United States
  • Food Safety Recall: Colorado Meat Packers (Denver, CO) recalls 2,234 pounds of beef trim that was improperly labeled and potentially adulterated. The recalled trim was produced on December 2, 2010 and sent to a federal establishment in Colorado for further processing.
  • Food Safety Recall (Expansion): One Great Burger (Elizabeth, NJ) expands its January 10, 2011 recall to include an undetermined amount of additional ground beef products that may have become spoiled. The recalled products were produced between April 2010 and May 2010 and were distributed to grocery stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi.
  • Alcohol Swab/Pad Safety Recall (Update): Genentech, Inc. advises patients and healthcare providers that the Triad alcohol prep pads enclosed in its Boniva Injection, Fuzeon, Nutropin A.Q. Pen, Pegasys, and TNKase medicines should not be used. The alcohol prep pads were recalled by Triad Group due to possible contamination with Bacillus cereus.
  • OTC Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall: McNeil Consumer Healthcare (Fort Washington, PA) recalls at the wholesale level certain lots of Tylenol® 8 Hour, Tylenol® Arthritis Pain, and Tylenol® upper respiratory products, and certain lots of Benadryl®, Sudafed PE® and Sinutab® products distributed in the United States, the Caribbean and Brazil, after a review of past production records found instances where equipment cleaning procedures were insufficient or that cleaning was not adequately documented. In addition, McNeil is recalling at the wholesale level certain production lots of Rolaids® Multi-Symptom Berry Tablets distributed in the United States in order to update the labeling.
Canada
  • Allergy Alert Expanded: Mocaroma (Canada) Ltd. expands its earlier recall of Dai Pai Dong brand No Sugar Added Instant Soya Milk to include all Best Before dates. The recalled product, which was distributed in Ontario, contains undeclared milk.
  • Food Safety Recall: Circle City Marketing and Distributing, d.b.a. Candy Dynamics (Indianapolis, IN) has recalled all lots and flavors of Toxic Waste® brand Nuclear Sludge® Chew Bars (imported from Pakistan), after the California Department of Public Health found elevated lead levels in lot #8288A of the cherry flavor. The recalled products may have been distributed nationally in Canada.
  • Alcohol Swab/Pad Safety Recall (Update): Bowers Medical Ltd. recalls alcohol swabsticks, swabs and prep pads manufactured by Triad Group (all lot numbers). In addition, Bowers is recalling lubricating jelly (all lot numbers beginning with 7, 8, 9 and 0) manufactured by Triad group.
Europe
  • Food Safety Recall (France): Lidl recalls three-color peppers in bags – poivrons tricolores en sachets – (lot L-01-05 TUTW), imported from Spain and sold in Lidl stores between January 11 and January 14th. The recalled peppers contain ethephon residues in excess of the legal limit.
Latin America and the Caribbean
  • OTC Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall: McNeil Consumer Healthcare (Fort Washington, PA) recalls at the wholesale level certain lots of Tylenol® 8 Hour, Tylenol® Arthritis Pain, and Tylenol® upper respiratory products, and certain lots of Benadryl®, Sudafed PE® and Sinutab® products distributed in the United States, the Caribbean and Brazil, after a review of past production records found instances where equipment cleaning procedures were insufficient or that cleaning was not adequately documented.

  • Food Safety Recall: MS Fish Corp (Brooklyn, NY) recalls Ossie’s Schmaltz Herring (12 oz plastic container; Code 2/0311) due to contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled item was distributed throughout New York State.
  • Food Safety Recall: Circle City Marketing and Distributing, d.b.a. Candy Dynamics (Indianapolis, IN) recalls all lots and flavors of Toxic Waste® brand Nuclear Sludge® Chew Bars, 0.7 oz/20g (Product of Pakistan) after the California Department of Public Health detects elevated levels of lead in the cherry flavor of the product.
  • FDA Food Safety Enforcement Action: At the request of FDA, the US Department of Justice has filed a complaint for permanent injunction against Mystical One LLC (Jamaica, NY) and its owners to prevent the company from processing and distributing juice and other products. Violations cited by FDA include the following brands and products: Fresh Carrot Juice, Magnum Food Drink, Pineapple Ginger Drink, Sorrel & Ginger, Sea Moss, and Peanut Punch.
  • Alcohol Wipes/Swabs Recall Update: Triad Group, Inc. advises that the following brands are affected by its recent recall in the USA and Canada of alcohol wipes and swabs: Best Choice, Care One, CVS, Discount Drug Mart, Equaline, Equate, Exchange Select, Exact, Good Neighbor, Good Sense, Healthcare, Healthy Generations, Kroger, Leader, Life Brand, Longs, Major, Meijer, Medicine Shoppe, Personelle, Publix, Premier Value, Quality Choice, Rite Aid, Reli-On, Remedy RX, Rexall, Safeway, Shoppers Drug, Sunmark, Up&Up, Top Care, Triad, Triad Sterile, Uniprix, Valu Plus, Western Family, and Walgreens.

Metro (Chénéville, QC) recalls a number of preserved foods packed in Mason-type glass jars (Packed on date up to and including 31 décembre 2010), because the label on the products does not contain the instruction “Garder réfrigéré” (Keep refrigerated).

  • Allergy Alert: Barry Callebaut USA LLC recalls Kroger Value Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips, 12 oz. (Best by dates: November 20, 2012, December 1, 2012, December 3, 2012 and December 4, 2012) because the product may contain undeclared milk protein. The recalled chocolate chips were sold in Kroger-owned stores, including Kroger, Dillon’s, Gerbes, Baker’s, Jay C, Hilander, Owen’s, Pay Less, Scott’s, Fred Meyer, Fry’s King Soopers, Smith’s, City Market, Foods Co., and Food 4 Less.
  • Food Recall: Price Chopper recalls Price Chopper 80% Ground Chuck (Sell by Jan 11) and Price Chopper 85% Ground Round (Jan 11), due to the possibility that a plastic utensil was ground into the beef. The recalled ground beef was sold at the Glen St. Price Chopper (Queensbury, NY) on Jan 11, between 1pm and 7:30 pm.
Canada

 

  • Alcohol Swab Alert: Health Canada advises Canadians that COPAXONE®, used in the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis, has been co-packaged in a kit produced by Teva with recalled alcohol prep pads manufactured by Triad. Teva is advising patients to continue their daily injection routine with Copaxone prefilled syringes, but to use alternative alcohol pads or bottled isopropyl alcohol (70%) with a cotton ball.

 

 

Europe
Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands
  • Food Safety Alert (China): China State Council’s Food Safety Commission has reported that a total of 96 people are in police custody, awaiting prosecution, or in prison for illegally using melamine-tainted milk powder. This disclosure comes on the heels of a further crackdown (in process since July 2010) on the use of tainted milk powder.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Food Safety Recall (New Zealand): Living Foods recalls Pams Fresh Express Baby Spinach, Pams Fresh Cos Mix Salads, and Living Foods Baby Spinach Salads (Best before 12/01/2011 up to and including 19/01/2011), because Listeria was detected in the product. The recalled spinach-based salads were available through New World, PaknSave, 4 Square, Gilmours and independent retail fruit and vegetable shops and wholesalers throughout New Zealand.
