Outbreak/Illness Investigations

CANADA (Update): The Public Health Agency of Canada reports 18 confirmed cases of Listeria monocytogenes, 13 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths in an outbreak linked to consumption of plant-based refrigerated beverages. Cases have been reported in Alberta (1), Ontario (12), Québec (4) and Nova Scotia. Two-thirds of the outbreak victims are 50 years of age or older.

IRELAND: Food Safety Authority of Ireland and the National Health Protection Office report an outbreak of five cases of Salmonella within the last 12 months. The outbreak has been linked to consumption of duck eggs.

USA (Update): CDC reports 34 confirmed cases of Listeria monocytogenes, 33 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths in an outbreak linked to consumption of ready-to-eat deli meats, especially liverwurst. The outbreak strain was found in a sample of Boar’s Head Liverwurst. Cases have been reported in 13 states.

Allergy Alert: Van Leeuwen Ice Cream recalls Vegan Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll (14 oz; Lot 24V094; Best by 04/03/2026; UPC 850005872375) due to undeclared peanuts.

Food Safety Recall (Update): Boar’s Head Provisions Co., Inc. recalls approximately 7 million additional pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products after the outbreak strain of Listeria monocytogenes was identified in a sample of Boar’s Head Liverwurst. Food Safety Recall: Colonna Brothers recalls Marcum Ground Cinnamon (1.5 oz; Best by 12/05/25 12 D8 and 12/05/25 12 D11) and Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon (2.5 oz; Best by 10/06/25 10A11) due to potential lead contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Lower Valley Processing recalls all non-intact, raw products (e.g., ground meat products) produced from animals slaughtered on June 5, 2024 due to possible E. coli O157:H7 contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Salami Mondial (Laval, QC) recalls CACCIATORE SALAMI DOUCE / Mild salami (Lot 232341) and CACCIATORE SALAMI FORTE / Spicy salami (Lot 232341) due to Staphylococcus aureus contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Cassis et Mélisse (Saint-Damien-de-Buckland, QC) recalls Fromage Tire-Lune cheese (All lots sold up to 10 July 2024) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Food Safety Recall (Ireland): Slaney Farm recalls Slaney Farm Fresh Duck Eggs (All pack sizes; All best before dates up to and including 21/08/2024) due to Salmonella contamination.

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

USA (Update): FDA and CDC are now aware of 74 illnesses in 28 states linked to consumption of Diamond Shruumz-Brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, & Gummies. Sixty-two (62) of the 74 victims sought medical treatment, and 38 were hospitalized. A second death has been reported.

USA (Update): FDA is investigating 31 confirmed cases of Salmonella Irumu in an outbreak that has not yet been linked to a specific food source. The total number of confirmed cases has increased from 29, reported one week ago.

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

Denmark: The Statens Serum Institut continues to track an outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium (sequence type 19) illnesses linked to consumption of minced beef. The outbreak has affected 64 individuals since March 2024.

USA: FDA and CDC report an increase in Salmonella Africana illnesses associated epidemiologically with consumption of whole cucumbers. Twenty-eight states and the District of Columbia have now reported a total of 196 confirmed outbreak cases; 68 of the outbreak victims have been hospitalized.

USA: FDA and CDC continue to investigate a cluster of 12 illnesses associated with consumption of Diamond Shruumz Brand Chocolate Bars, Cones & Gummies. Victims have reported a variety of severe symptoms including seizures, central nervous system depression (loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness), agitation, abnormal heart rates, hyper/hypotension, nausea, and vomiting.

Allergy Alert: Bonneval Foods, LLC recalls BONNEVAL’S BBQ Pork Skins (1.7 oz; All lots) due to undeclared wheat and soy.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Midwest Foods, LLC that a December 11-13, 2023 inspection of the company’s ready-to-eat (RTE) food manufacturing facility revealed significant violations of the Acidified Foods regulation and Emergency Permit Control regulation.

Pet Treat Safety Recall: TDBBS, LLC. recalls 5,279 bags of Best brand and Barkworthies brand bully sticks due to foreign matter contamination (metal). Please refer to the Enforcement Report notice for a complete list of affected products.

Animal Feed Safety Recall: ADM Animal Nutrition recalls multiple animal feed products sold under the Grostrong, MoorMan’s, MaxLean, Roughage Buster, Pen Pals, Patriot, Goat Power, Juniorglo, Rack Plus, Seniorglo brand names due to elevated levels of magnesium, sodium, calcium, chloride and/or phosphorus in certain lots.
