OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: CDC and FDA are investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Infantis illnesses linked to an as-yet-undetermined brand of flour. Twelve individuals in eleven states have fallen ill, and three of the victims were hospitalized. Among the seven people interviewed so far, six of them reported eating raw dough or batter. Flour was the only common ingredient in the raw dough or batter.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (Multi-national): ECDC reports that an outbreak of Salmonella Virchow illnesses that began in 2017 is on-going. As of March 30, 2023, a total of 210 cases have been reported by Denmark (2), France (111), Germany (26), Ireland (4), the Netherlands (34), the UK (32), and the US (1). Kebab meat products containing contaminated chicken meat are the likely vehicles of infections, according to the ECDC.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA advises restaurants and retailers not to serve or sell and consumers not to eat certain raw oysters from Dai One Foods Co., Ltd, Republic of Korea, due to possible sapovirus contamination. The Southern Nevada Health District notified the FDA of two clusters of illnesses from individuals that consumed raw oysters at a restaurant in Las Vegas on 10/28/2022 and 11/5/2022. 

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA reports that the Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak has increased in size to 269 cases. The source of the outbreak has not yet been determined. The CDC has not posted any information on distribution of confirmed cases across the country.

Allergy Alert: Weis Markets recalls Weis Quality Sea Salt Caramel Ripple Ice Cream (48 oz; Sell by 11/08/23; UPC 041497-01288) due to undeclared soy and coconut.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Happy Sprout Inc. (Springfield, VA) that the agency’s July 2022 inspection of the company’s sprouting operation revealed serious violations of the Standards for the Growing, Harvesting, Packing, and Holding of Produce for Human Consumption regulation.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Singapore): The Ministry of Health and the Singapore Food Agency are investigating two incidents of gastroenteritis affecting a total of 284 persons who reported gastroenteritis symptoms after consuming food prepared by Rasel Catering Singapore Pte Ltd between 8 and 16 November 2022. The company’s have been suspended until further notice.
