CANADA (Update): The Public Health Agency of Canada reports 86 confirmed cases of Salmonella illness linked to consumption of Rea brand and Bona brand salamis in four provinces. Cases have been reported in Alberta (67), British Columbia (1), Manitoba (1), and Ontario (17).
USA (Update): CDC and FDA are investigating an outbreak of four cases of Salmonella Oranienburg infections in New Jersey (1) and Minnesota (3) linked to consumption of pistachio cream manufactured by Emek Dogal Saglik Urunleri Iklim Gida Insaat San Tic Ltd Sti in Turkey. One person has been hospitalized.
USA: FDA is investigating a new outbreak of 18 cases of Salmonella Oranienburg infections linked to a not-yet-identified product.

USA: FDA and CDC are investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Oranienburg illnesses associated with consumption of an imported shelf-stable nut butter cream. Four outbreak cases have been confirmed (3 in Minnesota and 1 in New Jersey), and one person has been hospitalized. The implicated product, Emek-brand Pistachio Cream with a use-by date of October 19, 2026 (TETT: 19/10/26 (DD/MM/YY)) and production code PNO: 241019, is manufactured by Emek Dogal Saglik Urunleri Iklim Gida Insaat San Tic Ltd Sti in Turkey and imported into the United States. No recall notice has been issued.

United States
OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION:CDC reports an outbreak consisting of 10 cases of E. coli O157:H7 infections in seven states. Two people have been hospitalized. Minnesota officials found E. coli O157:H7 in a package of leftover Josie’s Organics baby spinach with a “Best if Used By” date of October 23, 2021 collected from a sick person’s home. FDA is tracing back the supply of the baby spinach in the positive product sample. Whole Genome Sequencing is under way to determine whether the strain of E. coli O157:H7 found in the spinach sample is a match to the outbreak strain recovered from patients.
OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: CDC reports an additional 84 new cases of Salmonella Oranienburg infections, bringing the total in the onion-related outbreak to 892. One hundred eighty-three (183) people have been hospitalized, and cases have been reported in 38 states and Puerto Rico. The investigation is ongoing.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (SWEDEN): The Swedish Public Health Agency reports 41 cases of Salmonella infections linked to consumption of sesame-based products (tahini and halva) from Syria since July 2019. Several different outbreak strains have been recovered from patients and from a number of different batches of tahini and halwa from the producer Alburj. Consumers are urged to check their pantries for any of the products listed in the National Food Administration notice and to discard any potentially contaminated products or return them to the store.
