Food Safety Alert (Update): FDA advises restaurants and retailers not to serve or sell and consumers not to eat certain oysters from Louisiana Harvest Area 3, due to potential Norovirus contamination. The implicated oysters were distributed to Alabama (AL), Arkansas (AR), Delaware (DE), Florida (FL), Georgia (GA), Kentucky (KY), Louisiana (LA), Maryland (MD), Mississippi (MS), North Carolina (NC), South Carolina (SC), Tennessee (TN), and Texas (TX). 

Food Safety Recall: AKT Trading Inc recalls CHOSHIYA brand MENMA AJITSUKE PREPARED BAMBOO SHOOTS (8.8oz; Expiry date 1/29/2025; UPC 4983673527332) due to Clostridium botulinum contamination.

Allergy Alert: Mondelez Canada Inc. recalls Christie brand Original Mini Ritz Crackers (200g; Best before 2025 JN 22, 2025 JN 23, 2025 JN 24; UPC 0 66721 02774 0) due to undeclared milk.

Food Safety Recall: Fromagerie au gré des champs inc. (Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC) recalls Fromage LE BRUANT / Cheese (All package sizes; All product sold since 16 December 2024) due to possible Staphylococcus aureus contamination.

Allergy Alert (UK-Northern Ireland): McGees recalls McGees Steak Burgers (420g; Batch codes 040225 and 060225; Use by 14 February 2025 and 16 February 2025, respectively) due to undeclared soy, sulphites, and wheat (gluten).

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

USA: FDA is investigating a new outbreak of 31 cases of Listeria monocytogenes illnesses linked to a not yet identified food product.

USA (Update): FDA continues its investigation of an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7, initially thought to be linked to an iceberg/romaine lettuce blend. The outbreak, which has grown to 88 cases, has been confirmed to be linked to romaine lettuce. Neither the FDA nor the CDC has released details on the source of the lettuce or the geographic scope of the outbreak.

Allergy Alert: Gardners Candies recalls Gardners Candies brand Cappuccino Meltaway® Bars (1.25 oz; Lot 082725; Expiration date 08/27/25) due to undeclared cashews.

Food Safety Alert: FDA advises restaurants and food retailers not to serve or sell, and consumers not to eat, certain oysters sold as Fanny Bay, Sunseeker, and Cloudy Bay oysters from lots # 39021 and # 39033 that were harvested on 11/27/2024 and 12/03/2024 from BC, Canada growing area BC 14-8, LF # 0278741 and lots # 39036 and # 39043 that were harvested on 12/03/2024 and 12/05/2024 from BC, Canada growing area 14-8 LF # 0335309, due to possible norovirus contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Washington State recalls Shellstock oysters (harvested from 12/2/2024 to 12/17/2024 by Ruco’s Shellfish (WA-1995-SS) from a small portion of Hammersley Inlet growing area) due to possible norovirus contamination.

Pet Food Safety Recall: Northwest Naturals recalls Northwest Naturals brand Feline Turkey Recipe raw frozen pet food (2-lb plastic bags; Best if used by 05/21/26 B10 and 06/23/2026 B1) due to contamination with highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus (bird flu virus). The contamination was discovered by the Oregon Department of Agriculture following a report of a cat death. The recalled products were distributed in AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, MD, MI, MN, PA, RI and WA in the United States, and British Columbia in Canada.

Allergy Alert: Sweet Fix Mtl recalls three varieties of Sweet Fix brand chocolate bars due to undeclared wheat, sesame seeds and milk. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Allergy Alert: 8 Cakes Bake Shoppe Ltd. recalls 8 Cakes brand Pistachio Knafeh (All codes where wheat is not properly declared on the label) due to undeclared wheat.

Allergy Alert: Uno Foods Inc. recalls Century brand Flaked Light Tuna Hot & Spicy Style (180g; Code MK1U G2562; Expiration date 13/SE/2025; UPC 7 74310 18460 5) due to undeclared gluten.

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

CANADA (Update): The Public Health Agency of Canada reports 18 confirmed cases of Listeria monocytogenes, 13 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths in an outbreak linked to consumption of plant-based refrigerated beverages. Cases have been reported in Alberta (1), Ontario (12), Québec (4) and Nova Scotia. Two-thirds of the outbreak victims are 50 years of age or older.

IRELAND: Food Safety Authority of Ireland and the National Health Protection Office report an outbreak of five cases of Salmonella within the last 12 months. The outbreak has been linked to consumption of duck eggs.

USA (Update): CDC reports 34 confirmed cases of Listeria monocytogenes, 33 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths in an outbreak linked to consumption of ready-to-eat deli meats, especially liverwurst. The outbreak strain was found in a sample of Boar’s Head Liverwurst. Cases have been reported in 13 states.

Allergy Alert: Van Leeuwen Ice Cream recalls Vegan Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll (14 oz; Lot 24V094; Best by 04/03/2026; UPC 850005872375) due to undeclared peanuts.

Food Safety Recall (Update): Boar’s Head Provisions Co., Inc. recalls approximately 7 million additional pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products after the outbreak strain of Listeria monocytogenes was identified in a sample of Boar’s Head Liverwurst. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Food Safety Recall: Colonna Brothers recalls Marcum Ground Cinnamon (1.5 oz; Best by 12/05/25 12 D8 and 12/05/25 12 D11) and Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon (2.5 oz; Best by 10/06/25 10A11) due to potential lead contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Lower Valley Processing recalls all non-intact, raw products (e.g., ground meat products) produced from animals slaughtered on June 5, 2024 due to possible E. coli O157:H7 contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Salami Mondial (Laval, QC) recalls CACCIATORE SALAMI DOUCE / Mild salami (Lot 232341) and CACCIATORE SALAMI FORTE / Spicy salami (Lot 232341) due to Staphylococcus aureus contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Cassis et Mélisse (Saint-Damien-de-Buckland, QC) recalls Fromage Tire-Lune cheese (All lots sold up to 10 July 2024) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
