United States

  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Stagnaro Bros. Seafood, Inc. (Santa Cruz, CA) that a June 2012 inspection of the company’s seafood processing facility found serious violations of the seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulation.
  • FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Wild About Food – Oklahoma, LLC (Moore, OK) that a March/April 2012 inspection of the company’s seafood processing facility found serious violations of the seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulation and the Current Good Manufacturing Practice regulation for foods.

Europe

  • Allergy Alert (Ireland): Musgrave Retail Partners Ireland withdraws Centra Chocolate Chip Cookies (150g; All batch codes; All best before dates), due to inconsistent wheat, milk and egg labeling on the packages. Wheat, milk and eggs are declared in the ingredient list; however gluten, wheat, milk and egg are not declared on the allergy warning panel of the label.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.1264): DDT in organic sesame seeds from India; distributed to Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands and Poland.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Food Safety Alert (Hong Kong): The Centre for Food Safety alerts parents to refrain from feeding their babies with the following infant formula, imported from New Zealand, which was found to have a low iodine content: WIOM Infant Formula Stage 1 – From Birth to 6 months (900g; Manufactured by WISDOM Dairy (NZ) Ltd.; Use by date May 24, 2013; Batch #43862).
  • Outbreak Alert (UAE): A two-year-old Egyptian girl has died of food poisoning after eating packed crisps, juice and sweets purchased from local shops and a mall in the Emirate, according to MSN News, Arabia. The toddler suffered from severe stomach pains, vomiting and diarrhea. Her brother also was affected, and remains in hospital in stable condition.

United States

  • Allergy Alert: Somersault Snack Co., LLC recalls Somersaults Pacific Sea Salt (6 oz pkg; Sell by MAR1113 G6; UPC 8-98403-00201-7), because the product may contain undeclared milk.
  • Food Safety Recall: Ready Pac Foods, Inc. (Irwindale, CA) recalls Dining In®, Ready Pac®, Starbucks®, Walmart® and Wawa® brands of packaged fruit products containing mangos distributed through August 30, 2012, because the products contain Daniella Brand mangos and may be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup. Please refer to the recall notice for a detailed list of products, use-by dates, and the states to which each of the products was distributed.
  • Food Safety Recall: Trader Joe’s recalls Trader Joe’s Tropical Fruit Medley (SKU 94936; Best by dates on or before 8/28/12), because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup. The affected product was sold in Trader Joe’s Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Northern Virginia stores.
  • Food Safety Recall: F&S Produce Co. Inc. (Rosenhayn, NJ) recalls certain Delish!, Garden Highway, Garden Pure, Signature Café, Trader Joe’s and Generic Label expired products that contain fresh-cut mangos (code date on or before August 28, 2012), because the products contain Daniella Brand mangos and may be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup. The Signature Café product was sold at Safeway and Genuardi’s; the Generic Label was sold at Walmart stores in Florida. Please refer to the recall notice for a detailed list of recalled products.
  • Food Safety Recall: Manna Organics, Inc. (Newark, NJ) recalls various soybean sprouts and tofu products, because the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products were distributed to various restaurants, retailers, and distributors in NY, NJ, PA, MA, VA, MD, CT, GA, IL, and TX on or after July 17, 2012. Please refer to the recall notice for a detailed list of affected products. The company has suspended production while the source of the contamination is investigated.
  • Food Safety Recall: Lowes Foods recalls Lowes Foods Toaster Pastry Choc Fudge  (11 oz; UPC 741643-02111; Lot code 28 OCT12F32), due to reports of mold.
  • Food Safety Recall/Outbreak Alert – Mangos: Please refer to Salmonella Braenderup – Mango for current information on US retail distribution of recalled Daniella brand mangos and other products that contain these mangos.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall: Continental Strictly Kosher Meat, Poultry & Delicatessen Products (Est. 29; Ville Mont-Royal, QC) recalls Glatt’s brand Lean Ground Veal, Lean Ground Beef, Medium Ground Beef, and Medium Ground Beef Club Pack (Pack date 27 août 12; Lot code 22812), due to possible contamination with E. coli O157:H7. The recalled products were sold at IGA #8111 (5800 Cavendish Boulevard, Côte Saint-Luc, QC), Kosher Quality Bakery (5855 Victoria Ave., Montreal, QC), IGA #108 (7151 Chemin de la Côte Saint-Luc, Côte Saint-Luc, QC), Alimentation Marcel Picard (13057 Gouin Boulevard, Pierrefonds, Montreal, QC) and IGA #8522 (4885 Avenue Van Horne, Montreal, QC).
  • Food Safety Recall: Canada Safeway Ltd. recalls Fruit Tray Bien Fruit Blend (907g; UPC 0 77745 23415 1; All Best Before dates) and Super Fruit Medley Fruit Blend (298g; UPC 0 77745 24023 7; All Best Before dates), because the product, which were manufactured in the USA by Ready Pac, may be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup. The recalled products were distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, and also may have been distributed in other provinces and territories.

Europe

  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Inco Copenhagen Cash & Carry recalls Xavier David Petit Bleu Blue Cheese (250g; Product of France; Best before 26/8-2012 and 4/9-2012; Lot #199211), after German authorities reported detecting Listeria in a sample of the product.
  • Food Safety Recall (Germany): HMF Food Production GmbH & Co recalls Frozen Pangasius Fillets (500g; Best before 01.04.2014; Batch/lot ID VN/489/VI/282 and VN/489/VI/283), due to improper packaging and an incorrect expiration date.
  • Food Supplement Safety Notification (EU #2012.1262): Arsenic and lead in food supplement from the Netherlands; distributed to the United Kingdom.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.1263): Suspected histamine poisoning caused by tuna in olive oil from Colombia; distributed to the Czech Republic and Italy.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Outbreak Alert (Hong Kong): The Centre for Health Protection is investigating an outbreak of acute gastroenteritis at a rehab centre in Yuen Long District involving 17 residents or attendees and 6 staff members.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Allergy Alert: Australian Vintage Limited recalls McGuigan Black Label 20th Anniversary Reserve 2011 Chiraz Cabernet Sauvignon (750ml glass bottle) due to the presence of undeclared sulphur dioxide 220. The recalled product was sold at independent retail liquor stores in NSW, SA, WA, QLD, VIC and the ACT.

  • Animal Feed Safety Recall: Quality Feed, Inc. (Dousman, WI) recalls Quality Feed, Inc., Dairy Princess, Peachey’s, and Yo-momma brands of Milk Replacer (Shipped between January 31, 2012 and March 31, 2012; Lot numbers ending in 0131 through 0323), because Quality Feed was just notified by one of its suppliers that six 40-lb bags purchased in January 2012 may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recall milk replacer was distributed throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York.
  • Food Safety Recall: Winn-Dixie recalls Garden Highway Tropical Salsa (11 oz; UPC 82676642210; Sell by 8/31/12 & 9/1/12), Fruit Burst Cut Fruit (16 oz & 24 oz; UPC 2114001701 & 2114001707; Sell by 8/31/12 & 8/31/12) and Island Medley Cut Fruit (16 oz; UPC 2114001696; Sell by 8/30/12 & 8/31/12), because they contain a mango ingredient that may be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup. The recalled products were manufactured by Renaissance Food Group and sold in central and south Florida Winn-Dixie stores in the following counties: Brevard, Broward, Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Flagler, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lake, Lee, Manatee, Marion, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Saint Lucie, Sarasota, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia.
  • Food Safety Recall: Triple B Corporation Seattle, WA dba Real Foods Kent WA and Charlie’s Produce Anchorage, Alaska recall several cut fruit products sold under the Haggen, Costco, Metropolitan Market, Charlie’s and Alaska Carrot labels, because the products contain Daniella brand mangos that were recalled due to Salmonella Braenderup.   • Food Safety Recall: Pacific Coast Fruit Company (Portland, OR) recalls VA Kit New Gourmet Fruit Salad (7.75#; UPC 20728 70006; Best if used by July 26 to August 30) and Mango & Cucumber Salsa (UPC 20728 71784; Best if Used by July 30 to September 3), because the deli-style salads contain mangos that may be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup. The recalled salads were packed in 6 lb to 8 lb salads bags and distributed to various retail groceries in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Alaska.
  • Food Safety Recall: Taylor Farms New Jersey recalls Wawa Mango and Yogurt Parfait (7.5 oz; Julian code 236 or earlier; Sell by 9/03/12 or earlier) and various other Wawa brand products containing Mango (Julian code 237 or earlier; Sell by Date 8/30/12 or earlier), because  the products may be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup. Please refer to the recall notice for a detailed list of affected products, which were distributed to Wawa retail stores in New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall Update: North American Produce Sales (Vancouver, BC) expands its earlier recall of Daniella brand Mangos to include all Daniella brand Mangos bearing PLU #4959 that were sold at various retail stores between July 12 and August 31, 2012. The recalled mangos, which have been associated with 21 cases of Salmonella Braenderup infections in British Columbia and Alberta, were distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon.
  • Food Safety Recall: M.L. Catania Co. Ltd. (Toronto, ON) recalls Daniella brand Mango packed by M.L. Catania Co. Ltd (6-pack plastic clamshell pkg; UPC 0 61968 61603 0; all Pack dates from 12 JL 19 to 12 AU 21), because the mangos may be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup. The recalled mangoes may not still carry the original Daniella brand sticker; they were distributed in Newfoundland and Ontario, and may also have been distributed in other provinces.
