United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: FDA reports an increase in confirmed outbreak cases of Salmonella Newport illnesses from 8 to 10. Investigation into the source of the illnesses is ongoing.

Allergy Alert: David’s Cookies recalls Marketside Chocolate Chip Explosion Cake” (7-oz pkg; Lot BS23212) due to undeclared peanuts.

Food Safety Alert (New York State): New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets warns consumers that unpasteurized raw milk from Sunset View Creamer LLC may be contaminated with Campylobacter jejuni and should not be consumed. The producer is now prohibited from selling raw milk until subsequent sampling indicates that the product is free of the pathogen.

Food Safety Recall (Georgia): Rock House Creamery recalls Rock House Creamery whole milk (Best buy dates 9/10/2023, 9/17/2023, 9/20/2023, 9/24/2023, and 10/01/2023) and Rock House Creamery buttermilk (Best buy date 10/02/2023) due to incomplete pasteurization records. The problem was discovered during a routine inspection conducted by the Georgia Department of Agriculture.

Food Safety Recall: Kraft Heinz recalls Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product, individually wrapped (multiple package formats and Best when used by dates) due to defective packaging, making it possible that a thin strip of the individual film may remain on the slice after the wrapper has been removed.

Food Safety Recall: Safeway Fresh Foods recalls processed Butternut squash (Date code 09/19/2023; Product of USA) due to E. coli O45 contamination.

Allergy Alert: Marché D&T (Montréal, QC) recalls four prepared dishes due to undeclared wheat (gluten) and sesame. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Allergy/Food Safety Alert: Station PV1 (Montréal, QC) recalls Epis Lakay (Units sold up to 19 September 2023) due to undeclared allergens and absence of mandatory storage temperature instruction.

Food Safety Recall: James Produce recalls Super brand Enoki Mushroom (200g; No batch code; UPC 4 892742 010357) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Food Safety Alert—Infant Formula: CFIA is warning the public not to consume LittleOak brand Infant Formula made with Natural Goat Milk and LittleOak brand Follow-on Formula made with Natural Goat Milk. The company has not submitted the required pre-market submission, these products have not been evaluated to determine whether they meet Canadian food safety and nutritional standards and regulations. In addition, these products do not meet Canadian labelling and/or composition requirements.

Australia and New Zealand

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Australia): Queensland Health has identified M & J Chickens’ easy serve breast fillet shredded chicken (2 kg; Batch code A5497; Marked as chilled by 16/10/2023) as the probable cause of Listeria cases across Queensland (5), New South Wales (3) and Victoria (1).
