United States

  • Allergy Alert: Wimberger’s Old World Bakery & Delicatessen recalls all Kaiser Rolls, Seeded Rolls, Brat Buns, French Bread, Pretzel Rolls, Pretzels, Pizza Dough, Hoagie Rolls and French Baguettes because they contain undeclared Milk, Soy and Wheat. All of the recalled products were packed in semi-transparent plastic bags identified “fresh from the OVEN SOUR DOUGH 12 KAISER ROLLS, NET WT 20 OZ, WIMBERGER’S OLD WORLD BAKERY 2321 Bott St., Colorado Springs, Colo 80904”. The labeling is yellow, white, and brown, with black print writing bearing the UPC 7960540012 or in 10 oz. bags bearing the UPC 7960540012. The recalled products were distributed to grocery stores, delicatessens and restaurants in Colorado and Kansas.
  • Allergy Alert: Tony Downs Foods Company (Madelia, MN) recalls Tyson Premium Chunk Chicken (12.5-oz cans; Best by May 18, 2015; Code date 8965 248A 12139), due to mislabelling and the presence of undeclared wheat. The incorrectly labeled cans may actually contain Beef with Gravy. The recalled product was distributed to retailers nationwide.
  • Food Safety Recall: LSG Sky Chefs (Orlando, FL) recalls RaceTrac Chipotle Chicken Wrap (6.9-oz pkg; Sell Thru July 27 to July 31, 2012; Est P-19682), because the ready-to-eat product contains diced onions that were recalled by Gill’s Onions due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recalled wraps were produced from July 22nd to July 26th, 2012 and shipped for distribution to Racetrac stores in Florida.
  • Food Safety Recall: Enslin & Son Packing Company (Hattiesburg, MS) recalls Cedar Grove Red Hots (1.5-lb and 2-lb pkgs; Use or freeze by dates of 09/24/2012 or 09/28/2012; Est P-31806), due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recalled products were supplied to Save-A-Lot and Cash Saver in Meridian, MS and to William Brothers in Philadelphia, MS.
  • Food Safety Recall: Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. recalls prepared foods that contain chopped/diced white onions as an ingredient, because the onion were recalled by Gill Onions, LLC due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recalled products were sold only at certain Wegmans stores. Please refer to the recall notice for details.
  • Food Safety Recall: GH Foods CA, LLC recalls various products containing yellow onions, because the onions were recalled by Gills Onions due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recalled products were sold under the following brands: Delish! (California), Generic Label Albertson’s (California and Nevada), Garden Highway (California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah), Marketside (California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado and Idaho), Natural Directions (Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Wyoming), Pacific Coast Directions (California and Nevada), Raley’s (California and Nevada), Safeway Farms (Safeway, Vons Pavilions, Pak ‘N Save in California, Nevada and Arizona), Signature Café (Safeway, Vons Pavilions, Pak ‘N Save in California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, South Dakota, Wyoming and Nebraska), Sprouts (California) and Trader Joe’s (California, Nevada, New Mexico and Arizona.   • Food Safety Recall: Whole Foods Market recalls certain fresh food items sold in prepared foods departments and one item sold in seafood departments of their Florida stores, because the products may contain raw yellow onions that were recalled by Gills Onions, LLC due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recalled products were sold at 17 Whole Foods Market locations in Florida between July 7th and July 27th, 2012.   • Food Safety Recall: Cool Creations, LLC (North Kansas City, MO) recalls certain Cool Creations, LLC or Fiesta Garden Fresh Salsa brand products containing onions (Lot codes 12201 to 12208; that were recalled by Gills Onions, LLC due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products were distributed to retailers in Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma between July 19th and July 26th, 2012.   • Food Safety Recall: Trader Joe’s recalls the following products that contain onions that were recalled by Gills Onions due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination: Trader Joe’s Diced Onions, Garlic & Shallots Blend (Best by 7/15/12 through 8/1/12; Arizon, California, Nevada & New Mexico stores); Trader Joe’s Roasted Butternut Squash, Red Quinos & Wheatberry Salad (Use by 7/28/12 and 7/30/12; Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington stores); Trader Joe’s BBQ Chicken Salad (Use by 7/16/12 through 7/30/12; Arizona, New Mexico, Southern California, Southern Nevada & Texas stores); Trader Joe’s Fresh Mild Salsa (16 oz; Use by 8/9/12; Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Southern Virginia Region stores); and Trader Joe’s Balela (Use by 7/31/12; Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Southern Virginia Region stores).
  • Food Safety Recall: Productos Tita Corp. (Glendale, NY) recalls Quesito Colombiano, Colombian style Cheese (8-oz clear plastic pouches or tubs; Code AUG 10 2012; Plant code #36-8440), after a routine sample was found by the New York State Division of Milk Control and Dairy Services to be contaminated with high levels of Staphylococcus aureus. The recalled product was distributed in the Metropolitan New York area.
  • Pet Food Safety Recall: Arthur Dogswell LLC recalls Catswell Brand VitaKitty Chicken Breast with Flaxseed and Vitamins (2-oz plastic bag; Lot codes SEW12CH032701/03c & SEW12CH032702/03c; Best before 09/10/13 and 09/11/13), because the treats may contain propylene glycol. The recalled product was distributed nationwide via retail stores and mail order from April 13th through June 14th, 2012. The problem was detected as a result of a routine surveillance sample.
  • Personal Care Product Safety Recall: Natural Essentials recalls Oasis Age Essential Mouthwash (16 OL; Lot #11842, 11741 and 11851; Expiration date 5/2014), due to possibel contamination with Burkholderia cepacia.
  • Outbreak Alert (Florida): Several dozen Disney World attendees became ill with diarrhea, abdominal pain and fatigue in early June after participating in the Animal Kingdom Wild Africa Trek, according to the Orange County Health Department. Symptoms lasted 2-5 days, and none of the victims were hospitalized. The source of the illness outbreak has not yet been determined.
  • Outbreak Alert Update (Cruise): CDC reports that the outbreak of illnesses on a July 8-21, 2012 voyage of Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess was due to norovirus. Fifteen crew members and 201 passengers developed vomiting and diarrhea during the cruise, which docked in New York on July 20, 2012. Norovirus was confirmed in stool specimens analyzed by a Health Canada lab in Halifax.

Canada

  • Allergy Alert: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency warns consumers who are allergic to almond not to consume Lotte brand Choco Pie (280g pkgs; UPC 8 801062 168255; All date codes), because the product contains undeclared almonds.This product is known to have been distributed in Ontario and may have been distributed in other provinces as well.
  • Allergy Alert: Montreal Kosher updates its earlier recall of Montreal Kosher brand product to include all of the following: Montreal Kosher Potato Knish (283g, 340g and 454g; All lot codes). The recalled products, which contain undeclared egg, were distributed in Ontario and Quebec.
  • Food Safety Recall: Manitoba Liquor Control Commission recalls Woody’s Sasparilla Original Alcoholic Beverage (4 x 330 mL; Code BB 16/02/14), due to extraneous material (glass) contamination. The recalled product was sold in Manitoba.
  • Food Safety Recall (Retail distribution): Gills Onions brand Fresh Diced Yellow Onions, Fresh Diced Red Onions and Fresh Diced Celery & Onions (198g pkgs; Best before dates up to and including 08/03/12; Product of USA), which were recalled due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, were sold by the following retail chains: Gambles Ontario Produce Inc. (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan), Overwaitea Food Group LP (Alberta, British Columbia), Loblaw Companies Ltd. (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan), and Walmart Canada Corp (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan).

Europe

  • Food Safety Recall (Belgium): Fang’s Food S.A. recalls Fang’s Food Bean Sprouts (250g, 5kg & 10kg; Best before 25/07/2012 to 31/07/2012), due to Salmonella contamination. The recalled products were sold during the period of 19/07 to 25/07/2012.
  • Food Safety Recall (Belgium): Delhaize Belgique recalls Delhaize brand Wokmix soja (250g; Expiry 26 and 27 July 2012), Wok Légumes et soja (400g; Expiry 27 July 2012), Wok chop choy (400g; Expiry 26 & 27 July 2012), Wok mélange de légumes (400g; Expiry 27 July 2012) and Wok légumes chinois (400g; Expiry 27 July 2012), because the products contain soy sprouts that may be contaminated with Salmonella.
  • Food Safety Recall (Belgium): Match recalls Cora brand Roquefort (4 x 25g; Lot #120466192; Best before 10/11/2012), due to contamination with Escherichia coli O103:H2. The recalled cheese was sold in Match, Smatch, and Match Food and More stores.

  • Allergy Alert: Piccadilly Fine Foods (Santa Clara, CA) recalls Top Nosh Farmer’s Market Chicken and Yam with Coconut Curry Pies (Est #P-9216; Lot code 184-12), due to the presence of undeclared shrimp. The recalled pies were produced on June 29, 2012 and sold to a San Jose, Calif.-area distributor for further distribution.
  • Allergy Alert: Spillson’s LTD recalls Texas BBQ Beef Sandwiches (4-oz; Best by date between July 20th and August 3rd, 2012), due to the presence of undeclared soy flour and wheat flour. The recaled product was sold at various convenience stores in Monroe, MI.
  • Food Safety Recall: Gills Onions, LLC (Oxnard, CA) expands its earlier recall to include all diced, slivered and whole peeled onions and diced onion/celery mix with use-by-dates on or before August 3rd, due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products were shipped directly to retailers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Montana, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Washington and Canada. US retailers impacted by this recall include KingSoopers, Fred Meyer, Ralphs, Food4Less, QFC and Albertsons, The expanded recall was initiated after FDA investigation revealed the presence of Listeria in the company’s facility.
  • Food Safety Recall: Sartori Inspirations, LLC recalls Ciolo brand tapenades, goudas, cheeses and salsas (please refer to recall notice for details), because the products may contain onions from Gill Onions and may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled dips and spreads were distributed to Whole Foods Market stores in Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington.
  • Food Safety Recall: Publix Super Markets (Lakeland, FL) recalls Sub Sandwiches With Onions, because the onions were supplied by Gill Onions LLC and may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled Sub Sandwiches were sold from the Publix Deli department between July 7, 2012 through July 26, 2012 in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Publix stores in Florida are not involved with this recall.
  • Food Safety Recall: Spartan Stores recalls Spartan Stores Central Kitchen Three Bean Salad (5 lb bulk bag; Spartan code #329; All lots) and Spartan Stores Central Kitchen Broccoli Stir Fry (12 oz; Spartan code #010; All lots), because the products contain onions recalled by Gills Onions, LLC, and may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products were shipped between July 13th through July 26th, 2012 to VG’s Grocery, Spartan, Valu Land, VG’s Fresh Market, Glen’s Markets, Glen’s Fresh Market, Family Fare Supermarkets, and D&W Fresh Market stores.
  • Food Safety Recall Update: USDA updates Retail Distribution List for frozen, ready-to-eat meat and poultry products recalled by Buona Vita, Inc. due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
  • Food Safety Alert (Washington): The Washington State Department of Health has closed Hood Canal to shellfish harvesting after tests detected diarrhetic shellfish poison at unsafe levels in molluscan shellfish from Hood Canal near Brinnon.
  • Outbreak Alert Update: CDC reports that the outbreak of Salmonella Bareilly and Salmonella Nchanga that was associated with consumption of products containing raw scrape ground tuna is over. In all, 425 people in 28 states were infected with one of the outbreak strains, and 55 of those were hospitalized.

Canada

  • Allergy Alert: Korea Food Trading recalls Lotte Choco Pie (336g; All codes) due to the presence of undeclared tree nuts. The recalled product was sold in Ontario.
  • Food Safety Recall: Gills Onions LLC (Oxnard, CA) has expanded its earlier recall to include all Best before date codes up to and including 08/03/12 for the following products, because of potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination: Fresh Diced Yellow Onions (198g; UPC 6 43550 00044 3), Fresh Diced Red Onions (198g; UPC 6 43550 00045 0) and Fresh Diced Celery & Onions (198g; UPC 6 43550 00046 7). The recalled products may have been distributed nationally.
  • Food Safety Alert (British Columbia): The BC Centre for Disease Control is reminding the public there’s a risk of illness associated with eating raw or undercooked bivalve shellfish such as oysters, clams, mussels, scallops, and cockles. Five cases of locally acquired Vibrio parahaemolyticus infections have been reported so far in 2012.

  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (Hong Kong): Apotex Inc. (Canada) recalls Apo-Trifluoperazine Tablet 5mg (Batch #JW2265 and JW2266), as the indicated batches were found to be out of specification during post marketing stability study.

  • Food Safety Recall: Buona Vita, Inc. (Bridgeton, NJ) recalls various frozen, ready-to-eat meat and poultry products sold under the Silver Lake, Buon Gusto, Mamma Cacciatore, Pisa and Sapore Italiano brands (Produced June 26, 2012; Est. No. P-954; Case code 1782), due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products were sold to distribution facilities nationwide.   • Food Safety Recall: Roxy Trading Inc. (Pomona, CA) recalls Gold Plum Candy (170g/6 oz pkgs; Product of Taiwan; All date codes), due to unacceptable levels of lead. The recalled product was sold in Southern California.
  • Food Safety Recall: Productos Tita Corp (Glendale, NY) recalls Tita brand Quesito Colombiano Colombian Cheese (sold in plastic pouches or rectangular clear plastic tubs; Plant code 36-8440; All date codes), due to improper pasteurization of milk used to make the cheese. The recalled fresh cheese products were sold in the metropolitan New York area.
  • Food Safety Recall: Schnuck Markets, Inc. recalls Tomato Basil Salad, Tortellini Salad and Italian Pasta Salad from 12 Schnucks (DeKalb, IL), Logli (Rockford, IL and Janesville, WI) and Hilander (Rockford, IL and Janesville, WI) stores, because the salads were made using onions recalled by Gills Onions due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recalled deli salads were sold from the stores’ delis between July 10th and July 18th, 2012.
  • OTC Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall: The Kroger Company advises its customers that Wellements Baby Move Prune Concentrate (4 oz size) may be contaminated with Salmonella and has been recalled. The product was sold at Kroger stores located in Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Knoxville, Tennessee, Greater Cincinnati, including Northern Kentucky, Dayton, OH and South Eastern Indiana, Central and Northwest Ohio and N. West Virginia panhandle, Michigan, Indiana (except SW IN, -Evansville-), Illinois, Eastern Missouri, Greater Louisville (including Indiana), Lexington, and Nashville, TN, North Carolina, Virginia, Eastern WV, Eastern Kentucky, SE Ohio, Greater Memphis, TN, Arkansas, Mississippi and Western Kentucky, Texas and Louisiana, Dillon, KingSoopers, Frys, Smiths, 087 – Peyton Southea, 181 – Peyton Norther, 185 – Peyton Buckeye, 388 – Peyton Fountai stores.
  • Outbreak Alert Update: CDC reports that an outbreak of shigatoxin-producing Escherichia coli O145 that infected 18 people in 10 states is now over. No source of the infections was ever identified.

Europe

  • Allergy Alert (UK): Sainsbury’s withdraws Sainsbury’s 8 Chunky Caramel Chocolate Bars (8 x 40g pack; All ‘best before’ date codes up to and including 16 July 2013), due to the presence of undeclared peanuts.
  • Allergy Alert (UK): Cambridge Weight Plan recalls Cambridge Weight Plan Lactose-free Vanilla Drink (Best before 5 December 2013), due to the presence of undeclared milk.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Tulip Food Company recalls Foretta Italian Salami (350g; Best before 03.12.12) and GØL Italian Salami (300g; Best before 02.11.12), after some small soft blue pieces were found in the product. The Foretta salami was sold in Netto stores across Denmark; the GØL salami was sold in grocery stores, supermarkets and Salling.
  • Food Safety Recall Update (Multiple Countries): Roquefort cheese that were recalled by La Société Gabriel Coulet SA (France) due to contamination with shigatoxin producing Escherichia coli O26:H11 was distributed in Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.1028): Listeria monocytogenes in chilled vacuum packed smoked salmon from Poland; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.1030): Excessive propylene glycol in Swiss rolls from Sri Lanka, via the Netherlands; distributed to Denmark.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.1031): Undeclared peanut in vanilla wafer from Bulgaria; distributed to Hungary.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.1032): Salmonella in minced meat from Poland; distributed to Sweden.
  • Allergy Alert Notification (EU #2012.1033): Undeclared peanut and incorrect use of packaging for Sainsbury’s chunky caramel chocolate bars from Spain; distributed to the United Kingdom.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.1034): Listeria monocytogenes in soya shroots from the Netherlands; distributed to Belgium.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.1035): Aflatoxins in rice from Sri Lanka; distributed to Belgium and France.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Alert (Hong Kong): The Department of Health warns the public not to buy or consume the oral product “Tinea Schwartz’s”, as it may contain undeclared prednisone, a steroid, which can cause serious side effects in some individuals when taken over a period of time.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Allergy Alert (Australia): Quality Food World Pty Ltd. recalls Olive Branch Smoked Salmon Dairy Free dip and/or spread (200g plastic tub; Best before 01 NOV 12), due to the presence of undeclared egg. The recalled product was sold at IGA, Harris Farm and other independent supermarkets including green grocers in NSW, QLD, SA and VIC.
  • Food Safety Recall (Australia): Woolworths Ltd. recalls Macro Wholefoods Market Organic Biodynamic Almonds (250g resealable package; Best before 16/02/13, 03/03/13 and 17/03/13), due to Salmonella contamination. The recalled product was sold nationally at Woolworths Supermarkets, Safeway, Food for Less, Flemings Supermarkets and Thomas Dux Grocers from May 31st through July 17th, 2012.
