United States

  • Allergy Alert: Completely Fresh Foods Inc. (Montebello, CA) recalls approximately 131,000 pounds of Trader Joe’s Pizza Al Pollo Asado, 10-oz. pkg (Produced on various dates between jan 27, 2011 and March 27, 2011), due to the presence of undeclared wheat. The recalled pizza products were supplied to Trader Joe’s stores nationwide.
  • Food Safety Recall: Nutrition Express (Torrance, CA) recalls specific products containing whey protein isolate from one supplier, because the products may be contaminated with Salmonella. Please see the recall notice for details.
  • Food Safety Recall: The Smokehouse LLC (Mamaroneck, NY) recalls PORTIER FINE FOODS Norwegian Smoked Salmon (various size packages; Batch Code 066) due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled Smoked Salmon was distributed and sold on March 7, 2011 to retailers in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
  • Food Safety Recall (Ohio): Pettisville Meats Inc. (Est 1240; Pettisville, OH) recalls various meat and poultry products that were produced without the benefit of state inspection and were sold prior at various carry-out and food service establishments in Ohio.   • Food Safety Recall: Price Chopper recalls Price Chopper Homestyle Regular Potato Salad (UPC 26716700000), due to possible contamination with Listeria.
  • Food Recall/Withdrawal: Food City announces the recall/withdrawal of Food Club Frozen Onion Rings and of Valu Time RTS Milk Chocolate Frosting. No details have been provided.
  • Parenteral Nutrition Product Safety Recall/Investigation: Meds IV recalls all of its intravenous (IV) compounded products. Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) products produced by Meds IV have been identified as a potential common source for 19 cases of Serratia marcescens bacteremia reported in six Alabama hospitals.

Canada

  • Allergy Alert: Quality Natural Foods Ltd. recalls Quality brand Freshly Minced Ginger Garlic, Freshly Minced Garlic, and Freshly Minced Ginger (Lot Codes L-210610, L-230910 and L-120410) due to the presence of undeclared sulphites. The recalled products were distributed in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec.

Europe

  • Food Safety Recall (Ireland): Burren Smokehouse Ltd. recalls Burren Smokehouse Smoked Salmon (1kg, 500g, 300g, 200g and 100g packs; Batch code 1018X; Use by 15/04/2011), due to the presence of low levels of Listeria monocytogenes. This is in addition to an earlier recall.
  • Food Safety Recall (UK): Premier Foods recalls Fray Bentos ‘Boozy’ Steak & Ale Pie, 475g (Batch code 1003 & 1004; Best before end January 2013) and Fray Bentos Steak & Onion Pie, 425g (Batch code 1004; Best before end January 2013), because the canned pies may contain small pieces of glass.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Allergy Alert (New Zealand): Lindt and Sprüngli recalls various Lindt chocolate easter eggs (Product of USA; Best before 30 JUN 11) due to the presence of undeclared peanuts. The 16g Easter Eggs are foil-wrapped and available in various package sizes and formats. The recalled confectionery products were sold in supermarkets and retail outlets nationwide.

  • Allergy Alert: Mai’s Bakery, Inc. (Monterey Park, CA) recalls Hopia Mongo and Moon Cake products, because they may contain undeclared egg. The recalled products were distributed in supermarkets in Southern California and Utah. Please see the recall notice for a detailed list of recalled products.
  • Food Safety Recall: Circle City Marketing and Distributing (d.b.a. Candy Dynamics, Indianapolis, IN) recalls Toxic Waste® Short Circuits™ Bubble Gum (3.2 oz; Lot #15070SC12; Product of Pakistan), because the product contains lead in excess of permitted levels. The recalled product was distributed nationwide in the USA in retail stores and through mail orders.
  • Food Safety Alert/Recall: DeFusco’s Bakery recalls baked goods, including zeppoles, which have been linked to a Salmonella outbreak in Rhode Island. At least 25 people are known to be affected throughout the state 10 people have been hospitalized. De Fusco sold zeppoles to American Bakery Supplies for further distribution.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall: Greenstone LLC recalls medicines labeled with Lot #FI0510058-A, including Citalopram 10mg Tablets and Finasteride 5mg Tablets, due to the possibility that incorrect labels were placed on the bottles by a third-party manufacturer.
  • OTC Pharmaceutical Product Safety Alert: FDA warns consumers to stop using Soladek, a vitamin-solution product marketed by Indo Pharma, S.A. of the Dominican Republic, because the product may contain dangerously high levels of vitamin A and vitamin D. Soladek cannot currently be marketed legally in the USA; however reports of adverse reactions and other information leads FDA to conclude that Soladek may be available illegally in the USA.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall: Circle City Marketing and Distributing (d.b.a. Candy Dynamics, Indianapolis, IN) recalls Toxic Waste® Short Circuits™ Bubble Gum (3.2 oz; Lot #15070SC12; Product of Pakistan), because the product contains lead in excess of permitted levels. The recalled product was distributed to a limited extent in Canada.

Europe

  • Food Safety Recall (Belgium): Vajra recalls 500g bags and 5Kg sacks of corn flour (Best before 18/10/2011: Lot 08.10/COM/040211 & 0810/COM/150311 (500g) and Lot 0909/CO/150311 (5Kg)), due to elevated levels of fumonisine B1 and B2.
  • Food Safety Recall (Switzerland): Circle City Marketing and Distributing(d.b.a. Candy Dynamics, Indianapolis, IN) recalls Toxic Waste® Short Circuits™ Bubble Gum (3.2 oz; Lot #15070SC12; Product of Pakistan), because the product contains lead in excess of permitted levels. The recalled product was distributed to a limited extent in Switzerland.
  • Cosmetic Product Safety Recall (France): The distributor recalls BHOME Produit de Soin Capillaire ”Traitement Capillaire Brésilien à domicile” (Brazilian hair treatment kit for home use), due to the presence of elevated levels of formaldehyde.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Food Safety Alert (Hong Kong): The Centre for Food Safety has prohibited the import of milk, milk beverages, dried milk, vegetables, fruits, chilled or frozen game, meat and poultry, poultry eggs, and live, chilled or frozen aquatic products — harvested, manufactured, processed or packed on or after March 11 from Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma and Chiba prefectures in Japan.
  • Food Safety Alert (Singapore): The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore extends its suspension on the import of fruits and vegetables to include the prefectures of Kanagawa, Tokyo and Saitama. This means the entire Kanto Region of Japan is now suspended from exporting fruits and vegetables to Singapore.

  • Allergy Alert: Unified Grocers recalls one date code (Mar 26) of Cottage Hearth Stone Ground Wheat Bread (24 oz) and 7 Select 100% Whole Wheat Bread (24 oz) because they may contain undeclared milk. Cottage Hearth breads are distributed by Unified Grocers and other distributors to select independently-owned and operated retail grocery stores in Southern California and Arizona. 7 Select breads are distributed by Unified Grocers to select 7-Eleven locations throughout Los Angeles and San Diego counties.
  • Allergy Alert: Seoul Shik Poom Inc. (Englewood, NJ) recalls Red Bean Bread (3-pack/2.82 oz.; Code #ES1120; Expiration dates of 08/15/2011, 09/30/2011, and 04/15/2012) due to the presence of undeclared eggs.
  • Allergy Alert (Update): USDA releases updated retail distribution list for Kashi Southwest Style Chicken Products, which were recalled by the manufacturer due to the presence of undeclared egg.
  • Food Safety Recall (Update): California Department of Public Health releases retail distribution list identifying the Costco locations that were supplied with cantaloupes recalled by Del Monte Fresh Produce N.A., Inc. The recalled cantaloupes have been linked to at least 12 cases of Salmonella Panama infections in four US states, including two cases in California.
  • Food Safety Recall (Update): USDA releases retail distribution list for Seltzer’s Beef Lebanon Bologna that was recalled by Palmyra Bologna Company, Inc. due to contamination with E. coli O157:H7. The recalled Lebanon Bologna has been linked to at least 14 cases of E. coli O157:H7 illness in 5 US states. The contaminated meat was sold in Walmart stores (Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania), BJ’s Wholesale Club stores (New Jersey, Pennsylvania and North Carolina), Fry’s,  Ralphs, Giant Eagle, and Giant stores.
  • Food Safety Recall: Thai Golden Spice Inc. (Hayward, CA) recalls HANS BRAND Santra Candy, due to unacceptable levels of lead.
  • Dietary Supplement Safety Recall: USA Far Ocean Group Inc. (Alhambra, CA) recalls U-Prosta Natural Support for Prostate Health Dietary Supplement after FDA finds the prescription drug terazosin in samples of the product. The recalled product was distributed nationwide via retail stores, internet sales and mail order.
  • Dietary Supplement Safety Recall: Shaping Beauty, Inc. (Southampton, PA) recalls Celerite™ Slimming Tea after FDA finds the prescription drug Sibutramine in a sample of the product. The products listed above were sold and distributed nationwide via the internet at http://www.shapingbeauty.com
  • Food Recall: Price Chopper recalls Price Chopper Granola Bars (strawberry and mixed berry varieties), due to a high moisture content, which could promote mold growth.
  • Food Recall: Food City recalls Assorted Food Club Fruit & Grain Cereal Bars.

Canada

  • Allergy Alert: Canadian Food Inspection Agency warns the public that certain Chocolatey Chocolate flavour Raw Organic Food Bars have been recalled due to the presence of undeclared peanuts. The affected products are known to have been distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Quebec and Ontario, and may be distributed nationally. One allergic reaction has been reported.
  • Allergy Alert: Marché Asselin (Montréal, QC) recalls Salmon Pâté and Tourtière Maison, due to the presence of undeclared egg and sulfites.
  • Allergy Alert: Distribution Yvan Nadeau inc. recalls several products due to the presence of undeclared mustard, milk, egg, and/or sulfites.
  • Food Safety Recall: Metro Plus (Saint-Jérôme, QC) recalls SU CRETONS VRAC (Best before 27 March 2011), due to contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

Europe

  • Allergy Alert (Ireland): Food Safety Authority of Ireland warns consumers that Caffreys Easter Eggs (Covered Mallow Eggs) sold loose from display box contain egg that is not stated on the product label.
  • Food Safety Recall (Ireland): Burren Smokehouse Ltd. recalls Burren Smokehouse Smoked Salmon, whole sides, 500g, 200g and 100g packs (Batch code 1010x; Use by 31/3/11), due to the presence of low levels of Listeria monocytogenes.
  • Food Safety Recall (UK): Dairy Crest Ltd. recalls Frijj Thick and Fresh Strawberry Milkshake (Use by 5 April 2011) due to the presence of low levels of Listeria monocytogenes.
  • Cosmetic Product Safety Recall (France): French authorities have recalled Nanokeratin System Hair Therapy Treatment (Product of China; Lot #MD2001/11/10), due to the presence of an unacceptable level of formaldehyde).
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (France): Laboratoire Chauvin recalls all lots of Cébémyxine and Atébémyxine eyedrops, due to levels of Polymyxin B that are out of specification.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Food Safety Alert (Singapore): The Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) has detected radiation in four samples of vegetables from Japan. AVA is extending its suspension on the import of all fruits and vegetables to include Tochigi, Ibaraki, Chiba and Ehime prefectures.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (Hong Kong): Bausch & Lomb (Hong Kong) Ltd. recalls all batches of Cebemyxine Eye Drops after routine stability testing by the manufacturer found the content of one of the active ingredients, Polymyxin B, to be lower than the specified level in some batches (Batches No:E2576, E1796 and E2826).
  • Unauthorized “Health” Product Safety Alert (Singapore): The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) alerts members of the public to the peddling of unlabelled bottles of black pills, touted for the treatment of a wide range of medical conditions such as arthritic and rheumatic pain, high cholesterol and hypertension. HSA’s analysis of these black pills revealed the presence of two undeclared western medicinal ingredients, namely dexamethasone and chlorpheniramine. At least two elderly patients have been reported to have fallen seriously ill after consuming these pills.
