Food Safety Recall: Pier-C Produce Inc. of Leamington, Ontario Canada recalls Pier-C 2lb white onions of Mexican origin (2 lb bags; UPC 0 33383 60051 2; Product of Mexico; Supplied by Keeler Family Farms, USA) due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recalled product was supplied to a single wholesaler and a single retailer in the state of Florida.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (SWEDEN): The Swedish Public Health Agency is investigating an outbreak of 33 cases of Salmonella Typhimurium infections scattered across seven different regions of the country. The source of the illnesses is suspected to be a food with wide distribution across the country.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: CDC reports 36 cases of Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Infantis infections in 17 states have been linked to consumption of Fratelli Beretta brand prepackaged Uncured Antipasto trays. Please refer to the recall notice, below, for additional information on the implicated products.

PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT: FDA advises the public to avoid purchasing or consuming Felix Custom Smoking branded products due to potential for Listeria monocytogenes contamination. FDA has recovered Listeria monocytogenes from environmental samples collected from food contact surfaces as part of an inspection of the production facility. The company has declined to initiate a recall of its products. Please refer to the FDA’s Public Health Alert for a complete list of affected products.
