OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: CDC reports 298 confirmed cases of Norovirus gastroenteritis linked to consumption of raw oysters from a single growing zone in Galveston Bay, Texas. Outbreak cases have been reported in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

Allergy Alert: Falcon Import and Export LLC recalls Alsultan Sweets branded Baklava (350g & 750g; Expiration dates 02/04/2023 & 01/19/2023, respectively) due to undeclared milk and wheat and recalls Alsultan Sweets branded Betefour (600g; Expiration date 02/04/2023) due to undeclared cashews, pistachios, and almonds.

Allergy Alert: Miso Brothers, Inc. dba Alpha Foods recalls various Meatless Breakfast Sandwiches and Burritos due to undeclared casein (milk protein). Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products. The recalled products were distributed nationally throughout retail stores and shipped directly to consumers who purchased our products online. 

Canada

Food Safety Recall: Venetian Meat & Salami Co. Ltd. recalls Venetian Meats brand Finocchiona Salami Sweet Fennel (2 kg; Lot 242; Expiration date 2023.AU.09) due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recalled product was sold in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario.

Europe

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (Norway, Netherlands and Sweden): Norway’s Institute of Public Health reports 72 confirmed cases of Salmonella Agona infections across the country. Twenty-four of the outbreak victims have been hospitalized. Sweden is reporting 31 cases that are part of the same outbreak and also advises that additional outbreak cases have been identified in the Netherlands. Based on patient interviews, the likely source of the outbreak appears to be cucumbers from a Spanish supplier. The implicated product is no longer available on the market.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: CDC is investigating more than 200 cases of Norovirus illnesses associated with eating raw oysters from Texas. Outbreak illnesses have been reported in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. Raw oysters implicated in the outbreak were harvested in area TX 1, Galveston Bay, Texas, and distributed to restaurants and retailers in several states.

Allergy Alert: Power Life Nutrition recalls High Impact Plant Protein (50-oz jar; Lot #0914922) due to undeclared milk.

Allergy Alert: Mountain View Packaging, LLC recalls INNOVASIAN Crispy Chicken with Almonds ENTREE (18.5 oz; Lot #22321-1; Best by 05/24/2023; UPC 695119120499) due to undeclared shrimp.

Food Safety Recall: Something South African LLC recalls Peppercorn Collection Gift Set (Batch #494951-T; Best before end JUN/2024) due to mold and Ochratoxin A contamination in the Malaysian Long Pepper.

Pet Food Safety Recall: TFP Nutrition recalls HEB Texas Pets Indoor Complete Dry Cat Food (16-lb bag; MFG 13 NOV 22) due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recalled product was only distributed in the State of Texas and sold in HEB retail stores. No cat or human illness has been reported with respect to the recalled cat food to date.

Europe

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (Denmark): The Statens Serum Institut has confirmed 11 cases of Listeria monocytogenes illnesses since mid-August 2022 linked to consumption of fish cakes. The implicated fish cakes were recalled in November.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (UK): The Food Standards Agency and Food Standards Scotland have now identified 15 cases of Listeria monocytogenes illnesses in an outbreak that stretches back to 2020, with cases in England, Scotland and Wales. Eight of the outbreak cases have been identified since January 2022. The FSA is warning consumers to avoid warning consumers specific ready-to-eat smoked fish products from Lidl linked to the outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes. United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA advises restaurants and retailers not to serve or sell and consumers not to eat certain raw oysters from Dai One Foods Co., Ltd, Republic of Korea, due to possible sapovirus contamination. The Southern Nevada Health District notified the FDA of two clusters of illnesses from individuals that consumed raw oysters at a restaurant in Las Vegas on 10/28/2022 and 11/5/2022. 

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA reports that the Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak has increased in size to 269 cases. The source of the outbreak has not yet been determined. The CDC has not posted any information on distribution of confirmed cases across the country.

Allergy Alert: Weis Markets recalls Weis Quality Sea Salt Caramel Ripple Ice Cream (48 oz; Sell by 11/08/23; UPC 041497-01288) due to undeclared soy and coconut.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Happy Sprout Inc. (Springfield, VA) that the agency’s July 2022 inspection of the company’s sprouting operation revealed serious violations of the Standards for the Growing, Harvesting, Packing, and Holding of Produce for Human Consumption regulation.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Winfrey’s Olde English Fudge, Inc. (Rowley, MA) that the agency’s March-April 2022 inspection of the company’s manufacturing facility revealed serious violations of the Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns The Bonami Baking Company, Inc. (Pittsburg, CA) that the agency’s April 2022 inspection of the company’s food manufacturing facility revealed serious violations of the Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventative Controls for Human Food regulation.

Food Safety Recall: Hafner Canada Inc. recalls Sélection du Pâtissier brand Lemon and Poppyseed Poundcake (1.55 kg; Lot 2257; UPC 6 22267 04509 1) due to foreign matter contamination (pieces of plastic). The recalled product was sold in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Singapore): The Ministry of Health and the Singapore Food Agency are investigating two incidents of gastroenteritis affecting a total of 284 persons who reported gastroenteritis symptoms after consuming food prepared by Rasel Catering Singapore Pte Ltd between 8 and 16 November 2022. The company’s have been suspended until further notice.
