OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: FDA reports that the number of Salmonella Javiana infections has risen to 28. The source of the outbreak is still unknown. FDA has initiated a traceback investigation.

Food Safety Recall: International Golden Foods, Inc. recalls Al kanater Tahini Sesame Paste (1 lb (454g); Lot #TT4N‐201127; UPC 6‐92551‐00002‐0) due to possible Salmonella contamination.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA issues Warning Letter to Maribel’s Sweets, Inc. after determining that the company’s response to the agency’s findings of multiple violations during a June 2021 inspection was inadequate.

Probiotic Safety Recall: Livia Global, Inc. recalls multiple LiviaOne Liquid Probiotics & BioLifePet Liquid Probiotics (Lot #010620-1 (LiviaOne Nasal Probiotics) & 001005-1; Best by 08/2023 and 04/2023, respectively) due to possible Pseudomonas aeruginosa contamination. Allergy Alert: Calise & Sons Bakery, Inc. recalls Golden Flax Seed Scala Bread (Julian date 327; Sell by date 12-06) due to undeclared sesame.

Canada

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) reports 17 additional cases of Salmonella Enteritidis infections in an outbreak for which the source still has not been determined. In all, 63 cases have been confirmed in British Columbia (26), Alberta (21), Saskatchewan (4), Manitoba (11) and Ontario (1), and three people have been hospitalized. The Ontario case reported having traveled to Alberta before becoming ill. Many of the outbreak victims reported having consumed fresh produce.

Food Safety Recall: Sungiven Foods Canada Inc. recalls  One Tang brand Bitter Apricot Kernel (180g; Date code 2023.JN.20; UPC 6 28546 00724 8) due to the presence of amygdalin, a natural toxin that can cause cyanide poisoning.
