OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Norway): The Norwegian Institute of Public Health is investigating an outbreak of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections in more than ten hospitals. The outbreak was discovered in November 2021 when three patients admitted to UNN Tromsø for covid-19 became seriously ill and died of blood poisoning with identical bacterial strains. Pseudomonas aeruginosa thrives in water and humid environments. It rarely causes disease in healthy people, but can cause serious infection in intensive care patients and patients with weakened immune systems. The source of the Norwegian outbreak has not yet been found.

The illnesses reported in Ontario are related to travel to Alberta and British Columbia. The illnesses are linked to consumption of Alasko brand frozen whole kernel corn.
