Taking a break

eFoodAlert is taking a winter break to recharge our batteries.

We’ll be back on February 9th, refreshed and ready to keep you informed of the latest developments in human and pet food safety issues.

One story we’ll be watching closely is the Purina situation. For some background, check out The Purina Affair podcast interview on The Petropolist.

  1. Don’t quite understand what the host expects Purina to do. They have released multiple statements regarding this. They have outlined the type of continuous, ongoing testing they do during production of their products and have found no anomalies. They issued a recall last year for another issue after only two dogs were found to be sick from one of their products and pinpointed the issue almost immediately. The host keeps complaining that they haven’t admitted there’s a problem, and haven’t at least said “we don’t know but we are looking into it….” They haven’t done either because they have not been presented with any evidence of a problem and all their testing has indicated all their products are within standards. If this was a salmonella, e coli type thing it would be readily apparent in vet’s office. If it was some type of toxicity it would be apparent in blood work. Other than people freaking out on FB, there is no factual indications that there is an issue with any Purina products. It’s almost like she just WANTS there to be a problem with the food.
