OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: CDC reports a pair of Salmonella outbreaks lnked to exposure to pet bearded dragons. Twenty-three cases have been reported from fifteen states as of October 12, 2022. Ten of the victims are children less than one year old. Eight of the outbreak victims have been hospitalized.

Allergy Alert: Da Cheng Vegetarian Food Inc. recalls Vegan Golden Nuggets (1 lb. and 6.6 lb. plastic packages; Expiration dates between 9/22/2023 and 01/11/2024) due to undeclared egg.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (Sweden): Public Health Agency continues to track an outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium infections that has sickened 84 people so far. Cases have been reported from 20 of the country’s 21 regions. The outbreak is thought to be caused by fresh food with a limited shelf life, but a specific source has not been identified as yet.

Food Safety Recall: Behrmann Meat and Processing Inc. recalls approximately 87,382 pounds of various ready-to-eat (RTE) meat products due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Europe

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Italy): The MInistry of Health has been investigating multiple cases of Listeria monocytogenes reported from various regions of Italy. At least some of the cases appear linked to poultry sausages produced by Agricola Tre Valli – IT 04 M CE. The company has recalled all product manufactured prior to 12 September 2022.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (Sweden): Since July 2019, 47 people in Sweden have been reported sick with several different serotypes of Salmonella (S. Havana, S. Kintambo, S. Mbandaka, S. Orion, S. Senftenberg and S. Amsterdam) which have also been found in tahini (pasta on sesame seeds) and halva (confectionery made with tahini) from Syria. A large number of outbreaks have also been identified internationally, in Europe, North America and Oceania.

Allergy Alert (Belgium): Pepsico BeLux BV recalls Lays Max Double Crunch Red Sweet Chilli Pepper (140g; Lot GBB 21B 187; Best before 22/10/2022) due to undeclared wheat (gluten).

Allergy Alert (Belgium): Tching de Luxe recalls Tching Advocaat Classic (370 ml; Sold from November 2021 to September 2022), Tching Advocaat Chocolat (370 ml; Sold from November 2021 to September 2022), and Advocaatbox (4 x 100 ml; Sold from March 2022 to September 2022) due to undeclared soy.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: The FDA, along with CDC and state and local partners, continues to investigate consumer complaints of gastrointestinal illness and abnormal liver function that may be attributable to eating Daily Harvest French Lentil & Leek Crumbles frozen product. The FDA has received 369 illness reports, including 125 hospitalizations. Reports have been submitted by consumers in 37 states. Daily Harvest recalled the implicated product on June 23, 2022.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: CDC reports 84 confirmed outbreak cases of E. coli O157:H7, including 38 hospitalizations, in four states. Although a source has not been confirmed, the agency advises that many sick people reported eating sandwiches with romaine lettuce at Wendy’s restaurants in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania before getting sick. The FDA has initiated an on-site inspection of an unspecified location in connection with this outbreak investigation.

Food Safety Recall: D. F. Stauffer Biscuit Co., Inc. recalls Market Pantry White Fudge Animal Cookies (44 oz; Lot #Y052722; Time stamp from 15:00 to 23:00; Best by 21FEB2023; UPC 085239817698) due to possible foreign matter contamination (metal). The recalled product was distributed to Target stores nationwide.

Food Safety Recall: Pizza John’s recalls approximately 156,498 pounds of pepperoni pizza products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: The Public Health Agency of Canada reports an increase in the number of non-travel related Cyclospora infections to 300 outbreak cases in five provinces: Alberta (1), British Columbia (3), Newfoundland and Labrador (3), Ontario (244), and Quebec (49). The source of this outbreak has not been identified.

Allergy Alert: Chuang’s Company Ltd. recalls Delizia brand Vegetarian Ham (500g; Batch codes 82500, 83140, 90121, 91381, 92081; UPC 8 16432 00529 8) due to undeclared wheat and gluten. The recalled product was sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Ontario.

Allergy Alert: Mrakovic Fine Foods Inc. recalls Mrakovic Fine Foods brand Natural Chicken Burger (678g; All codes where egg is not declared on the label; UPC 8 14945 00062 5) due to undeclared egg.
