United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: After 407 confirmed illnesses in 44 states, 158 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths, the CDC has declared the Salmonella outbreak associated with Mexican cantaloupes to be at an end. According to the FDA, all of the implicated cantaloupes should now be past their useable shelf life.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: The CDC reports that 47 confirmed Salmonella illnesses in 22 states have been linked to consumption of charcuterie meats. Ten people have been hospitalized.

FOOD SAFETY ALERT UPDATE: FDA advises restaurants and food retailers not to serve or sell and to dispose of oysters and consumers not to eat oysters from Sociedad Acuicola GolPac (MX 06 SP) harvested from Bahia Salina, Sonora, Mexico on 12/18/2023 or 12/27/2023 because they may be contaminated with norovirus. This is an expansion of an earlier food safety advisory.

Public Health Alert: FSIS has issued a Public Health Alert for Busseto brand Charcuterie Sampler and Fratelli Beretta brand Antipasto Gran Beretta, sold at Costco and Sam’s Club, as these products have been linked to the Salmonella outbreak mentioned above. Although the products have been recalled, the FSIS is concerned that some product may still be in consumers’ refrigerators. Please refer to the FSIS alert for additional details.

Public Health Alert: FSIS issues a public health alert because Dim Sum Factory Inc., a Flushing, N.Y., establishment, produced and distributed raw, frozen pork dumpling products without the benefit of federal inspection. Please refer to the alert for details on the affected product.

Allergy Alert: Hans Kissle recalls MEXICAN STYLE QUINOA SALAD (7 oz; Use by 1/22/24; UPC 036217172018) due to undeclared egg and soy.

Allergy Alert: Whitley’s Peanut Factory recalls Deluxe Nut Mix (12 oz; Lot codes MFG 22823, MFG 25023, MFG 25823, MFG 29323, MFG 35623; UPC 703795000551) due to undeclared peanuts, milk, soy, wheat, and sesame. 

Allergy Alert: Rong Shing Trading NY Inc. recalls Lian Sheng Dried Tangerine Plum (4 oz; Expiration date 05/31/2023; UPC 6928580580214) due to undeclared sulphites.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Sweden): The Public Health Agency is investigating an outbreak of 68 cases of Cryptosporidium illness that began in December 2023. Although a specific source of the outbreak has not yet been determined, authorities suspect a fresh food.
