OUTBREAK ALERT: The Connecticut Department of Public Health has received three reports since July 1, 2023, of Vibrio vulnificus infections linked to consumption of raw shellfish and/or exposure to salt or brackish water along Long Island Sound. All three patients were hospitalized, and one of them has died.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: FDA releases weekly status update of in-progress foodborne disease investigations. The agency reports a new outbreak of 28 confirmed Salmonella Litchfield cases. The source of this outbreak has not yet been identified.

Food Safety Recall: Behrmann Meat and Processing Inc. recalls approximately 87,382 pounds of various ready-to-eat (RTE) meat products due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Europe

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Italy): The MInistry of Health has been investigating multiple cases of Listeria monocytogenes reported from various regions of Italy. At least some of the cases appear linked to poultry sausages produced by Agricola Tre Valli – IT 04 M CE. The company has recalled all product manufactured prior to 12 September 2022.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (Sweden): Since July 2019, 47 people in Sweden have been reported sick with several different serotypes of Salmonella (S. Havana, S. Kintambo, S. Mbandaka, S. Orion, S. Senftenberg and S. Amsterdam) which have also been found in tahini (pasta on sesame seeds) and halva (confectionery made with tahini) from Syria. A large number of outbreaks have also been identified internationally, in Europe, North America and Oceania.
