United States

OUTBREAK ALERT: CDC reports 10 confirmed cases of Listeria monocytogenes infections in three states. All ten outbreak victims were hospitalized, and one person in Florida has died. The outbreak is linked Italian-style meats, such as salami, mortadella, and prosciutto. The deli meats were purchased prepackaged and sliced at deli counters. CDC is investigating to determine if there is a specific type of deli meat or common supplier linked to illness.

INDICTMENT: Paul Kruse, President of Blue Bell Creameries was indicted by a Texas grand jury with wire fraud and conspiracy in connection with an alleged scheme to cover up the company’s sales of Listeria-tainted ice cream in 2015, according to the US Justice Department.

Allergy Alert: Orca Bay Foods LLC recalls Trader Joe’s brand Gluten Free Battered Halibut (10-oz. box; Lot #537312620; Best if used by Nov 5, 2021; SKU 00503822) due to undeclared wheat and milk.
