Outbreak/Illness Investigations

DENMARK (Update): The Statens Serum Institut continues to investigate an outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium ST19 infections that has grown to 25 confirmed cases across 5 regions. The source of the outbreak has not yet been determined.

USA (Update): CDC has updated its Cyclosporiasis Case Data webpage. Although the “official season” ended on August 31st, the agency is still catching up to the case count. As of today, the CDC reports 19,595 confirmed domestically acquired cases of cyclosporiasis in 49 states plus the District of Columbia. The total includes 1,043 hospitalizations and two deaths. There are an additional 9,355 cases awaiting determination as to whether or not they were travel-related, 1,997 cases (including 71 hospitalizations) in 46 states plus Puerto Rico confirmed to be travel-related, and a further 6,149 or more additional cases of cyclosporiasis, which include those that are not laboratory confirmed, or are pending patient interview and submission to CDC.
