Outbreak/Illness Investigations

UK: UK Health Security Agency reports a sharp increase in Cyclospora infections among travelers returning from travel to Mexico. Sixty-seven (67) cases have been reported in returning travellers in England (30 cases) Wales and (10 cases) Scotland (27 cases) between 30 April and 15 July 2026. Travel information is available for 52 out of the 67 cases; of these, 48 (92%) reported travel to Mexico, with one also reporting travel to the USA. One further case reported travel to the USA only, and one to Kenya. Among those who travelled to Mexico, cases reported staying at a range of different hotels in the Riviera Maya and Cancún regions and consuming a variety of food and drink as part of all-inclusive holiday packages.

USA (Cyclospora Update): Michigan reports 10,773 cases of Cyclospora as of July 31, 2026 of which 193 have been hospitalized (as of July 30, 2026). Cases in Ohio have risen to 4,013 cases in 80 counties, with 3,016 of those cases concentrated in the northwestern part of the state. Indiana reports 1,285 cases as of July 31, 2026.

USA (Illinois): The Illinois Department of Public Health reports at least eleven cases of Campylobacter infections likely linked to consumption of raw (unpasteurized) milk. The source of the contaminated milk was not identified in the state’s report.
