United States

  • Allergy Alert: Papa Cantella’s Inc. (Vernon, CA) recalls Cantella’s Fully Cooked Chicken Sausage with Apples (16 oz. pkg; Lot #10191100 or 10191100R; Sell/freeze by 12/03/2011 or 12/06/2011), because of misbranding and the presence of undeclared walnuts. The recalled product was distributed to retail establishments in Southern California.
  • Allergy Alert: Silva Sausage Co. (Gilroy, CA) recalls Silva Sausage English Brand Bangers (10-lb cases; Est 6086; Item #10362; Lot codes 112271, 112911 or 112980), because of misbranding and the presence of undeclared wheat. The recalled product was distributed for institutional use in Livermore and Sacramento, CA.
  • Food Safety Recall: Trans-Ocean Products, Inc. (Bellingham, WA) recalls transOCEAN Wild Alaska Sockeye Smoked Salmon (4-oz vacuum pkg; Lot #1280W and 1293W), because the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled smoked salmon was distributed to Demoulas Marketbasket in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and to Giant Eagle supermarkets in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Ohio. The contamination was reported to Trans-Ocean by the manufacturer of the product.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall: Milford Bay Trout Farm Inc. (Bracebridge, ON) recalls Milford Bay Trout Farm Inc. Smoked Trout Filet (vacuum packed; various weights; All lot codes and best before dates), because the product may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum. The recalled Smoked Trout was distributed in Ontario.
  • Food Spoilage Recall: Les Aliments Aquafuschia recalls Aquafuchsia Organic Alfalfa Sprouts and Aquafuchsia “Le Classique” Alfalfa Sprouts (125g pkg; Lot code #318), due to microbiological spoilage. The recalled alfalfa sprouts were distributed in Quebec and Ontario.

Europe

  • Allergy Alert (UK): Halewood International Ltd. withdraws Julienas Cru de Beaujolais 2010 Vintage (75cl; Batch #L10 216), due to the presence of undeclared sulfites.
  • Allergy Alert (UK): Guy Anderson Wines Ltd. withdraws Church Mouse Falanghina (2008 and 2009; 75cl bottles; all batches) due to the presence of undeclared sulfites.
  • Allergy Alert (Ireland): Food Safety Authority of Ireland advises consumers of a labeling error on Supervalu Supreme Luxury Christmas Pudding (908g; all batches; all best before dates). Egg and butter are declared on the list of ingredients, but not in the allergy advice, while mustard is listed in the allergy advice but not on the ingredient list.
  • Allergy Alert (Sweden): Scans withdraws Scans Sausage (1000g pkgs; thin skins; best before 25/12), because the product may contain traces of undeclared gluten, lactose, peas, milk, soy and egg protein.
  • Food Safety Recall (UK): The Co-operative recalls British Beef Roasting Joint (1.1kg to 2.2kg; Use by dates 22 December 2011 and 23 December 2011), because the products should have been labeled with the use by date 5 December 2011.
  • Food Safety Alert (UK): The Food Standards Agency reports that 76% of oysters tested from UK oyster growing beds contained norovirus. In 52% of the positive samples, the norovirus was detected at low levels.
  • Food Safety Recall (Belgium): Delhaize Belgique expands its earlier recall of  Delhaize brand Tiroler Salami en tranches (150g pkgs) to include the following four additional best before dates: 04/12/2011, 11/12/2011, 18/12/2011 and 25/12/2011. The recalled sliced salami may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Inco Kødopskaering recalls various minced meat products due to Salmonella contamination.
  • Food Safety Recall (Italy): Finpesca S.r.l. recalls Alici/Anchovies (Lot 1/117410) due to the presence of parasites.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (Hong Kong): GlaxoSmithKline Limited recalls Eye Mo 36 Eye Drops 0.05% (Batch No. X012FA-1), due to the presence of fine crystals on the bottle.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (Hong Kong): APT Pharma Limited recalls Glupozide 80mg tablet (Lot H00406; manufactured by APT Pharma (China) Co. Ltd in Guangdong), after a user found a plastic fragment embedded in one of the tablets.

  • Pet Food Safety Recall: IAMS recalls IAMS Original With Chicken Cat Food (4 lbs, Lot #12794177I5; 6.8 lbs, Lot #12794177D3) and IAMS Lamb Meal With Rice Dog Food (15 lbs; Lot #12794177J4), due to elevated aflatoxin levels, according to a notice posted by the Price Chopper supermarket chain.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has expanded its earlier public warning not to consume various Woody’s brand alcoholic beverages to include additional product, sizing and UPC information. The beverages, which have been recalled by the various liquor jurisdictions where they were distributed, may contain harmful glass particles. Please read the CFIA recall notice for full details.
  • Food Safety Recall Update: 3903052 Canada Inc. (Boisbriand, QC) has amended its earlier recall notices to identify additional coding and distribution information. The company has recalled a number of cheese products bearing establishment #1874, because the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Europe

  • Allergy Alert: Tesco recalls Tesco Finest Banoffee Tart (Frozen), 522g (Display until end June 2012; Best before end September 2012), due to the presence of undeclared egg.
  • Food Safety Recall (Belgium): Delhaize Belgique recalls two additional production lots of Delhaize brand Tiroler Salami en tranches/Tiroler sliced salami, because the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The list of recalled products now includes all 150g packages bearing the Best before dates of 01.01.12, 08.01.12 or 15.01.12.
  • Food Safety Recall (Belgium): Bambix recalls Bambix Lait de croissance 1+ (1L brick; Best before 30/04/2012; Lot number range 20:50:00 to 21:07:00), due to development of an off-odor and disagreeable taste, similar to curdled milk. The affected lot was supplied to Colruyt Groupe and was sold only in Colruyt, Spar and Okay stores.
  • Food Safety Recall (France): Cochonnailles du Haut Bois recalls Cochonnailles du Haut Bois Jambonneaux Cuits/cooked hams (250g, 400g, 900g; Lot # 307, 311, 312, 313, 314, 318, 319, 320; Best before dates up to and including 30/11/2011), due to contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The hams were sold in the Paris region and in the following départements: 27, 28, 35, 41, 44, 45, and 61.
  • Food Safety Recall (Ireland): Colleran Butchers Ltd. (Galway) recalls John E. Colleran Baked Ham Cloves (Batch code 319, use by Dec 3rd 2011; Batch code 321, use by Dec 5th 2011), due to contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The affected hams were sold to caterers and retailers (for slicing at deli counters) within Galway County.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Kakshidi Food Imports Ltd recalls Spring Onions (Product of Thailand; 70g transparent plastic package), because the product is contaminated with Campylobacter.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Arla Foods amba recalls Lactose-free Mini Milk, 1L (best before 16 December 2011) and Mathilde Chocolate Milk 0.4%, 1L with screw cap (best before 16 December 2011), because the products have an off-flavor, which may be due to bacterial growth.
  • Food Recall (Denmark): Arla Foods amba recalls SAGA ECO cottage cheese, 4.5% (200g; marked with best before date 11 December 2012), because of an incorrect expiration date. The packages should show a best before date of 11 December 2011.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1690): Campylobacter spp. in fresh rucola salad from Italy; distributed to Denmark.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1691): Mercury in frozen vacuum packed swordfish slices from Spain; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1692): Mercury in chilled pork kidney from Germany; distributed to the Czech Republic.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1693, 1694 & 1695): Methanol in vodka from Germany; distributed to Denmark and Germany.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1698): Butanone in mineral water from Italy; distributed to Switzerland.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1699): Salmonella spp. in paan leaves from Bangladesh; distributed to the United Kingdom.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1700): Mercury in chilled swordfish from France; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1701): Ochratoxin A in oat sticks from the United Kingdom, via Sweden; distributed to Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • OTC Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (Hong Kong): The Department of Health has ordered Marching Pharmaceutical Ltd to recall Marsedyl Elixir and Prophenin Elixir because the shelf-life of both products was changed without approval.
  • Outbreak Alert (Hong Kong): The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a confirmed case of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) infection. The 51-year old patient had no history of travel during the incubation period and his home contacts did not report any symptoms of infection.

  • Allergy Alert: Berk Lombardo (Brooklyn, NY) recalls Berk Lombardo Chicken Breast Stuffed Broccoli & Cheese (4 x 6oz pkgs), Berk Lombardo Chicken Breast with rib meat Cordon Bleu Breaded (4 x 6oz pkgs), and Berk Lombardo Stuffed Chicken Breast Kiev (4 x 6oz pkgs), because the uncooked frozen, stuffed chicken products may contain one or more of the following undeclared ingredients: eggs, milk, monosodium glutamate or soy. The recalled products all bear the establishment number P-19034 inside the USDA mark of inspection and were sold directly to individual households throughout Long Island, NY.
  • Allergy Alert: Caribbean Rum Balls (St. Thomas, VI) recalls Caribbean brand Rum Balls (4, 8 & 12-oz pkgs), because the product contains undeclared wheat, coconut, milk, eggs and sodium bisulfite (a preservative). The recalled Rum Balls were distributed locally in retail stores and also through mail orders.
  • Allergy Alert: Maxipan Bakery Corp (West Hempstead, NY) recalls Semita De Pina (8-oz pkgs), because the product may contain undeclared milk. The recalled product was distributed in New York and New Jersey.
  • Food Safety Recall: King & Prince Seafood Corp. (Brunswick, GA) recalls Nova Style Cold Smoked Salmon, Sable Fish Lox, Salmon Sushi Fillets, and Salmon Trim (Date codes: 1277W, 1278W, 1279W, 1280W, 1281W, 1283W, 1284W, 1285W, 1286W, 1287W, 1290W, 1291W, 1292W, 1293W, 1294W, 1297W, 1298W, 1299W, 1300W, 1303W, 1306W, 1311W, 1312W, 1313W, and 1314W), because the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Please refer to the recall notice for a detailed list of recalled brands, which were distributed nationwide through brokers and foodservice distributors beginning on October 4, 2011. Although all of the products were originally distributed frozen, they may be sold refrigerated at the retail level.
  • Food Safety Recall: Four Star Import & Distribution Inc. (Brooklyn, NY) recalls Noya Brand Boyal Dry Fish (Product of Bangladesh; 200g plastic bags; Best before Dec 2012), because the product was not properly eviscerated prior to processing, and may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum spores.
  • Food Safety Recall: Four Star Import & Distribution Inc. (Brooklyn, NY) recalls Munia Brand Churi Dry Fish (Product of Bangladesh; 200g plastic bags; Best before April 2013), because the product was not properly eviscerated prior to processing, and may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum spores.
  • Food Safety Recall: Cozy Vale Creamery (Tenino, WA) recalls unpasteurized whole and skim milk and cream (Sell by dates of Dec 6, 2011 or earlier), because the products may be contaminated with toxin-producing E. coli. Three illnesses have been reported in Cozy milk customers since August, according to an article in The Olympian. The recalled raw milk products were sold at the on-farm store in Tenino and some retail locations.
  • Food Safety Recall: Giant Eagle reports the recall of Valu Time Pumpkin (UPC 1122506619; All lot codes), because the product “does not meet quality standards.”

Canada

  • Food Safety Alert: An earlier recall of Woody’s brand alcoholic beverages (330mL bottles) has been expanded to include all lot codes of the following products, because the products may contain glass fragments: Appletini Apple Vodka Cooler, Orangetini Orange Vodka Cooler, Pomtini Vodka & Pomegranate Cooler, Woody’s Blackcurrant & Apple Alcoholic Vodka Beverage, Woody’s Blueberry, Woody’s Light Orange Alcoholic Vodka Beverage (99 Orange), Woody’s Light Raspberry Alcoholic Vodka Beverage (99 Raspberry), Woody’s Mexican Lime Alcoholic Vodka Beverage, Woody’s Party Pack (mixed flavors), Woody’s Pineapple and Grapefruit Alcoholic Vodka Beverage, Woody’s Pink Grapefruit Alcoholic Vodka Beverage, Woody’s Refresher Original,Woody’s Sasparilla Original Alcoholic Beverage, and Woody’s Vodka Cola Original Alcoholic Beverage. The products were distributed Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Yukon Territories, and may have been sold nationally.
  • Food Safety Recall: Ready-Bake Foods Inc. (Mississauga, ON) recalls Bake At Home® D’Italiano Garlic Rolls (405g; Date codes 199M through to 241M), because the oven-ready plastic food trays can meld when the product is baked in the oven at temperatures higher than 400°F. The recalled products were sold from August 2011 to November 2011.
  • Consumer Product Safety Recall: Costco Canada recalls Kirkland Signature by Borghese Cosmetic Brush Set (Costco Item #517737), because some of the brushes may contain yeast. The products were manufactured by International Beauty Products (Pine Brook, NJP and were sold in Costco warehouses in Canada between August 2011 and October 2011.

Europe

  • Allergy Alert (Netherlands): DEEN Supermarkets recalls DEEN Chicken Cordon Bleu (2 pieces/pkg; Expiry date 12/01/2011), due to the presence of undeclared peanuts. Due to an error, the packages may contain schnitzel fill with peanut sauce.
  • Allergy Alert (FInland): Atria Finland Oy recalls Atria Kulinaari Pork Palvifilee (175g pkg; Expiry dates 23/11/2011, 28/11/2011, 11/30/2011, 12/05/2011, 07/12/2011, and 12/08/2011) because the product contains undeclared hydrolyzed soy protein.
  • Allergy Alert (Sweden): Be-Ji Oat Balls Ltd. withdraws Chocolate and Old Fashioned Oat Balls (Best before 06.01.2012), because they may contain traces of undeclared milk protein.
  • Allergy Alert (Sweden): ICA withdraws ICA Asia and Euro Shopper brands of noodles (85g pkgs; All best before dates; various flavors), because the noodles contain undeclared milk protein.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Flex Pack Industry recalls Villaverde brand toasted pine nuts (1kg pkg; Best before January 2012), because the product contains aflatoxin above the allowable limit.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): IGOS A/S recalls Pleasure Jam Blueberry Jam (Batch L778, Best before 09.10.12; Batch L463, Best before 04.01.13), due to mold growth on the surface of the jam.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1687): Mercury in frozen precooked tuna from Colombia; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Supplement Safety Notification (EU #2011.1688): Didecyldimethylammonium chloride in grapefruit seed extract from Italy; distributed to Finland and Sweden.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1689): Salmonella spp. in minced pork and turkey meat from Poland; distributed to Lithuania.
