United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA advises restaurants and retailers not to serve or sell and consumers not to eat certain raw oysters from Dai One Foods Co., Ltd, Republic of Korea, due to possible sapovirus contamination. The Southern Nevada Health District notified the FDA of two clusters of illnesses from individuals that consumed raw oysters at a restaurant in Las Vegas on 10/28/2022 and 11/5/2022. 

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA reports that the Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak has increased in size to 269 cases. The source of the outbreak has not yet been determined. The CDC has not posted any information on distribution of confirmed cases across the country.

Allergy Alert: Weis Markets recalls Weis Quality Sea Salt Caramel Ripple Ice Cream (48 oz; Sell by 11/08/23; UPC 041497-01288) due to undeclared soy and coconut.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Happy Sprout Inc. (Springfield, VA) that the agency’s July 2022 inspection of the company’s sprouting operation revealed serious violations of the Standards for the Growing, Harvesting, Packing, and Holding of Produce for Human Consumption regulation.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Winfrey’s Olde English Fudge, Inc. (Rowley, MA) that the agency’s March-April 2022 inspection of the company’s manufacturing facility revealed serious violations of the Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns The Bonami Baking Company, Inc. (Pittsburg, CA) that the agency’s April 2022 inspection of the company’s food manufacturing facility revealed serious violations of the Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventative Controls for Human Food regulation.

Canada

Food Safety Recall: Hafner Canada Inc. recalls Sélection du Pâtissier brand Lemon and Poppyseed Poundcake (1.55 kg; Lot 2257; UPC 6 22267 04509 1) due to foreign matter contamination (pieces of plastic). The recalled product was sold in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Singapore): The Ministry of Health and the Singapore Food Agency are investigating two incidents of gastroenteritis affecting a total of 284 persons who reported gastroenteritis symptoms after consuming food prepared by Rasel Catering Singapore Pte Ltd between 8 and 16 November 2022. The company’s have been suspended until further notice.

United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: CDC reports an outbreak consisting of 2 cases of Listeria monocytogenes infections, both hospitalized. The cases (one each in Michigan and Nevada) have been linked to consumption of Enoki mushrooms. The outbreak strain was previously found in one sample of enoki mushrooms that FDA collected at import.

Consumer Alert (New York State): New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets warns consumers not to consume unpasteurized raw milk from the farm of Eric and Jessica Nickol due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Allergy Alert: Phil’s Power Pancake recalls all five varieties of Power Pancakes (5 oz, individually wrapped; UPC 8 37654 48372 5; All product currently on the market) due to undeclared wheat.

Allergy Alert: Fudgeamentals recalls Chocolate Fudge Bites (8 oz; Lot 22301015; UPC 840235800392) due to undeclared walnut.

Food Safety Recall: Green Day Produce, Inc. recalls Enoki Mushroom (200g/7.05oz pkg; sold from September 2022 – October 2022; Product of Korea; UPC 16430-69080) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Groupe Mounet Inc. recalls Mounet Group brand Labneh – Soft Unripened Cheese in Vegetable Oil (350g; Expiration date 2023/08/15; UPC 6 16833 53867 4) due to potential Clostridium botulinum contamination. The recalled product was sold in Québec.

Food Safety Recall: Mehadrin Milk Products Inc. recalls Lactaid brand 4% Milkfat Min. Cottage Cheese (453g; Codes OCT 24 22 to DEC 12 22; UPC 0 41383 15548 2) due to foreign matter contamination (plastic). The recalled product was sold in Québec and Ontario.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (Denmark): The outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes linked to consumption of contaminated fish cakes has grown to 10 confirmed cases, according to the latest update from Denmark’s Statens Serum Institut.
