Outbreak/Illness Investigations
BELGIUM: Food Safety News reports that a Salmonella Enteritidis egg outbreak has sickened 230 people in Belgium. The outbreak strain was found in a sample of dust taken from a Laerco BV chicken coop. The company announced a product recall earlier this month.
MOROCCO: Eighty-three people in Zagora Province developed symptoms of foodborne illness after participating in a funeral meal to mark the end of a mourning period. The suspected food vehicles were a couscous dish and red watermelon. The pathogen responsible for the illnesses has not been determined.

Public Health Alert: FSIS warns the public that beef kofta products served at The Kebab Shop restaurant locations may be contaminated with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) O157:H7. A recall was not requested because the products are no longer available for purchase. The beef kofta was produced as a raw ground beef product by Olympia Food Industries, Inc. dba Olympia Foods (Est. 18743) in Franklin Park, Illinois, on January 6, 2026, and supplied to The Kebab Shop restaurant locations in California, Texas, and Florida. The beef kofta is linked to a nine-case outbreak under investigation by the California Department of Public Health.
