The following recalled products were distributed from January 23, 2013 through February 1, 2013 to Gold Kosher (North Miami Beach, FL), Sally Sherman Salads (Ft.   • Food Safety Recall: Wegmans recalls Wegmans brand All-Purpose Bleached Flour (UPC 0 77890 22797; Best by 12/20/13), because the product may contain 7-9 mm blue polyurethane balls from the product sifting equipment. The recalled product was sold between December 24, 2012 and February 15, 2013.
  • Pet Treat Safety Recall: Kasel Associated Industries (Denver, CO) recalls ALL PRODUCTS MANUFACTURED AT ITS DENVER, COLORADO FACILITY FROM APRIL 20, 2012 THRU SEPTEMBER 19, 2012 due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recalled products were distributed nationwide through various retailers from April 20th to September 19th, 2012. Affected brand names include Boots&Barkley, BIXBI, Nature’s Deli, Colorado Naturals, Petco and Best Bully Stick.   • Health Alert (North Carolina): Mecklenburg County (NC) Health Department advises that an employee of Hooters Restaurant (7702 Gateway Lane NW, Concord, NC) and the Whiskey Warehouse (1221 The Plaza, Charlotte, NC) has been confirmed to be infected with hepatitis A virus. Patrons who ate at the Hooters location on Feb. 7th or 8th between 10:30am and 5pm, and patrons who ate or drank at the Whiskey Warehouse location on Feb 6th between 5:30pm and 7:30pm, on Feb 9th between 4:30pm and 3:30am or on Feb 13th between 7pm and 8:30pm may have been exposed to hepatitis A.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall/Outbreak Alert: Canada Safeway Limited recalls The Gourmet Meat Shoppe Big & Juicy Burger (1.13 kg; UPC 0 58200 10650 3; Best before 2013 AU 14 EST 752), The Gourmet Meat Shoppe Prime Rib Burger (907g; Best before 2013 AU 14 EST 752), and The Butcher’s Cut Pure Beef Patties (10, 20 and 40 patties; 1.13 kg, 2.27 kg & 4.45 kg, respectively; UPC 0 58200 21604 2, UPC 0 58200 21592 2 & UPC 0 58200 21594 6, respectively; Best before 2013 AU 14 EST 752), due to possible E. coli O157:H7 contamination. This recall is the result of an ongoing outbreak investigation. The recalled products were sold in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and Northwest Territories.
  • Food Recall: Cie 2 Ameriks Inc. recalls Gogo Quinoa brand Amaranth and Kaniwa Cream (400g; Code MR 2014 212KR516; UPC 8 96899 00055 5), for unspecified reasons. The recalled product was supplied to retailers in Ontario and Quebec.

Europe

  • Food Safety Recall (Sweden): ICA recalls ICA Mashed Potatoes (12-serving container, 3 x 140g; Best before 2014-08-08), because the product may contain metal particles.
  • Food Safety Recall (UK): Loch Arthur Creamery recalls Loch Arthur Creamery Criffel full fat semi-soft unpasteurized cheese (Production dates 7 January 2013 and 9 January 2013), because the cheese contains high levels of Listeria monocytogenes. This is an expansion of an earlier recall.
  • Food Fraud Recall (Czech Republic): Tesco recalls Nowaco Lasagne Bolognese, frozen (400g pkg; Best before 24. 2. 2014; Batch code 24/02/14 240/12 8:30; Country of Origin Luxembourg) and Nowaco Lasagne Bolognese, frozen (400g pkg; Best before 18.10.2013; Batch code 18/10/13 111/12 17:03; Country of Origin Luxembourg) because the products were found to contain horse DNA.
  • Food Safety/Outbreak Notification Update (EU #2013.0191): Shigatoxin-producing Escherichia coli O157:H7 in frozen hamburgers from Sweden, with raw materials from the Netherlands; distributed to Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2013.0211 & 2013.0216): Salmonella in paan leaves from India; distributed to the United Kingdom.
  • Food Fraud Notification (EU #2013.0212): Suspicion of fraud (unlabeled horse meat) in relation to beef tortelloni from Germany; distributed to Austria and Switzerland.
  • Food Fraud Notification (EU #2013.0213): Suspicion of fraud (equine DNA) in relation to meat ravioli, meat tortellini with raw material from Brazil, Belgium and Germany; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2013.0214): Omethoate and unauthorized dinotefuran in yard long beans from Jordan; distributed to Switzerland.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2013.0215): Methamidophos, acephate, profenofos and tetramethrin in green chillies from Sri Lanka; distributed to Switzerland.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2013.0218): Excessive Escherichia coli in fresh basil leaves from Vietnam; distributed to Norway.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2013.0219): Histamine in chilled tuna fillets from Spain; distributed to Italy.

  • Pet Food Safety Recall: Kaytee Products recalls various bird treats and greens items due to possible contamination of Salmonella from parsley flake ingredients supplied to Kaytee by Specialty Commodities, Inc.   • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Stonington Sea Products, LLC that a January 2013 inspection of the company’s seafood processing facility found serious violations of the seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulation, and  the Current Good Manufacturing Practice regulation for foods.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Arizona Hydroponic Farming, LLC (Eloy, AZ) that September-October 2012 inspections of the company’s sprout growing facility found insanitary conditions and practices. Samples of finished alfalfa sprouts and spent irrigation water taken during the inspection ending September 20, 2012 yielded Salmonella Cubana.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Beehive Botanicals, Inc. (Hayward, WI) that a July 2012 inspection of the company’s dietary supplement manufacturing plant found a number of significant violations of the Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) regulation for dietary supplements.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Warren Farms, LLP (Union Grove, AL) that an August 2012 inspection of the company’s shell egg production facility found serious violations of the Prevention of Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) in Shell Eggs During Production, Storage, and Transportation regulation.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Wholistic Herbs, Inc. (Dallas, TX) that a December 2011 through January 2012 inspection of the company’s facility found significant violations of FDA’s Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) regulations for dietary supplements.

  • Allergy Alert: Super Marché A. Chauvin ltée (Montreal, QC) recalls Marché Famille Chauvin brand Poulet Cuit B.B.Q./B.B.Q Chicken (sold up to and including 19 February 2013) due to undeclared soy.
  • Allergy Alert: Unique Wonton Ltd. recalls various wonton, filled bun, dumpling and other products sold under the Unique Wonton, Yum Yum Food and Yang.SK Foods Ltd. brands, due to undeclared milk and/or egg.   • Food Recall (Israel): Tempo Beverages Company Ltd. recalls Low Calorie Malt Beverage (1.5 liter bottles; Production code L3027, from 13:48 to 14:40 only; Best before 29.07.2013), because the drink contains sugar and is, therefore, mislabeled.
  • OTC Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (Hong Kong): Loyal Advance Limited recalls Fensinemix Cough Syrup (Batch AAC18B), due to a labelling error. Some bottles (but not the outer boxes) were wrongly labeled as Ammocol Cough Syrup.

  • Allergy Alert: DeCoty Coffee Company (San Angelo, TX) recalls DeCoty Taco Seasoning (1.25 lb and 5.75 lb plastic spice containers; Item codes 71400 & 71410; Lot #010111-021313, inclusive) due to undeclared soy. The recalled products were distributed in Texas by DeCoty sales personnel and sold nationally on line.
  • Allergy Alert: The Muffin “Mam”, Inc.™ (Simpsonville, SC) recalls The Muffin “Mam”, Inc.™ brand Strawberry Crème Cake (24 oz; UPC 7-60366-00986-3; All lot codes) due to undeclared eggs. The recalled item was sold from March 19, 2011 to January 22, 2013 in the in-store Bakery area of retail stores in West Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Pennsylvania.
  • Food Safety Recall: Kellogg’s recalls Special K Red Berries Cereal (11.2 oz; UPC 3800059923; Expiry DEC 02 2013; Lot codes begin with 1,2,or 3 followed by KNC 105 00:13 to 02:30) because the product many contain glass fragments, likely from a single batch of one ingredient. The recalled product was sold in Schnucks, Logli and Hilander stores and may also have been supplied to other retailers.
  • Pet Food Safety Recall: Nature’s Variety recalls Instinct® Raw Organic Chicken Formula for Dogs and Cats (3-lb bags of medallions; 27-lb cases of medallions, 6-lb bags of patties, 36-lb cases of patties; UPC 7 69949 60137 1, 7 69949 70137 8, 7 69949 60127 2 and 7 69949 70127 9; Best if Used By 10/04/13), because pieces of clear plastic may be found in some bags and could present a choking risk to pets. The source of the plastic has been identified and corrected.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall: Reumofan Plus USA, LLC and Reumofan USA, LLC recall Reumofan Plus Tablets (30 tablets/container; Lot #99515; Exp. 09/16), because they contain the undeclared active pharmaceutical ingredients methocarbamol, dexamethasone and diclofenac. Use of this product could result in serious and life-threatening injuries. One illness has been reported. The recalled product was distributed nationwide through internet sales.
  • Outbreak Alert: Alaska Public Health warns the public of a recent and potentially ongoing outbreak of Campylobacter infections associated with consuming raw milk. Six cases  of Campylobacter have been reported on the Kenai Peninsula since late January 2013. Four confirmed and one probable case-patient reported consuming unpasteurized milk in the few days before becoming ill; the sixth probable case-patient is an infant with close contact to one of the four confirmed patients. The outbreak strain has not previously been identified in Alaska.

  • Allergy Alert: Terra International Food Inc. recalls Rising Sun Farms brand Pomegranate Balsamic Dressing (354 mL; UPC 0 18646 00069 8; All codes) Lemon Thyme Balsamic Dressing (354 mL; UPC 0 18646 00068 1; All codes), Fig Balsamic Dressing (354 mL; UPC 0 18646 00067 4; All codes) and Raspberry Balsamic Dressing (354 mL; UPC 0 18646 00070 4; All codes) due to undeclared sulphites. The recalled products were supplied to retailers in Alberta, British Columbia and Manitoba.

  • Food Safety Recall/Outbreak Alert (Sweden): Sven P. Matkompaniet AB recalls Sven P. brand Kebab (400g; Article 6052; Produced 1/10 to 5/10 2012; Batch numbers beginning with 40 and Batch #41-02), Hamburger (90gr; Article 9090; Produced 1/10 to 5/10 2012; Batch numbers beginning with 40), Hamburger (150g; Article 9150; Produced 1/10 to 5/10 2012; Batch numbers beginning with 40 and Batch #41-09), Hamburger (200g; Article 9200; Produced 1/10 to 5/10 2012; Batch numbers beginning with 40), Kebab flam (Article 6032; Produced 1/10 to 5/10 2012; Batch numbers beginning with 40 and Batch #41-02), Kebabspett (Article 6015; Produced 1/10 to 5/10 2012; Batch numbers beginning with 40) and Lövstek (Article 6110; Produced 5/10 2012; Batch 10), due to potential Enterohemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC) contamination. The Local (Sweden’s English language news) reports that two children fell ill in eastern Sweden in January after eating the meat, which was distributed by Sven P in Stockholm, but originated at a slaughterhouse in the Netherlands.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2013.0187 & 2013.0188): Phenylbutazone in chilled horse meat from the United Kingdom; distributed to France.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2013.0189): Carbendazim in rambutan from Vietnam; distributed to Belgium.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2013.0190): Mercury in frozen swordfish manufactured in Italy, with raw material from Indonesia; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2013.0192): Norovirus in chilled clams from Turkey; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2013.0193): Salmonella in frozen turkey and poultry kebab from Germany, via Poland; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Fraud Notification (EU #2013.0194): Adulteration with horse meat of frozen beef burgers from Ireland; distributed to France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2013.0195): Norovirus in chilled giant capped oysters from France; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Fraud Notification Update (EU #2013.0166): Suspicion of fraud in relation to frozen beef lasagne from France, processed in Luxembourg, with raw material from Romania, via the Netherlands; distributed to Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

  • Outbreak Alert (India): The Times of India reports an outbreak of food poisoning affecting 400 or more people, including children, in North Dimoria block of Kamrup (Metro).
