United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA, CDC and the Southern Nevada Health District are investigating an outbreak of five cases of non-viral hepatitis reported in Nevada. The cases appear to be linked to consumption of Real Water brand alkaline water manufactured by Real Water Inc., of Mesa, Arizona. FDA is urging the public not to drink, cook with, sell, or serve “Real Water” alkaline water.

OUTBREAK ALERT: CDC and FSIS are investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Hadar infections that may be linked to consumption of a turkey product. A specific source of the outbreak has not yet been identified.

Public Health Alert: FSIS (USDA) issues a public health alert for products produced without the benefit of federal inspection by One Meat Corp., doing business as Eastern Asia Trading Corporation, a La Puente, Calif. firm. Please refer to the FSIS notice for a complete list of affected products.

Allergy Alert: MINDO CHOCOLATE MAKERS recalls Coffee Toffee Chocolate Bar (75g / 2.65 oz; Lots 190310 through 210310) due to undeclared milk.

Allergy Alert: Western Mixers Produce & Nut Company recalls Gelson’s Yogurt Raisins (14 oz; Lot #210330; Sell by  02/02/22) due to undeclared peanuts.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: PHAC reports that the outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis infections linked to shell eggs has now increased to a total of 64 cases in Newfoundland and Labrador (26), and Nova Scotia (38). Nineteen people have been hospitalized.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (SWEDEN): The Swedish Public Health Agency reports that the outbreak of Yersinia enterocolitica that infected 53 individuals during January and February of this year has ended. Based on case comparison studies, it is believed that the outbreak was due to contaminated iceberg lettuce that was distributed to a single restaurant chain.

United States

OUTBREAK ALERT: The Connecticut Department of Public Health warns consumers, restaurants, and retailers in Connecticut not to eat, serve or sell El Abuelito Queso Fresco cheese due to laboratory findings that detected Listeria monocytogenes in samples collected from a Connecticut retail food store. The samples were collected as part of an investigation of a multi-state outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes illnesses. One of the outbreak victims reported having eaten this brand of cheese. Additional lab tests are underway to determine whether the L. monocytogenes recovered from the cheese sample is a genetic match for the outbreak strain. The CDC reports a total of seven confirmed cases of listeriosis; all seven outbreak victims have been hospitalized. The FDA and its state partners are working with the company to recall the contaminated batch of cheese.
