United States

  • Food Safety Recall: Landshire, Inc. (St. Louis, MO) expands its earlier recall of Nike Sandwich to include additional production dates and products, because the sandwiches may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.. The expanded recall includes Landshire Nike All-American Sandwich (7.25 oz/206g; UPC 0 9748801741 5; Production lot codes 11 237 6 through 11 285 6) and Landshire Nike Super Poor Boy Sandwich (2-count pkg (UPC 0 9748800765 2) or 8-count pkg (UPC 0 9748800712 6); Production lot codes 11 237 6 through 11 285 6). The recalled sandwiches were distributed nationwide at convenience stores, wholesale food distributors and retail supermarkets, including Ralphs and Walmart.
  • Food Safety Recall/Outbreak Alert: Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. recalls Turkish Pine Nuts sold in the Bulk Foods department of Wegmans stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia and Maryland between July 1 and October 18, 2011, after consumption of the pine nuts was linked to 42 confirmed cases of Salmonella Enteritidis infections in six states.
  • Food Safety Recall: Judy’s Catering, LLC (Burbank, CA) recalls ready-to-eat meals produced on 4/27/11, 6/15/11, 8/10/11, 9/12/11, or 9/13/11, because they were produced without the benefit of federal inspection. The ready-to-eat meals were sent to distribution centers in the Los Angeles County area, and may have been sold to airlines and hospitals. The recalled products carry expiration dates of 10/27/11, 12/15/11, 2/10/12, 3/12/12 or 3/13/12.
  • Food Safety Recall: A.L. Bazzini recalls Honey Nut & Seed Crunch (all lots) and Honey Nut & Seed Crunch Mix (all lots), due to possible foreign material in the product, according to a notice posted by Giant Eagle.
  • Outbreak Alert: The Saint Louis County Department of Health is investigating an outbreak of shiga toxin-producing E. coli that has sickened 14 people so far this week. The outbreak victims range from 4 to 94 years of age, and have been suffering from bloody diarrhea, according to a report on stltoday.com. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is assisting in the lab analysis and in the outbreak investigation, and has notified CDC.

Canada

  • Allergy Alert: McCormick Canada Co. (London, ON) recalls McCormick International Roast Gravy Sauce Mix (32g; UPC 0 66200 90556 9; Date codes 1214A, 1214B, 1214C and 1215C), because the product may contain undeclared milk. The recalled sauce mix was distributed nationally.
  • Food Safety Recall: Viande Richelieu Inc. recalls Viande Richelieu Horse Meat Deboned (Code 1237), Ground (code 1242) and Sliced (Code 1244), due to the presence of drug residues in the meat. The recalled horse meat was distributed to retailers in the province of Québec.

Europe

  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall: Apotex SPAIN SL recalls OLANZAPINA APOTEX 15MG 28 COMPRIMIDOS BUCODISPERSABLES EFG (Product of Apotex Inc (Canada); Lot JW5630; Expiry date 30/04/2013), due to the presence of 10mg blisters inside some containers.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Food Safety Recall (Australia): Murray Goulburn Company Ltd. recalls Devondale UHT Skim Milk (2L tetra brik pkg; Best Before 05 June 12-3; Batch code 06:08 to 07:08), due to bacterial spoilage in some packs. The recalled milk was sold in Coles Supermarkets nationwide, in IGA stores in West Australia and Queensland, and at the Murray Goulbourne Trading Store in Corryong, VIC.
  • Food Safety Alert (West Australia): The public is reminded not to eat shellfish collected from within the Peel-Harvey Estuary (South of Mandurah), or wild shellfish from elsewhere in West Australia, due to the presence of algae that are capable of causing Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisoning.

Latin America and the Caribbean

  • Medical Device Safety Recall (Brazil): Bayer SA recalls Countour TS Test Strips for Blood Glucose, because under certain conditions, some test strips can produce a falsely low blood glucose reading.

  • Allergy Alert: Supreme Meat Purveyors (San Antonio, TX) recalls frozen Carne Guisada (2 x 5-lb bags/cs; Case code of 71087/506004, 500233 or 600100; Produced on various dates from 10/25/10 to 10/19/11), because the products contain undeclared soy.
  • Allergy Alert: Emporium Packaging & Spice Co (Temple, TX) recalls Ponchatrain Sauce Mix (0.17-lb plastic bag; all lots), because the product may contain undeclared milk and soy. The recalled sauce mix was sold in Temple, Texas through the firm’s retail store.
  • Food Recall: Food City advises consumers that Food Club Graham Crumbs, 15-oz pkg has been recalled. No details are available.
  • Food Safety Alert: The Texas Department of State Health Services announced that all commercial and recreational harvesting of oysters, clams and mussels in all Texas waters is closed until further notice due to red tide, an algal bloom.
  • Outbreak Alert: The North Carolina Division of Public Health and the Wake County Health Department are investigating seven cases of E. coli illnesses, including 6 children. Four people have been hospitalized, and two – both of them children – remain in intensive care.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall: Fumoir du Nord (Quebec, QC) recalls Sensations by Compliments brand Smoked Atlantic Salmon (120g pkgs; Best before 11NO25), because the product may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum. The recalled smoked salmon was sold in Quebec, and in IGA Extra in Edmundston, NB.
  • Food Safety Recall: Mannarich Food Inc. (Markham, ON) recalls an extensive list of Mannarich Food Inc. brand and Ocean Chinese Food Products brand vacuum-packed, refrigerated, ready-to-eat fish products (All Best Before dates up to and including December 16, 2011) because the products may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum.   • Food Safety Recall: La Siembra Co-operative recalls Camino 55% Dark Chocolate with Almond (100g; Code BBD 23 08 12 and 22 06 12), due to the presence of glass particles.

Europe

  • Food Safety Recall (France): Les fromageries de Blâmont recalls Munster géromé made from unpasteurized milk (200g; Lot 251, followed by the 6 digits from 237833 to 237839), after Listeria was detected in a sample. The recalled cheese was sold under the brands Reflets de France, Nos régions ont du talent, Auchan Terroir and Val de Weiss in the following grocery chains: Auchan, Leclerc, Carrefour, Cora, Simply Market, Partisans du Goût, Prixbas, A 2Pas et Auchan City.
  • Food Safety Recall (Germany): Naturfleisch GmbH recalls Coarsely minced pork (Foil packaging; Batch #3-18-41; Best before 11/08/2011), after Listeria monocytogenes is found in a sample. The product was distributed in South Thuringia.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Asian Trading recalls Fresh Coriander from Thailand (50g plastic bags; Labeled as “Coriander, TL.1, 50gr Vietnam”), after Salmonella is detected in a sample of the product.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Aldi recalls Country Pleasure brand Fresh turkey breast (700g-1100g; Lot #2169433 065401; Best before 13 October 2011; Product of Germany), after Salmonella is detected in a sample of the product.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Danish Crown recalls Pork Belly cuts (Retail Package Dates 06.10.2011 to 12.10.2011), after Salmonella is detected in a sample of the product.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Royal Biscuit recalls Much More Coconut Tops (210g; Batch 110715; Best before 15.01.2012) due to fermentation.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1501): Diarrhoeic shellfish poisoning toxins in chilled mussels from Italy; distributed to Austria and Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1502): Listeria monocytogenes in Ardenner paté from Belgium; distributed to the Netherlands.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1503): Salmonella in paan leaves from Bangladesh; distributed to the United Kingdom.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1504): Defective packaging and mold growth in chorizo sausages from Spain; distributed to Finland.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1506): Chloramphenicol in chilled lobster from the United States; distributed to the Czech Republic.
  • Food Safety Recall (EU #2011.1507): Cadmium in spinach from Belgium; distributed to Belgium and Luxembourg.

  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (Hong Kong): Hovid Ltd. recalls Ternolol 100mg Tablets (Batch #AJ12560), after a sample fails a disintegration test.

  • Food Recall: Price Chopper recalls Price Chopper Light Brown Sugar (UPC 41735-06277), because the bags contain dark brown sugar.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall: Aquatec Seafoods Ltd. (Comox, BC) recalls Mussels (10-lb & 20-lb bags; Lot #453, harvested October 3/11 & Lot #466, harvested October 10/11) and Taylor Shellfish Canada dba Fanny Bay Oysters (Union Bay, BC) recalls Farmed Salish Mussels (10-lb & 20-lb bags; Lot 6206 , harvested Oct 02/11 & Lot 6233, harvested Oct 9/11), because the raw mussels may contain paralytic shellfish toxins. The recalled mussels were sold mainly to wholesalers, institutions and restaurants in British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba, but may also have been sold at some retail seafood counters and in other provinces and territories.

Europe

  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Kivan Food A/S recalls vacuum-packed Smoked Venison (1-kg pkg; Produced 21/9-2011; Expiry 21/10-2011), because Listeria was found in a sample of the product.
  • Food Safety Recall (Italy): Salumificio Manuelli S.r.L. recalls Salametto Milano (Lot 3425; Sold beginning 22/09/2011), after an unsatisfactory microbiological analysis is reported. The recalled Salametto Milano was sold in Gros Cidac stores.
  • Outbreak Alert (UK): Tri Ceffyl Bach Nursery in Amlwch was closed as a precaution after three cases of E. coli O157 were found in children attending the nursery.
  • Outbreak Alert (Ireland):  A Limerick child care center was asked to close by public health officials after an outbreak of E. coli O26 was confirmed in some children.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1434): Salmonella spp. in salami from Italy; distributed to the United Kingdom.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1435): Aflatoxins in pistachio nuts from Iran, via Germany; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1439): Listeria monocytogenes in smoked salmon from Denmark; distributed to Italy.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Outbreak Alert (Hong Kong): The Centre for Health Protection is investigating an outbreak of acute gastroenteritis among 20 children at a kindergarten in Tseung Kwan O.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Food Safety Recall (Australia): Bundaberg Brewed Drinks Pty Ltd. recalls Bundaberg Burgundee Creaming Soda (340ml glass bottle; Best before 20 NOV 12), due to fermentation that increased the risk of product shattering. The recalled beverage was sold in IGA Supermarkets, takeaway outlets, corner stores, service stations and cafes in NSW and QLD only.
  • Food Safety Recall (Australia): Maleny Dairies Pty. Ltd. recalls several flavors of cows milk and goats milk, due to the possible presence of chemical contamination. The recalled product was sold in restaurants, cafes, specialty Coffee Shops, Schools, IGA supermarkets, Coles, Woolworths, petrol Stations and other independent retail outlets in South East Queensland.
