United States

Food Safety Recall: Johnson’s Sausage Shoppe, Inc. (Rio, WI) recalls several varieties of North Oak, Johnson’s Sausage Shoppe Inc., and Twisted Oak Farms Beef Jerky (Wisconsin legend with the number 293 on the label or the package) because the jerky was not properly inspected prior to sale. The products were sold at retail stores (quarter-pound packages) and through distributors (no pre-printed weight) on or before January 5, 2017).

Food Safety Recall: Following the closure by the Oregon Department of Agriculture of the commercial crab fishery from the north jetty of Coos Bay to Heceta Head, north of Florence, due to elevated levels of domoic acid in crab viscera, Pacific Seafood and Hallmark Fisheries have recalled Whole, wild-caught, cooked Dungeness Crab. Consumers who purchased this product from Fred Meyer stores (February 3rd – 4th), QFC stores (February 1st – 3rd) or Haggen Northwest Fresh stores in Washington, Oregon and California (February 1st – 3rd) should discard the product or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Canada

Allergy Alert: Bramic Sales Inc. recalls Chiffon brand Margarine (227g; UPC 7 52046 32111 2; all lot codes where milk is not declared) due to undeclared milk. The product was distributed to retailers in Alberta and Ontario.

Allergy Alert: Castle Cheese (West) Inc. recalls Garden Choice brand Cheeses due to undeclared wheat. The recalled products were distributed to hotels, restaurants and institutions in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec. Please refer to the notice for a detailed list of products.

Safety Recall: National Smokeless Tobacco Co. recalls certain NSTC Copenhagen and Skoal products after receiving complaints from US consumers of metal objects, including sharp metal objects, found in select cans. The recalled products were sold in Canada by Costco Wholesale. Please refer to the recall notice for a detailed list of affected products.

Europe

Food Safety Recall Update (Ireland): Avoca updates its recall notice for Avoca Hummus (264g) and Avoca Colcannon (550g) to correct the Hummus Use by date to 09.02.17. The recall was initiated due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

  • Allergy Alert: Lifestyle Evolution Inc. (Pittsburgh, PA) recalls NuGO FREE, NuGO Dark and NuGO Slim Non Dairy bars made before October 2012 because of the potential for undeclared milk.
  • Allergy Alert: Heartland Gourmet, LLC (Lincoln, NE) recalls Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix (Item #2017), Gluten Free Double Chocolate Cookie Mix (Item #1530) and Gluten Free Pizza Crust Mix (Item #2024) due to undeclared milk.
  • Allergy Alert: Lisy Corporation (Miami, FL) recalls five Lisy brand seasoning blends, due to undeclared soy.
  • Food Safety Recall: Rich Products Corporation recalls Farm Rich® Mini Quesadillas, Farm Rich® Mini Pizza Slices, Farm Rich® Philly Cheese Steaks, Farm Rich® Mozzarella Bites, and Market Day® Mozzarella Bites due to possible contamination with E. coli O121.
  • Pet Food Safety Recall: Natura Pet Products expands its earlier dry pet food recall to include additional California Natural, EVO, Health Wise and Innova dry dog food and dry cat food products due to potential Salmonella contamination.

  • Food Safety Recall (UK): KP Snacks Ltd. recalls 4 variants of McCoy’s multipack crisps due to possible contamination with small pieces of plastic.

  • Allergy Alert: The Gift Shop at Buffalo Trace Distillery recalls Bourbon Flavored Caramel Sauce, Bourbon Flavored Fudge Sauce, Marinade for Meat, Barbeque Sauce and Hot Barbeque Sauce due to undeclared milk, soy, wheat, and/or anchovy.
  • Outbreak Alert: The Hawaii Department of Health is investigating nine cases of E. coli O157:H7 illness, including three adults and six children. Three of the children have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome. Eight of the victims are residents of Oahu; the ninth is a Canadian visitor to the state.

  • Allergy Alert: La Charcutière (Laval, QC) recalls la Pizza Romarin, due to undeclared milk protein.
  • Food Safety Recall: Boucherie Laurentienne ltée (Wentworth-Nord, QC) together with William J Walter and S. Bourassa retailers in various locations, recalls a number of sausage and other pork products, because the products were not manufactured in a manner that ensures microbiological safety.

Europe

  • Allergy Alert (Ireland): Gallagher’s Bakery warns that Gallagher’s Bakery Lo-GI Farmhouse Loaf contains undeclared milk powder and whey powder.
  • Food Safety Recall (Italy): Organic Oils Italia Srl (Perugia) recalls Olio di lino biologico “crudigno” / “Crudigno” Organic Linseed Oil due to a chemical hazard.
  • Medical Device Safety Recall (France): LifeScan recalls OneTouch Verio IQ and OneTouch Verio Pro blood glucose meters, because the meters produce erroneous readings at extremely elevated blood glucose levels.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Food Safety Alert (China): Channelnewsasia reports that the Chinese partner of Hero Group, a major Swiss baby formula manufacturer, has been accused of adulterating Hero’s production and a senior official has been detained. According to state media, the Xile Lier company had been mixing out-of-date formula with supplies imported under its partnership agreement with Hero.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Outbreak Alert (NSW, Australia): NSW Health is urging people who have had diarrhoea not to swim in pools until at least two weeks after they have fully recovered following an increase in cryptosporidiosis in NSW. There have been 484 cases of cryptosporidiosis reported to NSW Health to date this year.
