Popped Wheat Snack (400g plastic bag; Best before 25-10-2017; Imported from China) due to undeclared peanut. The product was distributed through Chinese grocery stores in NSW and ACT.
