United States
  • Allergy Alert (Retail Distribution): Kroger advises its customers with sensitivity to milk that Garibaldi Turkey Tamale (11 oz) and Garibaldi Beef Tamale (11 oz) were among the products recalled by Homestead Pasta Company (San Francisco, CA) due to the presence of undeclared whey. The Garibaldi brand Tamales were sold in Fred Meyer and QFC supermarkets.
  • Topical OTC Product Safety Recall (Update): Stop & Shop Supermarket Company recalls its CareOne Alcohol Swabs and CareOne Alcohol Swabs with Pain Relief because of potential contamination with Bacillus cereus.
Canada
  • Allergy Alert: Seoul Trading Corporation recalls Misori Vermicelli Dumplings, 675g (Lot Code 26.12.2011A) and Choripdong Vegetable Dumplings, 540g (Lot Code 2010.05.28D), because the products contain undeclared egg. The recalled products, which were imported from Korea, were distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
  • Allergy Alert: Sun Fung Foods (Canada) Inc. recalls Ideal Food brand Ideal Spicy Bake Mix, 180g (6x30g; all lot codes), because the product contains undeclared egg, gluten and soy. The recalled bake mix was distributed in Ontario.
  • Dietary Supplement Safety Recall: Synerate, manufactured for Strive and distributed by Upper 49th, is being recalled because it contains unauthorized caffein and synephrine, which may cause serious adverse reactions. The Synerate products were distributed by Upper 49th to retail stores in 2010 and may also have been distributed as part of a kit with t-shirts as well as product samples.
Europe
  • Food Safety Recall (UK): Rocks Organic Ltd. recalls Rocks Organic Blackcurrant Squash, 750ml (Best before May 2012; Batch code L0307), due to a process failure. The failure may result in product fermentation, which could trigger breakage of the glass bottle.

  • Allergy Alert: Homestead Pasta Company (San Francisco, CA) recalls frozen meat and poultry tamale products because they contain undeclared whey. The recalled products were manufactured from April 2010 until January 2011 and shipped for retail sales in California, Oregon and Washington and for institutional use in California. The following brands and products are encompassed by this recall: Garibaldi Beef Tamale, Garibaldi Turkey Tamale, Golden West Traditional Beef Tamale With Sauce in Husk, Golden West Traditional Turkey Tamale With Sauce in Husk, Casper Homestead Pasta Company Beef Tamale, and Casper Homestead Pasta Company Chicken Tamale.
  • Food Safety Recall: Boncheff Greenhouses, Inc. (Toronto, ON) recalls Cilantro, Curly Parsley and Italian Parsley, following a recall initiated by J & D Produce (Edinburg, TX), because the herbs may be contaminated with Salmonella. Boncheff repacked and distributed the recalled herbs to Wegmans Food Markets in Erie, PA (two stores) and New York state (except Corning, Elmira, Ithaca and Johnson City). The Italian Parsley (lot code 1002387) also was supplied under the Boncheff Brand to Budwey Markets (2 stores), Wades Market, Cuba Giant Food Market and Hegedorn’s.
  • Food Safety Recall: Columbus Meat Market Inc. (Chicago, IL) recalls ground beef patties that were supplied to food-handling establishments in the Chicago area (Est 755; Pack date 12/27/10), after the Illinois Department of Agriculture finds E. coli O157:H7 in a sample of the meat.
  • Food Safety Recall (Update): Top Food & Drug and Winco Foods advise their customers that clover and clover mix sprouts (available in stores of both chains) were recalled by Sprouters Northwest, Inc. after consumption of the sprouts was linked to several cases of Salmonella illnesses in Washington and Oregon.
  • Topical OTC Product Safety Recall: Topco Associates recalls Top Care brand alcohol swabs and alcohol prep pads manufactured by Triad Group, because the products may be contaminated with Bacillus cereus. The recalled Top Care swabs and pads were sold by the following retail store chains: Brookshire’s Food & Pharmacy, Food City, Giant Eagle, Super1Foods, Top Food & Drug, Tops Friendly Markets, and Wegmans. The recalled alcohol pads and swabs also were sold in Meijer stores (under the Meijer brand name) and under the Kroger store brand in stores belonging to the Kroger, Baker’s, City Market, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, Fry’s Gerbes, Jay C, King Soopers, QFC, Ralphs, and Smith’s chains.

  • Medical Device Safety Advisory (Australia): Abbott Diabetes Care has issued a Safety Advisory on Optium Pount of Care Glucose Test Strips 100s, Optium Glucose Test Strips 100s, and Optium Glucose Test Strips 10s, because the affected test strips may give falsely low blood glucose readings if exposed to high temperatures for extended periods of time. Please follow the live link to find the complete list of affected Lot Numbers. Abbott’s affected glucose test strips have been recalled or withdrawn in a number of countries worldwide.
Latin America and the Caribbean
  • Medical Device Safety Recall (Brazil): Abbott Laboratórios do Brasil Ltda recalls Optium Tiras Test, Optium Tiras Glicose Sangue OTC, and Optium Xceed Tiras POC CL, because the affected test strips may give falsely low blood glucose readings. This recall is part of a worldwide recall of glucose test strips initiated by Abbott.

  • Allergy Alert: Mocaroma (Canada) Ltd. (Scarborough, ON) recalls Dai Pai Dong brand No Sugar Added Instant Soya Milk (160g box; Best before 31-10-11), because the product contains undeclared milk. The recalled instant soya milk was distributed in Ontario.
Europe
  • Allergy Alert (UK): Wm Morrisons Supermarkets PLC recalls Morrisons Free From Chocolate and Orange Bar, 35g (Best before end December 2011) because the product contains undeclared milk.
  • Allergy Alert (UK): SFC Ltd. recalls SFC Chicken Mini Fillets, 200g (Best before December 2011 and March 2012; Batch codes L0315 and L0336, respectively), because the product contains undeclared celery. The recalled product is only sold in Sainsbury’s stores.
  • Allergy Alert (Ireland): The Food Safety Authority of Ireland warns consumers that soya was detected in Amaizin Organic Chilli Cornrolls (Best before 14.04.2011; Batch code 301950331). The soya was not declared on the product label.
  • Food Safety Withdrawal (Ireland): UK authorities have requested a withdrawal of Natco Brown Basmati Rice (Product of Pakistan; Batch No. 0902107067; Best before 28.02.2012), due to the presence of aflatoxins. Some of the implicated product was distributed to a small number of food businesses in Cork and Dublin, and has been withdrawn from sale.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall: Aguettant recalls Aguettant brand Morphine (chlorhydrate) 10 mg/ml – 1 ml injectable solution, after an ampoule of Atropine was found in a box of ampoules labelled Morphine.
  • Animal Feed Safety Notification (EU #2011.0012): Salmonella Agona in rapeseed meal from Belgium; distributed to Finland.
  • Pet Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0013): Salmonella Senftenberg in dog chew from India; distributed to Sweden.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0014): Salmonella in pork fat from Germany; distributed to Italy.
  • Allergy Alert Notification (EU #2011.0015): Undeclared soya in chili flavoured corn chips from the Netherlands; distributed to Ireland.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.0016): Aflatoxins in unsalted pistachio nuts in shell from Italy; distributed to Gibraltar and the United Kingdom.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Allergy Alert (Update): Coles Supermarkets Australia Ltd. recalls Coles Frozen Crumbed Fish Fillets Lemon Flavoured (1 kg and 425g; product of China; all Best before dates up to and including 05/01/2013), because the product contains undeclared peanuts. The recalled frozen fish was distributed nationally in Australia; no information on distribution outside Australia is available.
