Europe

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (NORWAY): An outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis affecting 22 people (10 hospitalized) has been traced by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (NFSA) to a batch of contaminated beef imported from Germany. Separately, the NFSA has found Salmonella Typhimurium in a batch of pork from the same German company. No illnesses were associated with the contaminated pork.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA, CDC and the Southern Nevada Health District are investigating an outbreak of five cases of non-viral hepatitis in infants and children, and five additional instances of less severe illnesses. The five cases occurred in November 2020 and appear to be linked to ingestion of Real Water brand Alkaline Water. FDA is advising the public to not drink, cook with, sell, or serve “Real Water” alkaline water.

Pet Food Safety Recall Update: Bravo Packing, Inc. expands its previously announced recall to include all pet food and bones in all package sizes due to the potential for Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recall was expanded after an inspection by FDA determined that conditions in the production plant could lead to cross-contamination. OUTBREAK ALERT (Norway): The Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) is investigating a Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak that has sickened at least 19 individuals. Three additional suspect cases are in the process of being confirmed. The NIPH has, in collaboration with the Norwegian Veterinary Institute, recovered the outbreak strain from a batch of beef imported from Germany. Infected individuals live in Viken (11), Oslo (3), Innlandet (2), Vestfold and Telemark (1), Agder (1), Rogaland (1), Vestland (1), Møre og Romsdal (1) and Nordland (1). Ten of the outbreak victims have been hospitalized.
