United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: CDC reports thirty-one (31) confirmed Salmonella infections in ten states, with six people hospitalized. The illnesses have been linked to consumption of Citterio brand Premium Italian-Style Salame Sticks. The manufacturer recalled the product after California officials recovered the outbreak strain from two unopened packages.

Allergy Alert: Ellenos Real Greek Yogurt recalls Mango Greek Yogurt (16-oz cups; Best before 11/28/2021; UPC 8 57290 00612 6) due to undeclared egg.

Allergy Alert: ILG International Trading, Inc recalls Natural Delight Collection brand Natural Dried Apricots (500g / 17 oz; Best before 03/30/2022; UPC 811579000533) due to undeclared sulphites.

Food Safety Recall: Oregon Lox Company recalls various brands of Wild Cold Smoked Keta Salmon Lox (various package sizes; Lot #22821) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Canada

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: The Public Health Agency of Canada is reporting an outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis infections encompassing 46 lab-confirmed cases in British Columbia (18), Alberta (18), Saskatchewan (3), Manitoba (6) and Ontario (1). Individuals became sick between late September 2021 and mid-October 2021, and three people have been hospitalized. Many of the individuals who became sick reported eating fresh produce before their illness; however a source for the outbreak has not yet been determined.

Allergy Alert: Flying Fish Trading Inc. recalls String Cheese Roll Fish Cake (Premium Magnolia Fish Cake) (150g; Best before 2023-07-22) due to undeclared egg.

Food Safety Recall: Jabbour Export/Import Ltd. recalls multiple Al Burj brand Tahina and Halawa products due to Salmonella contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Food Safety Recall:  Ma Cabane en Gaspésie (Mont-Joli, QC) recalls PÉPERETTES / Dry sausage (85g; Sold up to and including 9 November 2021) because the processing conditions were inadequate to ensure product safety.

Europe

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Denmark): The Statens Serum Institut reports an outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis infections encompassing 18 individuals between 15 September and 29 October 2021. Nine of the patients were hospitalized. The outbreak was traced to eggs from a single egg-packing plant. The implicated eggs were recalled on November 1st.

Food Safety Recall: Pier-C Produce Inc. of Leamington, Ontario Canada recalls Pier-C 2lb white onions of Mexican origin (2 lb bags; UPC 0 33383 60051 2; Product of Mexico; Supplied by Keeler Family Farms, USA) due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recalled product was supplied to a single wholesaler and a single retailer in the state of Florida.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (SWEDEN): The Swedish Public Health Agency is investigating an outbreak of 33 cases of Salmonella Typhimurium infections scattered across seven different regions of the country. The source of the illnesses is suspected to be a food with wide distribution across the country.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA issues Warning Letter to Jule’s Foods following an inspection of the company’s ready-to-eat (RTE) vegan cashew brie products manufacturing facility. The inspection was initiated as part of a Salmonella multi-state outbreak investigation by the CDC and the FDA.
