United States

OUTBREAK ALERT (Update): FDA, CDC, and state and local partners investigated a multistate outbreak of foodborne illnesses associated with the consumption of raw oysters harvested in Estero El Cardon, Baja California Sur, Mexico between the dates of February 12, 2019 and April 9, 2019. As of June 21, 2019 the CDC has announced that this outbreak appears to be over. FDA has concluded that all potentially contaminated product has been recalled and the growing area of Estero El Cardon, Baja California Sur, Mexico was reopened on June 13, 2019.

OUTBREAK ALERT (Update): Several products from Brand Castle, LLC containing flour milled by ADM Milling Co. have been added to the list of recalled items potentially associated with this outbreak of E. coli O26 infections. Seventeen people have been infected with the outbreak strain to date, with three requiring hospitalization.

Food Safety Recall: Alma Pak recalls Great Value Frozen Blackberries (16 oz; Lots AP1555, AP1640, AP1655; Expiry dates 1/25/2021, 3/07/2021, 4/08/2021) and Tipton Grove Frozen Mixed Berries (12 oz; Lot AP 1700; Expiry dates 4/22/2021, 4/23/2021, 4/24/2021) due to Norovirus contamination. The frozen blackberries were imported from Chile.

Food Safety Recall: Brand Castle, LLC in conjunction with ADM Milling Co. recalls 25 oz and 32 oz glass jars of cookie and brownie mix due to potential shigatoxin-producing E. coli contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

OUTBREAK ALERT/FOOD SAFETY RECALL: CDC reports six confirmed cases of Salmonella Schwarzengrund infections linked to Butterball brand Ground Turkey. Illnesses have been reported in Wisconsin (4 residents of an assisted living facility), Minnesota (1) and North Carolina (1). The outbreak strain was recovered from intact packages of Butterball raw, ground turkey found at the Wisconsin assisted living facility. Allergy Alert: Surtidoras Bakery Inc. recalls Marble Muffin (sell by dates between 3/18/19 and 3/26/19), Banana Muffin (sell by dates between 3/19/19 and 3/26/19), and Blueberry Muffin (sell by dates between 3/18/19 and 3/26/19) due to undeclared milk.

Food Safety Recall: Procesadora La Hacienda, Inc. recalls Productos La Hacienda ready-to-eat corned beef products (10-lb. boxes containing two 5-lb. packages; Lot #022819; Expiration date 042919) due to foreign matter (pieces of metal) contamination. The recalled product was shipped to institutions in Puerto Rico.

Food Safety Alert (Israel): The Ministry of Health warns the public against consuming products manufactured or sold by HaIdan HaOrgani Ltd., as the products were manufactured under unsanitary conditions and contain ingredients that the ministry is unfamiliar with. The company has been served with an injunction.

Food Safety Recall (Israel): Shufersal recalls Spaghetti Bolognese Shufersal (500g; Expiry 29.3.2019; Manufactured by C.E.P Mevo Horon Ltd.) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

United States

Outbreak Alert (Update): The New Mexico Department of Health reports that 226 confirmed and epidemiologically-linked cases of Shigella sonnei infection (shigellosis) have been identified in three southeastern counties of the state since May 2016. The cases, largely among preschool and school-aged children, occurred in Lea, Chaves, and Eddy counties. The Department of Health encourages parents to, where possible, not send their children to daycare or school when they are sick as it spreads shigellosis and other illnesses to other children and their families.

Outbreak Alert (Update): CDC reports that the outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 illnesses has expanded to 23 confirmed cases from 9 states. Twenty of the 23 victims are under the age of 18. Ten outbreak victims have been hospitalized, 7 of those have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). There have been no deaths. The outbreak strain of E. coli O157:H7 has been found in samples of I.M. Healthy brand SoyNut Butter collected from the homes of ill people in California, Oregon, and Washington, and in unopened containers of I.M. Healthy brand SoyNut Butter collected from retail locations in California. The company has recalled the affected products from both the U.S. and Canadian markets.

Outbreak Alert: The Pennsylvania Department of Health warns visitors and volunteers at the Heaven on Earth Farm animal rescue farm of an outbreak of Cryptosporidium infections associated with visits to the farm. Eleven people have fallen ill since February 14th; some of the victims were hospitalized, while others required out-patient treatment.

Allergy Alert: Riviana Foods Inc. recalls Ronzoni® Thin Spaghetti cartons (16-oz pkg; Manufacturing code JAN 20 19 K) that may contain an egg fettuccine product and may contain undeclared egg.

Food Safety Recall: H & B Packing Co., Inc. recalls 79,461 pounds of boneless beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O103. Please refer to the recall notice for a detailed list of affected products. Some of the recalled product was available at Target and select Walmart stores.

Food Safety Recall: J & Y Dasung, Inc., (d.b.a. Som See Neh) recalls 78,335 pounds of frozen pork dumpling products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection. Please refer to the recall notice for product details.

Pet Food Safety Recall: EuroCan Manufacturing recalls Barnsdale Farms®, Barnsdale Farms®-Select, Houndstooth® and Mac’s Choice® brands Pig Ears (individually shrink-wrapped, 6-pack, 12-pack and 25-pack bags; Lot #84) after routine testing detected Salmonella in a sample of the product. Distribution of the product has been suspended pending the outcome of an investigation by the company and FDA. No illnesses have been reported at this time. Mac’s Choice Pig Ear 3 Pack and Snooter’s Pig Ear Value Pack (12 pack) were available at Wegmans stores.
