United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: Two multistate outbreaks of E. coli O157:H7 infections are now over, with neither FDA nor CDC having managed to definitively determine their sources. The first of the outbreaks comprised 32 infections, including 15 hospitalizations and one death, in 12 states. The second outbreak was responsible for 18 illnesses, including 6 hospitalizations, in 9 states. A third outbreak, also with no source identified, is ongoing.

Consumer Safety Advisory: FDA is advising consumers to not drink Green Gorilla Root Juice sold by Green Gorilla Root Juice, LLC in St. Louis, Missouri, because the product contains yohimbine, a potentially harmful ingredient.

Public Health Alert: FSIS issues a public health alert for raw frozen New Orleans -Roasted Chicken Wings products imported and labeled with a false USDA mark of inspection. A recall was not requested because the known affected product is no longer available in commerce for consumers to purchase. Please refer to the Alert for complete details on the affected product.

Allergy Alert: O&H Danish Bakery, Inc. recalls Almond Kringle (1lb 8oz; Batch code 26720) due to undecalred pecans. The recalled product was sold in Trader Joe’s stores located in Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, Colorado, Kansas, Arkansas and Alabama.

Allergy Alert: FSIS advises consumers allergic to milk to avoid Country Meats HOT BBQ Flavor Smoked Pork Snack Sticks In Colored Casing Smoke Flavoring Added (1 oz; Best by 11/06/2021) due to undeclared milk.

Food Safety Recall: Perfect Pasta Inc. recalls an undetermined amount of heat-treated not shelf stable frozen meat and poultry products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Food Safety Recall: Nestlé Prepared Foods recalls LEAN CUISINE Baked Chicken, white meat chicken with stuffing, red skin mashed potatoes and gravy (8 5/8-oz. / 244g; Lot #0246595911; Best before October 2021) due to possible foreign matter (pieces of white hard plastic) contamination.

Allergy Alert: Madame Labriski recalls BÛCHE de Noël – LA BOMBA ROSA (850g; Sold up to and including 16 december 2020) due to undeclared soy, eggs, milk, sesame, nuts and peanuts.

OUTBREAK ALERT (North Carolina): Cabarrus Health Alliance and Harris Teeter are investigating more than 150 reports of gastrointestinal illness linked to consumption of sushi purchased from free-standing AFC Sushi kiosks inside two Harris Teeter stores in Concord, North Carolina, according to a report in Food Safety News. The cause of the illnesses has not yet been determined.

Food Safety Recall: Tesoros Trading Co. recalls Trader Joe’s Lightly Salted Edamame, frozen (16 oz pkg; Lots 22LA102 M, 22LA102 N or 22LA102 P) due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Pet Food Safety Recall: PetSmart Inc. recalls Authority Savory Blends Turkey Formula Cat Food, Adult Ages 1-7 (3.5 lb & 7 lb bags; UPC 7 37257 83105 & 7 37257 85016 7, respectively; All lot codes; nationwide distribution) due to elevated levels of mycotoxin (Zearalenone). The recall was initiated on November 11, 2020. No public recall notice was released.

Food Safety Recall: Cozy Vale Creamery is advising consumers to discontinue consumption of their retail raw milk and cream products with the best by dates of 12-14 through 12-23 after the Washington State Department of Agriculture found shigatoxin-producing E. coli in a sample of retail raw cream dated 12-14. Consumers shouild dispose of or return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Allergy Alert: L’Hippie-Curienne recalls four varieties of Assaisonnement à tartare / Tartar seasoning (125g; Best before NOV 2022) due to undeclared soy. Please refer to the recall notice for a list of affected varieties.
