United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: CDC reports three cases of Listeria monocytogenes infections linked to consumption of pre-cooked chicken in Delaware and Texas. All three victims were hospitalized and there was one death. Tyson Foods recalled more than 8 million pounds of pre-cooked chicken after the outbreak strain was recovered from a sample of one of its products during routine USDA testing. Food Safety Recall: Tyson Foods Inc. recalls approximately 8,492,832 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Finland): One hundred or more children in Finland have been infected with Salmonella in an outbreak that appears to be associated with their attendance at various day care facilities. Authorities have ruled out local drinking water or swimming water as the source of the outbreak.
