ITALY: Two are dead and nine others hospitalized in an outbreak of botulism in Calabria. The outbreak is suspected to be linked to broccoli in oil used in sandwiches sold from a street vending van.

RUSSIAN FEDERATION: As of 07 Aug 2025, five human brucellosis cases, including three adults and two children, have been reported in the Volgograd region. Consumers are advised to avoid purchasing meat and dairy products from unauthorized markets, and products from private producers should be thoroughly heat-treated before consumption.

Allergy Alert: Neuhaus Chocolates NV recalls Belgian Chocolate Moments Smurfs ‘Popping Milk Chocolates with Cookies (Batch nos. 80108690 & 80108763; Best before 13/01/2026) due to undeclared wheat.

Public Health Alert: FDA advises restaurants and retailers not to serve or sell and consumers not to eat certain frozen, raw, half-shell oysters from Republic of Korea potentially contaminated with Norovirus

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

ITALY: The Italian Ministry of Health has issued an urgent recall for METRO Chef brand Polpa di Avocado / Avocado pulp following an outbreak of eleven cases of botulism in Sardinia. The cases were all linked to eating food from the same street food vendor during the Fiesta Latina event in Monserrato. An 11-year-old boy was transferred to Gemelli Hospital in Rome and is currently intubated and sedated in the pediatric ICU.

USA (Florida): Florida Department of Health is investigating an outbreak of Campylobacter and E. coli infections linked to unpasteurized, raw milk, according to a report by Food Safety News. Seven people have been hospitalized. The farm supplying the raw milk was not identified.

Allergy Alert: Hans Kissle recalls Hans Kissle Red Potato Bliss Salad (16 oz; Use by 8/20/25; UPC 036217673706) due to undeclared wheat.
