Outbreak/Illness Investigations

ITALY: Two are dead and nine others hospitalized in an outbreak of botulism in Calabria. The outbreak is suspected to be linked to broccoli in oil used in sandwiches sold from a street vending van.

RUSSIAN FEDERATION: As of 07 Aug 2025, five human brucellosis cases, including three adults and two children, have been reported in the Volgograd region. Consumers are advised to avoid purchasing meat and dairy products from unauthorized markets, and products from private producers should be thoroughly heat-treated before consumption.

Public Health Alert: FDA advises restaurants and retailers not to serve or sell and consumers not to eat certain frozen, raw, half-shell oysters from Republic of Korea potentially contaminated with Norovirus

OUTBREAK ALERT: CDC alerts consumers to potential exposures to a drug-resistant Brucella strain RB51 (RB51) in 19 states, connected to consuming raw (unpasteurized) milk from Miller’s Biodiversity Farm in Quarryville, Pennsylvania. One case of RB51 infection (brucellosis) has been confirmed in New York.

Allergy Alert: Birdseed Food Co. recalls Craft Granola Goldenola Turmeric & Ginger (11oz and 3oz pkgs; All expiration dates up to and including 061419) due to undeclared cashews.

Allergy Alert: Don Paco Lopez Panaderia Inc. recalls Sweet Bread (16-oz packages; all batches and dates) due to undeclared milk. The recalled products were distributed in New York State.
