Allergy Alert: New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets warns consumers that Stash Foods’ “Kelewele Hot Spices” (8-oz jar; Batch code SF/KHS/03-18; Best before December 2022; Product of Ghana) contains undeclared peanut allergens and should be avoided by anyone allergic to peanuts.

Food Safety Recall: Alfa International Seafood, Inc. recalls refrigerated, wild-caught yellowfin tuna loins (Sell by dates between August 29, 2019 and September 14, 2019) due to elevated levels of histamine. Five illnesses have been reported. Customers who purchased these products between August 20, 2019 and September 7, 2019 should not consume them and should return them to a store for a full refund. Europe

OUTBREAK ALERT (NORWAY): The Public Health Institute, Food Safety Authority and other federal and municipal agencies are investigating three cases of a single variant of enterohaemorrhagic E. coli to determine whether there is a common source for the infections.

OUTBREAK ALERT – DOGS (NORWAY): The Norwegian Food Safety Authority and the Veterinary Institute are investigating an outbreak of severe diarrhea and vomiting in dogs. Autopsies conducted on three of the dogs have revealed severe bowel disease. Two different pathogenic bacteria – Clostridium perfringens and Providencia – have been recovered from the autopsied dogs. A definite cause of the illnesses has not yet been determined and the source has not been discovered. No human illnesses relating to this outbreak have been reported.

OUTBREAK ALERT UPDATE: CDC reports that the Salmonella outbreak linked to backyard poultry has expanded to encompass every state except Alaska, and has grown to 1003 confirmed cases. Two people have died and 175 have required hospitalization. The outbreak includes 12 different strains of Salmonella.
