USA: FDA and CDC are investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis linked to consumption of shell eggs from Milo’s Poultry Farms, LLC of Bonduel, Wisconsin. A total of 65 people infected with the outbreak strainhave been reported from nine states. Twenty-four people have been hospitalized. There have been no deaths. Milo’s Poutry Farms is recalling all carton sizes, expiration dates, and egg types labeled with “Milo’s Poultry Farms,” all carton sizes and expiration dates of “Tony’s Fresh Market” brand eggs, and all cases and expiration dates of eggs for retail foodservice distribution. The recalled eggs were confirmed to have been distributed to retailers and foodservice distributors in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan, but may have been distributed further.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Slovenia): The National Institute of Public Health reports an outbreak of 138 cases of Salmonella infections (94 lab-confirmed and 44 probable) that took place November 12-26, 2022 was linked to the consumption of steak tartare. Sampling and analysis carried out as part of a series of inspections of the supplier’s operations recovered Salmonella isolates that were closely related to the outbreak strain.
OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (Sweden):The Public Health Agency reports 48 cases of Salmonella Enteritidis infections spread across 13 regions of Sweden in an outbreak that has been linked genetically to contaminated eggs from a single producer. The contaminated eggs, which were distributed under a number of different brand names, were recalled earlier in January.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: CDC reports thirty-one (31) confirmed Salmonella infections in ten states, with six people hospitalized. The illnesses have been linked to consumption of Citterio brand Premium Italian-Style Salame Sticks. The manufacturer recalled the product after California officials recovered the outbreak strain from two unopened packages.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: The Public Health Agency of Canada is reporting an outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis infections encompassing 46 lab-confirmed cases in British Columbia (18), Alberta (18), Saskatchewan (3), Manitoba (6) and Ontario (1). Individuals became sick between late September 2021 and mid-October 2021, and three people have been hospitalized. Many of the individuals who became sick reported eating fresh produce before their illness; however a source for the outbreak has not yet been determined.
